We enjoyed Sparks. It is a wonderful dining experience. The food amazing and the staff attentive.
Unbelievable limited steak menu. Appears the restaurant has sold out to the tourist industry. Very noisy. Significant change from my last visit a couple of years ago.
We waited for over an hour for our reservation and then were placed in the very back of the restaurant at a make shift table.
We had to wait 1.5 hours for our reservation. They were completely overwhelmed. Once we finally got a table, the wait staff was rude, unapologetic, and acted as though it mattered not if we were there or not. The food was average, at best. One seafood appetizer was not even fully cooked and had to be sent back. I’ve been to Sparks many times and it has always been very good and very reliable. Not any more. Beware of making a reservation as the host was simply taking anyone who walked in the door - using a pad and pencil to keep up with the names. We had a table of four @ 7:15 and was seated @ 8:45.
Food was great but we were ordered to our table unceremoniously and then ignored as our server disappeared and no one wanted to help as we were not in their section until Jesse helped us. V poor service when we were a table of 6 - we take lots of people out and this was really bad.
At least Jesse tried
Service is fantastic. Attentive and so pleasant. Atmosphere is historical and quaint.
We dined there for holiday office dinner. Host came to the president of my company and told us abruptly that we had to leave as they have overbooked. Our bill was close to $900.00. Totally disappointed in this experience. Went to speak to manager Sam... still haven't heard back.
Having reservations was meaningless, but having a drink at the bar provided a wonderful people watching experience. Once seated (45 minutes late) the balance of the evening was great. Best steak I've had since the Intercontinental Steakhouse in Hong Kong!
This NY at its best! Excellent food and service. Great NY patrons. The lobster tails and shrimp were amazing! Definitely go here.
Been there many times but this was spectacularly awful. Got there early, was seated but when my guests arrived they were told I had not arrived. They were then seated at a different table. Took 15 minutes to straighten out
Round of cocktails took forever to be served. I ordered the Tuna Steak rare but it was served well done. The side order vegetables never came
An all around bad experience
Fantastic. First time there and I can’t wait to go back. Filet was gigantic (and delicious).
I always love coming here for a relaxed dinner with fantastic steaks and sides. Skip the Caesar salad, which was very dry and not flavorful. Everything else is great. Everyone from the maître d' to the waiters treat you well. Sometimes the service can be spotty, they show up often, but then they may disappear. But all you have to do is ask another waiter for help and they'll come right to your table.
Our first visit to Sparks and we will definitely go back! Enjoyed everything we had to eat and a great bottle of wine. Our waiter, I wish we could remember his name, was very pleasant and attentive. He checked with us to see if we had theater tickets so they could accommodate our show time, which we did not have, so the table was ours for as long as we wished to stay. It was a very nice evening.
Sparks never disappoints. Great food, great service, incredible wine list, and perfect desserts. Cannot ask for a better experience.
Well run “old school”Restaurant. The shrimp scampi was very good and the Sirloin, which was “Prime” I believe was spectacular, esp for only $57 in Manhattan. Our waiter, Juan , was very good and pretty fun too once we got to talking with him a bit. I would return and ask for Juan next time too
I have been dining there for years and always go when in NYC. The service this time ok compared to years ago.
Still one of my favorite steakhouses in NYC From food to service you can’t beat Sparks.
in a city with so many Steak houses this one is a pass!
Been to a number of high end steakhouses in NYC and this was one of the two we visited on this trip. The ambiance is pretty standard for the city. Wine list is impressive. Outside of that I wasn't thrilled with anything. They have a handful of different steak options, but they're all filet or sirloin prepared in different ways. No strip, no ribeye, no prime rib, etc. Which is odd for a steakhouse. The steak itself was large and well prepared but wasn't anything special. The sides were fairly boring. I did enjoy the crab cocktail appetizer. But we dropped over $300 after tip for the two of us, and it just wasn't worth it. Lots of better options like Club A and Del Frisco that I would suggest instead.
The place needs a facelift
Fabulous steak in an authentic NY steakhouse setting.....a rare restaurant remaining!
On my bucket list and man, was I NOT disappointed! We felt like we were very important guests. Over the top service and a Filet that was a size of a Roast! Shrimp Cocktail was decadent!
Best Steak House I have ever graced my presence with. Lots of History there. NYC and Sparks Steak House.........Bucket List?
The food is outstanding, the environment is open and fun, yet cozy - the service - especially from "Lucky" makes the whole experience perfect.
What a disappointment....were originally going to Smith & Wollinsky but they were closed on this particular Monday night. I had heard about Sparks and being so close to the area we were in we figured we couldn’t go wrong.
WHAT A MISTAKE. Service was great....steak was NOT GOOD. My wife and I both ordered the Filet Mignon....how can you screw up a filet???....we are REGULARS at Capital Grille, The Parkside , Jimmy Hayes, Butcher Bar and Grill ( BBG) and EVERY TIME we have Filet Mignon it is cooked perfectly and our plates are clean of ANY meat........
The Sparks Filet was fatty, tough, and had white tendon fat in it ( both mine AND my wifes)....we are not the type to send something back and I NEVER have.... but the manager said I should have sent them back or had the sirloin....sorry...just never going back.
Again, great service, HORRIBLE meal......never again.
Truly expected more from this restaurant. Had reservations, still waited. Hosts were rude, waiter was nice. The steaks were OK but not the best ever, not even close. It was an OK experience but definitely not worth going back. Too many other choices in NYC.
Fast and efficient service - steak cooked to perfection
Service was great as were the appetizers. My steak was tough and not very flavorful. Quite disappointing for a place with such a reputation
Not made to feel special because we were on a budget. Waiter practically ignored us
Amazing time and time again!!! A must restaurant to visit when in New York. Get the lamb chops!!!
Appetizer very disappointing, crab had no taste, hash browns also not great but the sirloins were reasonably good. Waiters didn't appear to know much about the wines. Wines were over-priced. Definitely not going back
This place is awesome! What an incredible wine selection and scotch, too. But the food was fantastic! My wife and I split an appetizer of lump crabmeat and bay scallops. For dinner, I had the prime sirloin (med. rare), and my wife had the filet mignon (med rare) with a side of sauteed mushrooms. Both steaks were unbelievably tender and flavorful. Our dessert choice was fresh vanilla ice cream with raspberry liqueur.
We look forward to going back to Sparks!
The service is among the best and the food is great. I had the sliced steak, which was delicious. The seafood appetizers are very good too. Unbelievable wine list.
Very nice experience food was good service the same classic New York steakhouse
The steaks were amazing. Best steak tasted for a long time. Large meals so could have shared.
Outstanding meal. I’ve been to lots of steakhouses and this ranks up there with the best.
Food was okay but not the best I've ever had. Filet Mignon was large enough to share and wish the waiter had explained. Bread was just so so, nothing spectacular. Sauteed spinach was bland. Mashed Potatoes were off the chain.
It was very crowded and the crowd was primarily men and VERY loud. Acoustics were such that it was hard to have a conversation.
Service was TERRIBLE. Slow. Took forever to get a Diet Coke while folks all around us were being served their bar drinks. Coffee never came. Had to ask twice for Dessert Menu. Finally just asked for check and moved on.
Overall it was a good meal but not the best we've ever had.
Outstanding meal and superb service. I would highly recommend for business or pleasure
Amazing experience! Filet mignon was perfect! Ambience and service were wonderful.
I am a Steak Aficionado! I literally travel The world in search of the greatest steak available in any given city and whenever I am in NYC I go directly to Sparks. My favorite steak is a peppercorn crusted ribeye... When done properly it just makes this awesome crust that locks in the juices for a fantastic flavor and texture....
However, I always forget that sparks offers neither the ribeye nor the peppercorn Crust......But still manages to deliver on a fabulous crust and an amazing juicy flavorful perfectly cooked sirloin steak every time!! Which I rank as one of the top 5 steaks available worldwide.... and the best I’ve ever had in NYC
You’re gonna drop some money here… But it’s going to be well worth it....You will receive top notch service and a memorable experience guaranteed
I’ve never had the nerve to try the fillet as that is a steak I usually don’t like despite its tenderness, because it usually Lacks flavor in exchange...But I’m really tempted to try it at Sparks
anyway ....If you’ve been there than you know what I’m talking about… If you haven’t I highly suggest you give it a try!
Wonderful experience. Amazing filet. The servers were great.
