The restaurant is great but Open Table website “sucks”. It isn’t intuitive and lacks information that helps the individual to make a simple reservation.
I recommend that you call the restaurant directly. It’s much more simple and very easy.
I recommended that Open Table procure a NEW website manager over a year ago but it’s obvious they’ve ignored my constructive criticism. That has landed on deaf ears at Open Table management.
This was not our first time at Southside Bistro and we always expect and have a wonderful meal. The food and presentation are outstanding.
We were quite disappointed though in the service. Once seated it was very slow and it took quite a while for anyone to approach us initially. For a table of 8 we ordered 3 appetizers which were very slow in coming. We also ordered a bottle of wine for 5 of our party. Very slow in coming and once the first glass was poured by our waiter he didn't come back to refill. I did that for him.
After emptying the first bottle we wanted to order a second. I finally had to flag him down to order it. The same thing happened with the second bottle, after the first fill, he did not return and I refilled for him. For two kind of expensive bottles of wine and for what was going to be a predictably large check, we expected a little more attentive service. We're not new to restaurants and we don't require or expect special attention, but we do know how things should go.
The same slow service applied really to the whole meal although the staff did not seem to be overwhelmingly busy and our waiter was not apparent on the floor serving others which we would have understood. He just was not there.
This occasion was a once in a lifetime event and we wanted it to be special. Our son achieved his MBA and we were very proud of him. The dinner was great and we will certainly return but this one didn't work out so well.
Lived in Anchorage for half a year and I'm sad to say it took me that long to visit this place. The appetizers were great, good drink menu, dinner was fantastic (pork schnitzel was delicious, and the dessert (banana napoleon?) was a nice and light finisher.
I would highly recommend this restaurant for really any occasion. It's not a suit and tie kind of establishment but you wouldn't look out of place wearing something nice here.
I have dined at Southside Bistro for over 14 years. There are many instances where I have overlooked issues. For instance, I do not sit on the bar side, thus service over there seems to be a bit lax at times. I specifically requested the dining side - one for less noise and comfort. Yet I was told if I wanted to be seated I could go to the bar side. I reminded the hostess I have a reservation in hand.
Last evening was disappointing to say the least arrived fashionable on time. This was a treat to a friend whom I wanted to bless and wish them a belated birthday. After waiting 30 minutes, I inquire and am told that my seat was still being occupied. I say there are several tables vacant. "Response - oh those are for others, they will be here any minute and they will be here in 4 minute. 10 minutes more go by. Customer after customer, checked in and were seated.
It took the owner who was came out and stood for 10 minutes or more at the end of the grill area to intervene.
Basically the message these two young ladies representing your business feel that customers obviously are not necessary to sustain a business.
Celebrating our daughter -in-law’s Birthday. Everyone enjoyed the service, the food and the special touch with desert. It was a leisurely evening. I appreciated that when I needed a different time than what was available on Open Table, a phone call request made this possible
The Bistro is our neighborhood restaurant. Whether for a dessert after an evening event or a meal out with new or old friends, we know that we'll receive first-class service and a creative, well-prepared meal. The wine list is impressive, so say the least, and the servers are all knowledgeable as well. This review was requested because of meal we enjoyed with brand-new friends, and for the four of us, the bill was low to moderate. Three of us selected one of the de jour choices and it was excellent: the in-house-produced sausage with chard and vegetable. The presentation and flavor was what we have come to expect.
We met with friends that we needed to do some catching up with so we wanted a restaurant that had good food where we could talk and hear one another, be comfortable and not feel rushed to leave. Southside Bistro fits the bill. The other restaurants in the area are too noisy.
Delicious amazing dining experience the whole family can enjoy. Very impressed with the consistency in great service provided. The food is very delicious and the menue is filled with multiple options to keep your taste buds satisfied. I will continue to visit frequently, while bringing my friends and family.
Filet mignon was the best I've had in Anchorage! It was cooked perfect. I usually have to sent it back but not this time. Ribeye was cooked to perfection as well. Bread was good but some butter or even flavored olive oil would have been good with it. Prices are reasonable.
We havent been to Southside in over a year but have always liked it. However, this time the menu was fresh and creative with many excellent new appetizers, salads & main dishes. Excellent seafood optionsand perfectly done.
One of our all around favorites tonight was one of the specuals, cajun grits with poached for example and fresh Alaskan spot shrimp. Amazing!

I'd never been here and was anxious to try it. I was underwhelmed. The waitress was good and attentive. The steak ordered medium was rare. Offer to put it back on the grill halfway through the meal was weak. The meat was over sauced. The duck was ok but also overseasoned.
