Overall, not a great experience. Our server didn’t have very much personality. The music was nice, but they added an entertainment charge to our bill without prior notice. When we inquired about the charge, he said it’s to pay for the band. We didn’t go there for the music, so why am I paying for it? They did take the charge off. The stuffed blue crab was delicious, but the scallops were drowned in white sauce, which ruined them for us. Overall, pretty disappointing. We won’t be back.
Our table was ready on time, good food, great wine section and wonderful service. They had live music. Great ambiance!
Jorge is a delightful, wonderful and attentive server!
Not what we expected. We thought we had booked a reasonably upscale tapas bar, a place to relax and enjoy a leisurely dinner. As soon as as we opened the door we knew this was not the place. Bare formica tables, cafeteria atmosphere, vibe of a cheap college deli. Clearly they made a great effort to dress up the place for the Open Table photo, and then went back to business as usual. Maybe the food is fabulous, and the service great, as other reviewers say, but we didn't stick around to find out. Dismayed that our date night choice was just a storefront of plastic chairs and tables.
Paella Valenciana is delicious, chorizo al jerez, calamari, croquetas are outstanding. Papas Bravas not very authentic.
We went to Tampa for the day and fell upon this treasure on a Thursday as we drove through the city centre and decided to give it a go. The food was authentic, the staff friendly and accommodating speaking both English & Spanish. Our Spanish guest was very impressed. Apparently they have a guitarist Fri & Sat so we will be back!
Wonderful variety of fresh food and wine, reasonably priced, and delightful staff. Decor is a touch bleak, but the rest of the place more than makes up for it.
We had a good time here despite the raucous poetry reading and musical event. Nice waiter who left us alone just the right amount. And excellent sangria!
Great place. Table was ready when we arrived. Sangria pitcher AWESOME deal!!!
Cheaply put together ambiance.
Don’t understand why it’s called Spain as food was very American.
I will seek much better food/dining experience next time pre-Straz.
Fabulous pre theater dinner! We had excellent service from our waiter, Alex. He went out of his way to make sure each dish was tailored to our individual tastes, and ensured that we were happy with the results when our food arrived. The crabcakes were excellent! The seafood dishes were superb. Next time, we will go for the live entertainment. We will definitely return!
Such a disappointing visit. I booked this restaurant 3 weeks in advance for a birthday dinner for a friend of mine. Upon arriving, we were seated between two columns to the right of the stage (our only view was of the guitar players unpacking and going up the stairs to the stage), and our waiter stopped and asked if we wanted a drink. Being we just sat down, we asked to give us a minute to look at the wine menu. TWENTY MINUTES later he came back so we could order our $40 bottle of Tempranillo. By then we also ordered 3 tapas (because we waited so long we knew what we wanted). One dish we ordered was a house special of imported octopus. We asked about spice level when ordering because my friend cannot eat spicy food. He assured us it was fine. When the octopus came, it was incredibly spicy (covered in what appeared to be paprika or cayenne). I tried it, as well as she, and it was way too spicy. When the waiter returned, we let him know it was too spicy, and his response was “This is the only dish I cannot comp on the menu.” We weren’t asking to be comped, but he offered no resolution. We asked him to take it away anyways and then ordered an additional tapa (crab cakes). The crab cakes came and were cold in the middle! Like they had been frozen or rerigerated and fully reheated. Then, he came over and offered a free flan for my friend’s birthday (which is very kind). She unfortunately has a dairy allergy, so we asked if they had an alternative. No alternative was allowed, so we kindly accepted anyways (because we can’t scoff at free). The most upsetting part was at the end, when we received the check. The octopus dish that was so spicy was ordered as “HOT” by our waiter on the ticket - and still he would not fix it. I have attached a picture of ticket as proof. We spent $100 for a dinner that was sub-par and for service that was dismal.
We were catching show later that night and needed somewhere for a family meal. 3 generations, so taste ranges from 12-75. The service was slow and hard to hear because they literally sat me 1ft from the stage with a speaker next to my ear. My water was never refilled, plates from each course were never taken away in between. My sons appetizer came with his meal. I had Sangria that barely grocery store quality. The yellow rice was dry and flavorless and my sons chicken and rice was almost inedible. He had the rice because the chicken was dry and chewy and the chorizo just weird. I had the seafood crepes. Every bite that had shell in it and the filling was grey and indistinguishable. The béchamel was heavy and flour not cooked out properly. If it wasn’t for the flour flavor this would have had no flavor at all. Very disappointed
Very authentic. I spend a lot of time in Marbella and Barcelona and this place is spot on for food. I’m going to be there a lot more often.
Very good tapas. Competent service. Good live music.
Nice new place.Live Music is nice on weekends.
Great venue for unique food and a fun atmosphere! A live performer was a lot of fun but it did get a little loud. Not impossible to hold a conversation though.
Small portions and average good. When we told the waiter we would not be staying for the Flaminco show, ge rushed us out if there. Not going back
Don't be fooled by Happy Hour specials. Drinks on happy hour are considerably smaller than the ones served most of the time. Service is below par from r the prices and number of diners. Overall a disappointing evening.
Food was very good! The ambiance was bright and not cozy for a date night.
We were disappointed in the appearance of the restaurant upon arriving. The picture posted make it look more upscale than it is. The picture made it look as if there were linen tablecloths and napkins. The table covers were paper. The atmosphere very casual. The food was terrific. If I were in the neighborhood I would go again but I would not make a special trip.
Wonderful cuisine. My husband is from Madrid and he and I loved every dish. The scallops with manchego cheese and bechamel sauce were wonderful. Serrano delicious. The Malbec excellent and so was the Estrella beer. We felt as though we had visited Spain for a while. Would definitely return if in the area. Did not have dessert...too full with all the wonderful tapas.
Deliciously prepared grilled shrimp, filete salteado, Blue crab and Paella Valenciana. Our server Dillon O'Donnell has great knowledge of the menu options, its preparation and wine pairing.
We were quite disappointed with many of the foods we ordered,i.e.,paella, pulpo tapas. We have traveled throughout Spain several times and we were hoping this will bring Spain close to home. The music was great. The server was very nice and helpful. Not our favorite dining spot for the future.
Great tapas and traditional Spanish food. Servers and staff are friendly and helpful.
We choose the restaurant by random and found a hidden gem. Great service from all employees!
This was a date night and decided to try something new. The ambiance was very nice, just a tad warm. There was a guitarist there that we really enjoyed, not overpowering at all! We had Paella Valencia and Delicias Del Mar, we enjoyed both. Overall enjoyed ourselves and would recommend to friends.
We enjoyed the mojitos, tapas and live music. Service was outstanding. We are coming back in a couple of weeks.
I can't speak much to the ambiance of the restaurant because the dinner I had was at 4 so the light outside was shining bright and it didn't have the romantic feel I was hoping for. I will say that the tables and chairs are a little short so it was a little odd but believe me the food was worth it! My girlfriend and I both had the Pescado Al Límon and I would definitely go back there again for the food alone! Our server was great and respectful too! I just wouldn't choose it for special occasions. Maybe it would be different from if I were to go at a better time when it's dark out? Then it would've had more of the atmosphere that I was looking for. All in all I would recommend this place for the food and service for sure!
Overall impression of the restaurant is positive. We were seated immediately at time of the reservation and greeted by our server within a few minutes of arrival The food was very good but service was alow. It took 3 requests for bread before we received (after hearing "it's on its way" several times). No more days we ordered 3 items off the Tapas menu all of which were delivered fairly quickly. However we ordered a fourth item and it took over 20 minutes before I finally cancel the order because we were late for another commitment. Again we were sold several time it's on its way, it's on its way. It was an item that should have taken about 3 minutes to prepare. BTW the front-of-house had 4 tables seated at the time and about 6 people at the bar. They were not weeded by any means so I don't know what the holdup was. After canceling the food arrived within minutes and they graciously took it off the bill and provided us with it for free to take home. Which I genuinely appreciate, however I would have preferred of enjoyed it there. Our overall dining experience it's almost 2 hours approximately 45 minutes of which was sent waiting on things. Another issue that there is a large sandwich board out front advertising happy hour drinks until 10 p.m. that night and saying that it only happened on Fourth Friday. Tobight was fourth Friday (June 23) so we were pleasantly surprised and ordered several of the drinks from that menu only to be told at the end of the night that they weren't eligible because we didn't have a "wristband". Turns out there was add event on the 4th Friday of every month in downtown Tampa whereby you can acquire a wristband and take advantage of certain drink specials in participating restaurants. I live in Tampa but have never heard of this promotion and there was no mention of it on the sandwich board. The proper thing to do in hospitality would have been to give us the advertised prices anyway since no mention was made of a qualifying criteria.
Loved the Spanish music last Saturday. Our waiter was awesome. We ordered several tapas including enchiladas, octopus, ceviche and croquettes. All were delicious. Sangria was refreshing and at happy hour prices it was a good value. We are going back for the flamenco show in June.
The restaurant stood empty when we walked in, but the waiter/bartender was busy on his phone and did not acknowledge us until my husband called out two times. After seating us, we ordered a good, reasonably priced bottle of wine only to be told they did not have an unopened bottle but recommended another bottle 2xs the cost. We ordered something else but felt a little played by the unavailability of the cheaper wine and the high priced recommendation. Food was fine and priced ok. Service was the flaw in our experience.
My wife and I dined at Spain on a Friday night in March. The decor is a little startling at first - white, white, white. But the table layout was great (not jammed together), and we like tapas, so we took a shot. Excellent meal all around. They offer traditional spanish tapas but with a kind of personal twist; for example, the Pulpo Gallego (octopus in olive oil and garlic) was tender served on a wooden board, rather than swimming in olive oil as many restaurants do. The paella was fantastic, and the potatas bravas were perfect. Added benefit - the most amazing flamenco guitarist we've ever heard. Definitely will repeat.
A date long overdue. Bringing back the memories of Spain 🇪🇸. A peaceful ambiance, attentive service, and varied choices of popular Spanish tapas and dishes paired with a sangria with a bang 💥 will definitely come back again. .
The food is excellent. Seafood tapas wonderful!
Only issue was that they did not have our confirmed reservation (via Open Table) when we arrived. Seated us immediately anyway, and service was great.
We opted out of a restaurant in the straz because of the reviews, found this wonderful little place ,food amazing, music amazing, service amazing! Loved loved loved it! Thanks for a memorable evening!
Great food, service, and value. What more can you say.
The Spanish Restaurant and Toma Bar was spectacular. The food was amazing and we hope to return soon to try something different.
Paella was not prepared properly. They just took flavored cooked rice, put it on a plate and added mussels, clams, peas, and scallops on top. they were not cooked together as prepared as it should in a Paella pan. Very disappointing.
