This is a local favorite of mine. I have been coming here since they opened several years ago and have never been disappointed. The food is terrific, the atmosphere is very nice and the service always professional yet friendly. The owners and staff never cease to make me and my guest(s) feel welcomed. Highly recommend!
Excellent service, good ambiance and food was first class.
This was my first time at Sparkill Steakhouse even though I've lived in the area my whole life. The restaurant was quiet with nice background music, and the decor was subtle & welcoming. The staff were attentive without hovering. The wine list was fairly extensive with a decent range of prices. My husband and I ordered the porterhouse for 2 with 2 sides, but we also each had an appetizer. This was MORE than enough food, so we probably could have done without the appetizers. The portion of steak could probably feed 3 - 4 average eaters comfortably. We will definitely return for another special occasion.
Food was good but had to wait an hour from when we ordered to when we actually were served and it was super loud!
Have eaten there many times. Have to say that this was the first time that I was disappointed in the service. Orders came out incorrect and overcooked. The wait for the main course was quite long and not all entrees were served together. Waiter did not handle appropriately and had a bit of an attitude.I will give it another chance as the food really is exceptional
Great food steak house atmosphere
A real gem. A solid steakhouse feel, with a fireplace in the main dining room, and great seating in the room with the bar (I'd gladly sit in this room again for a formal meal). The steak was absolutely amazingly good. Great appetizers. Great wine list. The service was top notch. Just a great meal.
Very disappointed this time. It was much better the first time we went. My wife's irdered the surf and turf. The steak was under cooked for what she ordered then it came back over cooked. The waiter even said it was his fault the first time. Didn't even offer to take it off the bill. She didn't eat the steak.
Service as a bit slow. The server was very seldom around the table. We had to flag others down for drink refills and other requests.
Very poor service. Steak was very good but had to send back because center was raw
The whole meal from appetizer to dessert was delicious.
Steak was done perfectly and was extremely tender. Will definitely go back.
Restaurant week brought us in. The specials for HVRW was perfect; we especially appreciated that they noticed my husband's arm was in a sling were very solicitous, and offered to cut his steak for him. Meal was delicious and just the right amount. We had the filet; accompanying salad was large; cheesecake made the perfect ending.
Ummmm, another disappointment. Looking for so much more from this restaurant. Overpriced and underwhelmed. Just average. BTW, We went there expecting some special pricing because they are part of Hudson Valley restaurant Week as mentioned on OpenTable, and it was never mentioned to us, never mentioned on the menu, never mentioned at the table. No signs, no nothing. It's as if the customer had to know about it and had to ask for it. Not doing that. They should be promoting it instead of hiding it.
Awesome place and service. The porterhouse for 2 was cooked to perfection.
We had been meaning to try it out for a while and finally used restaurant week as our impetus to go. We both had a great steak, and the service was lovely. We will definitely go back.
We were greeted at the door and brought to our table that we had reserved right away. We made reservations for 5:30 to avoid the crowds. Our waiter took our order (porterhouse for 4) with sides of creamed spinach and the combo of onion rings and cottage fries. We also ordered a nice bottle of wine. Be aware that everything is served ala carte. Our order was served within 15 minutes which surprise us. The steak was cooked to our request (medium rare) the spinach was kind of bland but with a little salt and it was ok. The combo onion rings and cottage fries were not as expected. The rings were crispy but very thin not thick. The cottage fries were potato chips in reality and very hard. We finished our meal with coffee and dessert. We had one order of the strudel that was really outstanding one order of nut pie which was served with ice cream and whipped cream and lastly a piece of chocolate cake. Our bill with a tip was just shy of 400.
In a nut shell it is not Peter Luger. It is rather expensive.
It is not a place we would go for a normal Saturday meal but could be a nice place to impress that date or special friend.
Dress is business casual although there was a couple that we saw in jeans.
Look out Peter Luger there is a now steakhouse outside of town and it’s outstanding. Excellent food accompanied by superb service.
Great food and great service
Great service. Very attentive
Celebrated my birthday with my family.
Everthing was fantastic,sevice ,food.Will
be coming back.!!!!
The food was excellent and the decor comfortable. Most notably for this evening was Sam our server and Carlo the owner who were both and absolute pleasure to talk with and truly made the night! Thanks to both , we'll be back!
Once again we had top notch food, cocktails and service. Highly recommend Carlos and his fine restaurant.
FIRST TIME..certainly not the last..everything was beyond expectations..Carlo was an extremely gracious host..Thanks for the experience
We went on a Friday night and it was not busy probably because it was Lent. The service was very good but again it was not crowded. All the food was excellent especially the porterhouse steak. It was pricey but I guess in line with other steak houses.
Extraordinary experience all around. Service was outstanding, team was very accommodating and attentive, and the food was on the mark. Top of the list in the NY area.
We’ve gone multiple times and the food and service are hit or miss. The steaks can be absolutely amazing or so-so. My last one was sub-par. This shouldn’t be the case at an establishment like this. The steak should be amazing every time. But it’s one of the best in the area, so we go back in hopes of the hit.
Sparkill Steakhouse never disappoints. The steaks are amazing. And the service is excellent. Everyone is extremely friendly and nice. Will be back again.
We came for Valentines Day dinner and it was our first time eating at the steak house, and it out of this world AMAZING! My fiancé and i cleaned our plates of every last crumb. From our appetizers to our dessert. I have nothing but good things to say about it. It was a little bit pricy but so worth every penny. Defiantly will be returning for Birthdays and Anniversaries.
I don’t understand how others left 5 stars review. The appetizers were only ok not more than that, the main dishes were not even good. Medium salmon arrived medium well. And last but not least the steak (it is a steakhouse after all) was chewy and dry, not a high quality meat whatsoever. Would never come back as this place is too expensive for what you get.
The time between appetizers and main course took almost an hour. I understand it was Valentines Day but it was just way too long. The food was great though.
Was there to celebrate my friend’s birthday. The staff was kind and the food was great.
We had an awesome meal here.
Service was perfect.
Looking forward to going back soon.
Best steak We ever had!
We had a wonderful Valentine's dinner on Wednesday night! We were warmly greeted when we arrived. Our waiter was very pleasant and very efficient. The food, as always, was superb! Our steaks were done to perfection. Every woman received a long-stemmed rose which added a special touch to the occasion.
Sparkill is certainly our go-to steakhouse! Give it a try!
Nice place. But if you go on a Saturday evening, bring ear plugs. Too bad :-(
Very disappointed...with nearly everything. Server mislead us on portion size of the salad, so we ordered 2 of them, along with other appetizers. Way too much. Then we waited a REALLY long time for the appies and when we asked about them, the server said we never ordered anything else but the salad. I asked for fresh black pepper and the kid hit only one plate at the table (not mine!) and walked away without offering the others. When the entrees came out it was clear that they were being warmed while we ate the appetizers. They practically threw the sides on our plate, like slop. We ordered a white wine for starters and red wine with the steak. While we were eating the salad he brought out the wine for the steak. The table next to us was so loud, we couldn't hear ourselves talk, but that's not the restaurant's fault (although the acoustics aren't great)- that just made the entire night a dud. Brought friends here for a special dinner and we were quite embarrassed. Now we remember that the last time wasn't so great either. Won't be back.
Sparkhill Steakhouse has a great team and a great menu. The food and atmosphere are excellent. Everyone on staff is very friendly and knowledgeable. Everyone in my group thoroughly enjoyed their meal....Worth travelling for if you are a distance away.
Steak undercooked regularly. Had to send back. I have to remember to order next temp up to get what I want. Service great.
Food as always superb. A few slips in the Service compared to last visit. Took away plates while one person was still eating, removed bread plates way too early, not enough time between courses. They did very well in celebrating the two birthdays we were there for
Overall I really like this restaurant. But every time I bring a group here someone’s steak comes out under cooked. And I’m not talking about just a bit. There was noticeable red, uncooked center to a beef filet that was ordered as medium. For a restaurant with the word STEAK in its name, this should never occur. I know, I know....send it back for more cooking. Some people are just not going to do this. They’ve heard the kitchen stories about what happens when food is returned and just aren’t willing to take that chance.
Went here on a Friday night whim. I heard it was the best steakhouse in Rockland so I had to surprise my carnivorous (and pregnant) wife by taking her here.
We started with the fried calamari on our waiter Sam's suggestion. He said they were very good which they were. Nice and crispy on the outside and smooth and silky inside. But he didn't tell us that it was going to be a family style portion! OMG, what a huge plate of calamari!
Our next course was the porterhouse for two. Accompanied with whipped potatoes and asparagus. The steak was brought to our table sizzling and smelling delicious. The waiter placed a few choice cuts of meat on our plates and I could not wait to try it. The first bite was the strip steak. Perfectly seasoned, perfectly cooked (MR) and perfectly melted in my mouth. As for the next bite, the filet, it provided my mouth with equal perfection. Let's just say that the porterhouse was amazing. On a side note the whipped potatoes were a little bland but with all that flavor in the steak who needs it. The asparagus was cooked perfectly as well. With nicely fried slices of garlic atop the stalks.
Our last course, dessert, was on par for the entire meal. We ordered the chocolate mouse cake with slog. If you don't know what slog is it is a beautiful thing. Light, white, not-too-sweet, whipped cream. The mouse and the slog paired very well together to say the least.
We will definitely be coming back. This might be my new favorite restaurant!
