Excellent service from Jordon and the food is always so good.
As usual Sovana did not disappoint. We had a cozy table for 4, had some of the specials and the prix fixe menu, and enjoyed every bite. Service was a bit slow and disorganized, but we got everything we ordered, cooked well and delivered at the right temperature. It is a loud place for dinner, but the food is so good that it is worth it.
We had dinner on a Sunday evening, and although the restaurant was very busy, we were seated quickly. The food was wonderful, and our server was fantastic. We will be back often, and I would highly recommend this relaxed, casual and delicious restaurant to friends.
We recently rediscovered Sovana. The food is outstanding , great service, wonderful atmosphere. Customer service is a priority for them.
Everybody has ups and downs. Sovana is no different. The experience was generally quite good, as usual. The "Mezze" appetizer was really good. The entree, specifically the short rib, was just okay. We'll keep coming, but would suggest the chefs focus as much on flavor as on local ingredients.
I made reservations to celebrate my boyfriend's birthday. When we arrived, everything from the ambiance to the friendly faces was welcoming. Once we sat down, however, we were not greeted for some time. Once our server arrived, we ordered a drink, which also took an extended period of time. We were ready to order at that point, and were offered bread by our waiter who apologized for the delay again. We did not see her again until after our appetizer was at our table for awhile and she brought us bread at that point. Our entrees were delicious once they arrived, but we had to ask someone for the check after finishing our meals since we yet again could not find our server. We were planning to have dessert, but had spent well over 2 hours at a table with most of the duration spent looking around for our waitress. Sovana was recommended by a friend as a delicious and well-worth it experience, so I was disappointed to have spent such a special occasion at a place that had excellent food, but terrible service.
As always, Excellent in service, food & special attention!
We were impressed as soon as we entered. Instead of the hostess saying, “Did you make a reservation?”, which I find confrontational, she asked, “Did you have time to make a reservation?” Much better. We were seated in the room to the right of host/ess stand and towards the front of the building. Our waiter approached in a timely manner, introduced himself, took our drink order, and presented the specials. Our food selections were brought to us in a time that was comenserate with a relaxing experience. Food was exceptionally presented, at proper temperatures, and courses cleared by a few different staff members - a sign of a caring team. Dessert was suggested and we took advantage without disappointment. This was a wonderfully relaxing experience. And as an aside, bleu cheese olives for my martini!
Reasonable prices, good food and service. What's not to like
Overall very good. Their special for the day, Arctic char was excellent!!
The food here is always very good. The chef is creative, and the choices are unique. I often get to try new wines that I don't see at other restaurants.
Our server, Rob, was outstanding. We went ahead an ordered everything he recommended for dinner...man, he picked some outstanding dishes. Great service and Great food! I will definitely be back.
Everything was perfect!
Our waitress was not very friendly
Perfect dinner spot for a date night!
Excellent restaurant! We have never had a bad meal. Highly recommend!
Excellent drinks — especially the scotch flights!
Food made to order and accommodated our diet needs wonderfully!
We had a great time, and I highly recommend the polenta!!
When in the area, it is the place to go. Fresh food, really well prepared. Excellent ambiance. I will be back
I almost always order the express lunch. Yesterday’s offering included a chestnut pear soup which was absolutely delicious. The pulled chicken sandwich on a small brioche bun with slaw I found lukewarm and quite dry. This was the only disappointing aspect of the meal.
Sovana is one of our favorite date night spots! We get the charcuterie plate every time we go and look forward to dessert! I usually get one of their hand made pastas, but we have not been disappointed yet! We absolutely love it here!
Highly recommend the restaurant for it's interesting menu and flavors. Service was excellent and the food was very tasty.
Excellent food, the service is usually excellent as well. This past visit the service was mediocre. We had to ask for the specials and the dessert menu. Neither were offered. Usually we are given the details about the cheeses on the cheese board. This time it was just slapped in front of us with a comment to “Enjoy!” Not terrible service, just not up to par with what we normally receive.
The real problem with this restaurant is the management's decisioon to put too many tables too close together. this results in a feeling of being crowded and of particiupating unwillingly in everybody's conversations. They may have been trying for more of a "bistro" ambiance, but unlike bistros where I have been, mamny Americans do not talk as quietly when in close quarters as do many Europeans.
On this occasion, we both started with the Caesar Salad, which was well executred and in a portion size that is appropriate to be a substitute for an app plus a salad. My date had the salmon and pronounced it very good (it looked so) and I had the short ribs. Although the flavor was good and the accompanying vegetables were cooked well, the amount of remaining connective tissue in the meat suggests to me that the ideal low and (very) slow cooking short ribs need was hurried this time.
Our server (and by overhearing, many of the others) was knowledgeable about the food and was (were?) pleasant and charming. Although I would recommend sovana to others, there are three caveats:
1. Expect to feel crowded, even at the relatively early time of 6:30 PM.
2. If going in late winter, remember that "farm to table" means a lot of root vegetables (typically high in carbohydrates) or other starches.
3. You will need to either enhoy or suffer patiently through excruciating descriptions of all the parts of the dishes either in print on the menu or orally (for the specials), even down to the origin and possibly the color of the salt used (not really, buit it feels that way.)
We continue to hope that the food will improve, it has not over the past year or so.
We dine out frequently, and Sovana Bistro does not measure up to some of the restaurants in the area. For example: Antica is a much better choice for Italian in the area. For more exocitc dishies The house of William and Merry is a better choice in Hockessin DE.
for a great Filet, go to Sullivans in North Wilmington De on Rt 202
That's my opinion
Lovely meal, waiter was great. Food was excellent.
Have eaten at Sovana multiple times and are never disappointed. Our service was top notch. The roasted mushroom polenta appetizer was divine. Our cod and salmon were very good, but I actually preferred the sides surrounding the fish--green lentils, roasted butternut squash, krispy kale, etc. over the fish itself. My husband really enjoyed the liquid caramel butterscotch cake for dessert. Overall, Sovana is a great place to eat--lovely decor, fantastic service, and great /gourmet/seasonal menu selections from appetizers to dessert. The wine list is perfect.
The express lunch was a delicious way to introduce yourself to this cafe. The waiter had the bartender make me a cucumber mojito mocktail that was fabulous and not on the menu.
From start to finish, this was a pleasing experience, we were able to get a table on short notice, seated right away, given plenty of time to plan the meal, visit and then enjoy the starters.
Then, all of our dishes rocked it. Service was lovely and then the desserts were OMG!
Thanks for the awesome evening.
The server was awful the night we were there. She was very apathetic.
New favorite dish: Sovana Mezze! Hummus , tabouli, spinach kale feta hot goodness served with a pita puffed up like a roti. Amazing! Started with the mushroom bisque, one of the best around. The lamb arrabiata was delicious. Portions were generous so I have lovely leftovers. Finished with a salted caramel chocolate tart!
The food was excellent as always
I’m not sure if we got the chief on a bad night but the food was very average and the portion was so small, we thought it was an appetizer. The pasta had very little flavor and was over cooked.
I do have to say our server was great
We used to love this place, but I’m thinking it may be time to hold off for a while
Food was amazing! And they have onsite parking.
Always excellent. My favorite cheese plate anywhere.
The Bistro is our go to neighborhood place.
WE always enjoy Sovana - great food choices. I like that they change the menu too.
We are regulars at this restaurant and love the impeccable food and service - however - this time was awful planning on the restaurant’s part yet they held us responsible for their mismanagement. Although I had made a reservation at a high top and enjoyed that high top for the first hour of our dining experience. The restaurant thought it was completely acceptable to ask us to move (to the bar for clarity - not to another table - although we still had plated desserts and a full bottle of $100 champagne) since they had the same table booked at 7:00. Not to be a jerk - but not my problem. To anticipate a table will turnover in an hour on a Saturday night - poor planning. And to offer to comp me one round of drinks for a birthday celebration with a full bottle of champagne in front of us - poor form. You should have been making your amends with the people you overbooked - not the people already sitting there. ESPECIALLY WHEN THERE WAS AN IDENTICAL HIGHTOP VACANT DIRECTLY NEXT TO US., which still befuddles me. The management team was not this restaurant’s top brass - that’s for sure. As regulars - we know the how fantastic ....usually the management staff is....and this wasn’t it! Fred, our waiter, AWESOME!!!! Love you Fred!
As always the service (Michael this time - very attentive and personable as usual) was exceptional (including adding a friend to the table last minute), food spot on, ambience - great as always. Love the place.
Best restaurant in the Philly suburbs! We have always had an excellent meal and wonderful service.
Outstanding meal as always. The tuna tartare is a can't miss appetizer. Pizzas are outstanding. The entrees are great as well. You can also bring a bottle of wine with small corkage fee. The place gets a little loud, but the food and service are worth the noise inconvenience.
