Spain Restaurant & Toma Bar Ratings and Reviews
We were disappointed in the appearance of the restaurant upon arriving. The picture posted make it look more upscale than it is. The picture made it look as if there were linen tablecloths and napkins. The table covers were paper. The atmosphere very casual. The food was terrific. If I were in the neighborhood I would go again but I would not make a special trip.
Wonderful cuisine. My husband is from Madrid and he and I loved every dish. The scallops with manchego cheese and bechamel sauce were wonderful. Serrano delicious. The Malbec excellent and so was the Estrella beer. We felt as though we had visited Spain for a while. Would definitely return if in the area. Did not have dessert...too full with all the wonderful tapas.
We were quite disappointed with many of the foods we ordered,i.e.,paella, pulpo tapas. We have traveled throughout Spain several times and we were hoping this will bring Spain close to home. The music was great. The server was very nice and helpful. Not our favorite dining spot for the future.
This was a date night and decided to try something new. The ambiance was very nice, just a tad warm. There was a guitarist there that we really enjoyed, not overpowering at all! We had Paella Valencia and Delicias Del Mar, we enjoyed both. Overall enjoyed ourselves and would recommend to friends.
I can't speak much to the ambiance of the restaurant because the dinner I had was at 4 so the light outside was shining bright and it didn't have the romantic feel I was hoping for. I will say that the tables and chairs are a little short so it was a little odd but believe me the food was worth it! My girlfriend and I both had the Pescado Al Límon and I would definitely go back there again for the food alone! Our server was great and respectful too! I just wouldn't choose it for special occasions. Maybe it would be different from if I were to go at a better time when it's dark out? Then it would've had more of the atmosphere that I was looking for. All in all I would recommend this place for the food and service for sure!
Overall impression of the restaurant is positive. We were seated immediately at time of the reservation and greeted by our server within a few minutes of arrival The food was very good but service was alow. It took 3 requests for bread before we received (after hearing "it's on its way" several times). No more days we ordered 3 items off the Tapas menu all of which were delivered fairly quickly. However we ordered a fourth item and it took over 20 minutes before I finally cancel the order because we were late for another commitment. Again we were sold several time it's on its way, it's on its way. It was an item that should have taken about 3 minutes to prepare. BTW the front-of-house had 4 tables seated at the time and about 6 people at the bar. They were not weeded by any means so I don't know what the holdup was. After canceling the food arrived within minutes and they graciously took it off the bill and provided us with it for free to take home. Which I genuinely appreciate, however I would have preferred of enjoyed it there. Our overall dining experience it's almost 2 hours approximately 45 minutes of which was sent waiting on things. Another issue that there is a large sandwich board out front advertising happy hour drinks until 10 p.m. that night and saying that it only happened on Fourth Friday. Tobight was fourth Friday (June 23) so we were pleasantly surprised and ordered several of the drinks from that menu only to be told at the end of the night that they weren't eligible because we didn't have a "wristband". Turns out there was add event on the 4th Friday of every month in downtown Tampa whereby you can acquire a wristband and take advantage of certain drink specials in participating restaurants. I live in Tampa but have never heard of this promotion and there was no mention of it on the sandwich board. The proper thing to do in hospitality would have been to give us the advertised prices anyway since no mention was made of a qualifying criteria.
Loved the Spanish music last Saturday. Our waiter was awesome. We ordered several tapas including enchiladas, octopus, ceviche and croquettes. All were delicious. Sangria was refreshing and at happy hour prices it was a good value. We are going back for the flamenco show in June.
The restaurant stood empty when we walked in, but the waiter/bartender was busy on his phone and did not acknowledge us until my husband called out two times. After seating us, we ordered a good, reasonably priced bottle of wine only to be told they did not have an unopened bottle but recommended another bottle 2xs the cost. We ordered something else but felt a little played by the unavailability of the cheaper wine and the high priced recommendation. Food was fine and priced ok. Service was the flaw in our experience.
My wife and I dined at Spain on a Friday night in March. The decor is a little startling at first - white, white, white. But the table layout was great (not jammed together), and we like tapas, so we took a shot. Excellent meal all around. They offer traditional spanish tapas but with a kind of personal twist; for example, the Pulpo Gallego (octopus in olive oil and garlic) was tender served on a wooden board, rather than swimming in olive oil as many restaurants do. The paella was fantastic, and the potatas bravas were perfect. Added benefit - the most amazing flamenco guitarist we've ever heard. Definitely will repeat.
We were in town for a conference and picked this restaurant on a whim. It was awesome. They had live music (we went on a Saturday), and it wasn't overcrowded. We were a group of 3 ladies, and we ordered a bunch of tapas and wine and had a great time. The food here is amazing, and I would definitely recommend it (I'll be telling some of my local friends about it, too).
Really enjoyed the food and sangria. We shared several tapas and all good (goat cheese, scallops, squid, and paella) Service was excellent. Spotlessly clean. It was early because we were going to the Straz, and the only negative was a lack of ambiance. All white decor which might work well after dark with effective for the music and monthly flamenco. Would go back and try a late supper next time.
I am glad we came back. From the appetizers( octopus, chorizos al jerez, cheese and meats platter, caldo gallego), the main entrees (Beef tenderloin tips, Ropa vieja, Pescado al limón, Paella Valenciana) to the desserts(Chocolate con churros, Filloas Gallegas) they were all flavorful and nicely presented. We always choose between having appetizers or desserts because we get too full but we went all out.
Found this locals spot when we were in Tampa for the National Championship. All the locals were so friendly and came up to speak with us as with our all orange attire we clearly were visiting. Everything we tried was delicious. Something for everyone. Great selection of cocktails and wine.
I had lunch at this restaurant during my business trip to Tampa in September and was quite pleased with the food. I went back to Tampa for a cruise vacation with my family including my parents and my in-laws, and decided to try their dinner. It was Friday night so the music was very loud and there was a big party there probably celebrating the holiday, so it wasn't a place to quietly enjoy your meal. We were given a small table on the side for a party of 6, and we almost left because my family was skeptical that we would receive good service given such a busy night and we were all tired from traveling across the country from California/Arizona to Florida that day. However, we decided to give it a try since we liked the attitude of our waiter, who told us that he would "make it work" for us despite the small table. He was very good in taking and putting in our orders before that big party started, so we got our food very quickly. The food was great and everyone enjoyed our tapas meal. I must applaud our waiter for such a positive and pleasant attitude to make us want to stay despite a small table and an apparently noisy and busy night. The music was a little too loud for us so I wouldn't recommend this place on Friday if you would prefer a nice quiet dinner, but we were able to finish our meal and get back to our hotel to rest very quickly thanks to our efficient waiter. Thank you.
Service was extremely slow. We were trying to make a show at the performing arts center. We allowed 1.5 hours for dinner -- ample time. However, we had to ask for our food several times -- we ended up getting our food when we needed to leave! Had to gobble it down, rush to the show and still missed the first 20 minutes.....not happy at all about this
The Spain was recommended to us by a friend. We had a great meal and the service was excellent. The music was very enjoyable and not too loud. We went on a Friday night and had a reservation but I don't think that we needed one as there were open a few open tables. It made for a very nice and enjoyable date night.
