Souvlaki GR Midtown
The best Greek spot in all of New York City! I love everything on the menu, everything is so freshly made, and the staff is amazing. Without a doubt go here!
We have been here many times and all I can say is that this restaurant is simply incredible, not only for its authentic and delicious Greek food, but also for its beautiful decor, reminiscent of the alley ways of Greek islands and most of all for its staff. From the beautiful and sweet hostess to the attentive and friendly waiters, Souvlaki GR is one of the best places to enjoy a memorable meal in nyc!! A+++++++
Food is great. Please remove one table to make it slightly less squished.
Highly recommend coming here, it really does feel like you are back in Greece! It is beautiful inside, everyone was extremely nice and the prices are great for Midtown Manhattan. The place itself is small and dark so just be advised that the seating is very tight and you will probably need glasses to read the menu.
Great greek food. Service is with a smile. Price is very reasonable.
Great food, great price, way too small and cramped and very noisy
Excellent food, good value, but very tight seating conditions making it uncomfortable.
Absolutely love this place! They make the best Greek food that I have had in the US so far! Really delicious! The halloumi is top notch! It’s absolutely tiny which makes it really quaint! Love the Mykonos themed decor! Can’t recommend enough if you like Greek!
Lamb chops by the kilo is a drawer. Crowded and a little too noisy. Young, old and families. Inside the place looks just like a taverna in Myknonos Greece.
Our second time here.
Food is good, location near City Center and Carnegie is perfect. But, noise levels are deafening and tables are so close that the people next to you appear to be a hair’s breadth away from sitting on your lap.
If this doesn’t bother you, go (and LOTS of people find this perfectly OK). Forewarned is forearmed.
Crowded and loud , but excellent location for Carnegie hall. Also very friendly receptionist, like her a lot! Food is ethnic and good.
Food is delicious. The space is a bit tight and can get loud but the service is good and the food is also very good!
Perfect for a dinner before a Carnegie concert — souvlaki is tasty and affordable! Not a place to bring a big group or any kind of extra bags, since every table is almost on top of the other. So worth it though!
The food is tasty! It was a great option before seeing a show at the Lincoln Center, an easy 10 - 15 min walk and less expensive than the fancy Midtown restaurant.
Authentic, tasty Greek cuisine. Generous portions. Servers are knowledgeable and friendly. Great alternative to the more expensive restaurants close to Carnegie Hall.
Perfect place for a 5:30 dinner reservation if you are going to a 7pm show at Carnegie Hall.
Good food, reasonable prices, good service.
Lively atmosphere, but you could still converse and hear each other.
Reminded my wife of I of our meals in Greece--Mythos beer, Greek salad, kabobs, ...
Best Octopus!! Yum!!
We were treated very very rudely. We showed up before 6, place was entirely empty but they refused to seat us without a reservation. We stepped outside and booked a table for two on the OpenTable app for 6:15 and walked back in 3 minutes later with our reservation status. The hostess at GR Souvlaki REFUSED to seat us!!! She said they had no tables and sent us away. She was so rude and claimed that there were no tables available when the place was empty and we now HAD a reservation. Ridiculous that this restaurant refused to serve us.
Horrible food. Busboy came over to our table literally every 2minutes to bud our table. I felt rushed which ruined further an already terrible dining experience. My sister and I had the tiniest souvlaki and I had a glass of wine. Bill with tip and tax was $35.00. Chairs extremely uncomfortable. If you have bad back avoid this restaurant like the plague.
We make a point to go to Souvlaki GR whenever we are in town. Authentic Greek food and ambiance makes it feel like a vacation.
The food was outstanding, we went for my dads birthday and really enjoyed ourselves. As a Greek person who eats greek food all the time, this meal really blew me away.
Delicious fresh food. Attentive & accommodating wait staff. Will definitely go again.
Food was very good. Like many places in New York.... tables are jammed together to the point of having to move them out of the way in order to use the washroom and to get in an out. Also anyone blowing their nose, coughing, sneezing or loud talkers will make your meal very off putting. The lady up front that sat us at or table was very nice and accommodating. I would recommend this restaurant but go later or sooner....
Love. Always friendly, fast, with delicious food.
The manager had an attitude the minute we walked in the door. As we are our food we watched her “discreetly” tell off her waitstaff on various occasions. Not cool!
We were looking for decent ethnic food and Greek/Mediterannean appealed to all. The food was good except that he greek salad had almost no dressing or flavor in the dressing- otherwise, a great value for all we ordered.
But...VERY tight seating- our first table we were crammed into a corner with the speaker playing really loud music over our heads- LITERALLY-
the hostess was lovely and had us wait for a quieter table and was really nice about doing so.
We tend to scour the city for good, affordable Greek restaurants, and this one is tops. It’s a bit crowded, but with a friendly vibe. We come for the moussaka, which is state of the art - and, not so incidentally, rather massive.
The food was fantastic!
Both food quality and service was impeccable! We informed our waitress immediately that we in a rush and the food was brought out quite quickly without tarnishing the quality. Quite an impressive food operation!
It's a nice live Greek restaurant, very busy, noisy, crowded, it doesn't have enough space but very friendly and authentic. Food is good, wine is not so much. Still it's a great place to come
Spent our HM in Greece last August, LOVE GREEK FOOD! This place is so GOOD! The owner is a doll! She is from Athens and her dad from Naxxos, very good quality in food. Tzatziki is amazing! Lamb Chops are too good to describe! Would recommend this place to anyone! Will definitely go back when in the city. Wish this gem the best luck! This puertorrican loves greek food and loves this place!
The place is very loud but the surface is very good. The food however it's only mediocre. Not sure what else is in this part of Manhattan but if you're prepared to go to other neighborhoods there's much better Greek food around, for example Periyali on 20th Street.
Not a real greek restaurant, french fries aren't typical from Greece . Food quality is poor.
The service wasn't nice.
Too expensive for what you get.
Great Food in a small but nice location. We had to wait around 15 minutes to be seated but food and atmosphere more than compensated this.
Waiter forgot our drinks. We have waited one hour for the food + the meat was burnt
Our favorite place for authentic Greek food. The waiters and owner, Victoria, made us feel like we were in Greece. Very friendly service, excellent food and wines, and an overall great experience. It can be noisy when it gets crowded, but it's always like being at a party. The mazes and grilled lamb chops are outstanding. έξοχος!
Walked into SGR and felt like I was back in Mykonos, the ambience was fantastic and the decor very authentic.
Our hostess was very friendly and courteous, our hostess reached out after we had ordered and offered to move us to a quieter table at the back as there was a noisy table next to us.
Service was very quick and we got our meals soon after ordering.
The only reason I gave service 4 stars is because after our meal we sat for about 40 minutes waiting for the dessert menu but nobody approached us. By this time the hostess dropped by with some Greek biscuits which we appreciated, we no longer wanted dessert by that time.
Overall it was a great dinner and we will definitely go back.
We waited 20 minutes, even though we had reservations. The tables are packed together, and the music is incredibly loud. The retains was watery. Very little meat on the souvlaki. The only thing going for this place is that it's across the street from Carnegie Hall.
The food is fantastic especially the grilled meats. However this is not a tranquil dining experience. We were there pre theater and it was a zoo. Extremely crowded and tables so close together I feared hitting waiter when lifting my arm to eat. Service was swift and efficient though.
We arrived, we where well served. It was very busy, but we had our food quickly, we didin’t had to wait long. The food was delicious and great! We want to let everyone know who wants to eat Greek then you have to come over here!
