SouthWest NY - Permanently Closed Ratings and Reviews
Hadn't been in years but thought I'd try it for an end-of-year work lunch for my team. Our server was nice but not very attentive. This was a mystery as the restaurant was empty. The guac was bland - lacking salt, spice, or any seasoning for that matter. Bad guac is a cardinal sin for a Mexican restaurant in NYC (especially for one as expensive as SouthWest) so a very disappointing way to start off the meal. In hindsight, I should have asked for my money back on that dish.
Fortunately the entrees were better. I had the pulled chicken tacos which were really delicious. My colleague had a shrimp fajita which he said was terrific and my other colleague had a salad which looked basic.
Aside from the guac, the food was good but at $75, the overall meal was an awful value, especially for lunch where you expect to eat for $15 person. I wouldn't go back on my own dime.
The food was excellent, and served piping hot! The staff was very good, but did bring the sweet potato fries with the appetizer after explicitly asking when it should be brought and being told to bring with the entrée. An entrée listed as being accompanied by rice came instead with faro, which has gluten. Changes like that should be disclosed. However, the positives outweighed negatives...octopus appetizer was delicious.
After seeing the Statue of Liberty, we booked a restaurant that was within walking distance of Battery Park. We had a salmon ceasar salad and the Thanksgiving dinner. Both were good, not amazing. The staff are friendly and the atmosphere is cozy. Overall, it was a nice experience.
We went for brunch and found the menu much better than the standard brunch menu, although it included usual brunch options. Service was very attentive without being too much, the drinks were excellent and the food very tasty. Brunch for three, including alcohol, tax and tip was close to $100 so not a cheap meal but the food was well above the ordinary.
i came here to drink during my lunch at work. sometimes you just need the liquid drug to get you through the day of having to do things you'd rather not do but still get paid for. but thats not why i came here. i came here to drink during my lunch at work with an ex-colleague and catch up.
we sat at the bar. so service was understandably quite good. we had a small plate to share and one drink apiece. working in some of the companies around that location doesn't mean you can afford to eat around that location.
but in other instances i've been there, the mussels are good to share. tacos are good but i feel are overpriced as i can usually eat about 6 of them and only get 2. i think i need to diet.
Pat, the MOD on several of our visits kept things moving smoothly and checked in on us several times. She does an excellent job of managing. Each visit we found the waitstaff to be excellent, friendly, accommodating, and very helpful.
We had four separate occasions and they were profoundly tasty. The little cast iron potato pots keep the mashed potatoes perfectly hot throughout the entire meal. Excellent adult beverage choices. We have had dozens of swirls over the years.
Liked everything I ate. Shared small plate, Agua Chile de Camarón, with my son...very tasty. Fish tacos were exactly what I was hoping for and hit the spot. My son had Salmon for the second time in his life and said it was definitely better than first time around...he finished whole serving...I tried a bite and agree it had nice flavors. Wait staff worked seamlessly. Overall it was a very nice dining experience.
Food was not very good in my humble opinion. We ordered guacamole with chips, fish tacos, steak tacos , chicken tacos and quesadilla....food came out so fast it may me wonder if food was just ready before hand. Tacos had a funny taste and quesadillas were also not great. Our waitress was not very pleasant and she got one of entrees wrong.
This is a great restaurant where the locals seem to go. Not overly crowded or loud so the meal was enjoyable. They did not rush you out which is unusual for a New York restaurant on a Saturday night. If you find yourself in Battery Park or near the 9/11 memorial, take a short walk to experience this place.
We work right across the street in the World Financial Building. We come here all the time for our team lunch for special occasions (birthdays and holidays) and we always love it. The staff is friendly and knowledgable. The food is delicous and its always good for our group of 6 people.
