Sparks Steak House Ratings and Reviews
One of my favorite restaurants in the City. Great food and wine list. I love the Chilean sea bass, Strip, crab meat, mashed potatoes and creamed spinach. I usually have some of these options when I dine there.
My most recent trip in I ordered the strip and my associate went with the sea bass. Don’t forget to end the meal with a slice of cheesecake and a double espresso to tap off a perfect dining experience.
Excellent service and extremely fast.
The food was fabulous. We had Combination of Baked Clams & Shrimp Scampi as the appetizer and Prime Sirloin Steak as entrees. Both exceeded our expectation. I would definitely give a five-star rating for the food. But we waited to be seated for extra almost 40 minutes even with a reservation. Everybody was seated according to when they came to the restaurant no matter they have a reservation or not. Then why bother having a reservation? Minus one star for the long wait.
There was absolutely no point in booking a table with a reservation. Had to put my name in with everyone else who walked in the door. Waited over an hour in the bar for my name. Busy night because of valentine's day, but service was the worst out of the 10-12 times I've been there. I hope they improve the staff. The food, as always, was excellent.
I knew what to expect on Valentine Day and the "chaotic" Maitre D and male hostess at the door were rushing people in and out even with a confirmed reservation we got seated almost 45 min past our time. Mark was friendly but Abdouhl was simply cussing clients out. Limited choice of meats but we knew what to expect and went for the Sirloin at $54 pp with the caesar salad and hash brown sides. Temperature was perfect and service was spot on by Miguel our server. Bread roll was mediocre and the butter was still frozen. We did notice some waiters fighting over some issue by the bussing station and one got shoved in pretty hard and cursed in Spanish. This should not happen in the dining room irregardless of the reason behind it. Keep the drama private or behind the kitchen doors but at $200 per couple this is not a roadhouse. Now, the meat of my wife was too salty to her liking and the end darker but mine was very tender so it's a question of taste I reckon. The atmosphere was fun, plenty of 30's-40's year old celebrating VD and a few business people given that we are close to Grand Central. I still think that Keen is better. Right on par with Peter Lugger without the exorbitant bill at the end.
I live in Boston I'm in NY almost every year for work on Valentines Day.
For the last 4 years been going to Sparks for Valentines Day.
Usually been great.
This year however not so good.
40 minutes late for reservations
Food came out cold
Waiter never came back to check with us.
Complained when he gave me the bill
Nothing done but was also not looking for anything.
As usual the food and service was great but this is the first time I went to sparks and did not have steak because it was ash wed and Valentine's Day but I always get the 3.5 lobster it was amazing as usual try to get there a couple of times a year never disappointed 5 stars all around
The service was second to none, it was the best experience I’ve had a restaurant and we go to plenty of restaurants. Food was amazing but the service is like non I have ever experienced. I’m afraid I will be comparing every restaurant to Sparks and I will for sure be disappointed because no other restaurant will provide the same service or even come close to a superb experience.
Food and service are really exceptional. Salads were fresh and delicious with a light house vinaigrette. Our entrees were the sole and sliced steak with bordelaise sauce. The sole was perfectly cooked - moist and flavorful. The sliced steak was excellent - I'm not a big steak eater because too often I find that the steak just doesn't live up to expectations. This Sparks steak was superb. Our server was attentive and available. Highly recommend for special occasions. Pricey, but the food and service exceed expectations.
OUR greeting was not friendly at all. The server slid our butter plays across the table and never greeted us properly. The cost of the meal should of come with a lot more pleasant service. Also the men across from us were constantly using profanity and totally not enjoyable. Food was ok but NOT for the price.
we came from Sydney Australia to visit new York on a holiday ...i always wanted to dine at sparks ,,,the steaks were the ultimate in quality and presentation ,,cooked to perfection ,,we were delighted with the whole experience and hope to visit there again soon !!
Our server had a dreadful personality, making it harder to enjoy our meal. She was by no means pleasant, and it affected our enjoyment of our night out overall. I have been to Sparks before on two other occasions, and the service was excellent. However, for whatever reason on this night, we were stuck with this unprofessional server. I don't know if I will come back, simply because I don't feel like excellent service is guaranteed for the price we pay for a meal. The food is great, but I can find it elsewhere with better service.
All was good at steakhouse. Only problem was we got an email from OpenTable while on train en route to city and told that reservation was cancelled. Very upsetting...called restaurant and there was no problem. What happened?? We had been confirmed and reminded of upcoming reservation so quite surprised with cancellation email. Again, what happened?
