Southpark Seafood Ratings and Reviews
Many restaurants are claiming menu changes, South Park is evolving quite well. My wife enjoyed Lobster Tortelloni and my Fettucini with Wild Boar Ragu was one of the best made pasta dishes I've had for a long time. The kitchen is enjoying the opportunity to make their own pastas on a fresh basis, and I think they are well on their way.
Southpark is a great place for a casual, yet stylish downtown lunch or dinner. We chose it for date night after a show and it was perfect. We were seated at a booth by the front window by a very welcoming hostess. Our server Audra was very prompt, professional and charming. We ordered a Martini and asked for 15-minutes to drink before ordering. Our server checked back with us in 15-minutes and we ordered. I had the King Salmon that we delicious and my husband had the Tortelloni that he loved. Southpark was a wise choice for us to top off a perfect evening. We will return often.
I had the Portland Dining Month special which was outstanding. Each course had a lively and interesting mix of flavors. My steelhead was fresh as could be. My friend was unexpectedly picky that evening, but our server was never rattled, and the kitchen very kindly made him a pizza that was not even on the menu. Thanks for a great evening!
The food and service were absolutely exceptional. My party and I savored and enjoyed every last bite. I am a local hotel manager and I always recommend South Park to our guests as the best seafood spot in downtown Portland. You will never be disappointed when you dine here. Yummy!!!!
A new menu with a wide range of choices left me wanting to come back way before the next lecture series dinner precedes. The smoked fish appetizer plate came on a large wooden block; the portions were so generous that it served as my dinner. There were 4 different fish including sturgeon & cod circling around a mound of kale salad & a 2nd serving of cabbage salad. The staff readily agreed to bring me crackers instead of bread & the crackers were a perfect foil to the fish. My friend ordered the butternut squash dish over risotto and was happy with it. The wine selection was varied and we were able to taste a few before agreeing with the one our waitress recommended. Plates were artfully arranged and the meal was flavorful and satisfying.
The service was top notch. The food was very good. The only downside was my fish was a bit over cooked and that was after explaining to our waitress that I distinctly wanted it med rare on the rarer side. She assured me that it would end up raw if cooked that way so I agreed to the house interpretation of med rare. It was cooked through, no pink so my $30 dollar King Salmon was dry and not what I wanted. In this day and age of over elaborating the discriptive interpretation of the dish, they should tell it like it really is. Portions were on the small side.
Overall we enjoyed the meal and I realize from experience that one visit to an establishment usually doesn't present an adequate take on the true experience.
Southpark is one of our favorite restaurants in Portland. The location is great for movies, concerts, art museum, shopping, business outings. But most of all the food and service never disappoint. Even on this busy Valentine's night, everything was wonderful.
I usually don't like to go out for dinner on Valentine's Day b/c it's challenging to get both good food and service. However, we had tickets to a show at the Schnitzer and wanted to have a bite before hand. Food offerings were great and well executed for both the carnivore and herbivore, and our server was incredibly knowledgeable about the wines. A good time was had by all, and we made our show in time despite the full house. Well done!
Southpark has been around for a long time. I first started dining here in the late 90's and continue to come here regularly for fresh, local, seasonal fare that is well-prepared. They have a nice large dining room so you can come with a large party and it's usually a shorter wait for a table than a lot of the smaller restaurants around town. The food has always been very good and they have a classy wine bar attached to the end of the restaurant if you want to grab drinks before or after dinner. The location is great for catching a show or movie afterward as well.
First of all the food was just excellent. My husband ordered a whole fish and I sampled. It was the best, freshest fish I have eaten since ordering a whole fish in Capri, Italy. They were very accommodating to my food allergies and took it seriously, which I appreciate so much.
Server inquired about our time frame, did well with wine service (we take a bottle from our cellar). We both enjoyed a pasta dish, Lobster tortellini and Smoked Pork Ravioli. Both are made fresh.
I am disappointed the restaurant website has been hijacked, and they have not corrected the issue, so you probably will not be able to see a menu.
Southpark used to have a diverse menu, still keeping in mind that seafood is part of its title. Unfortunately, the last several times I've eaten there, pork seems to be the featured ingredient, even being integrated into foods that stand better alone. It is true that one can request the omission of the pork in most items, but it is an appetite turnoff to see it mentioned in so many menu items. Bring back pure foods and leave the pork as one option by itself in various forms. Overall, the menu now is one that leaves customers with a heaviness that can last for hours after leaving the restaurant. Has new management taken over in the past 6 months? Southpark is still an enjoyable destination but not as appetizing as it used to be.
It use to be Southpark was a great place to dine. Those were the days, not anymore. Quality of food hasnt suffered but portion size certainly has. It should always be a mix of quality and quantity but Southpark cant walk and chew gum at the same time. For $29 a piece of King Salmon should be filling not a appetizer. The fish was seared with skin on both sides making it difficult to eat and very soggy. Southpark even though has a great location eeds to shape up their menu a bit and have my offerings available especially side dishes.
The Southpark is an excellent place to dine prior to your theater engagement. Just let the staff know of time constraints and they are happy to oblige. Service is great and the menu and drink list is well stocked. Food portions are just right for normal folks. Unless you like big salads it's best to split a dinner salad with your date.
I've been enjoying Southpark's consistently great service, food and ambience since 2000. They have little staff turnover which means that South Park has happy employees. And the excellent service is reflective of that. I enjoy the fact that they have no television and that helps to attract customers that are interested in great food, wine and conversation. Their menu is unique and diverse and is always changing. The staff is very friendly and they make eye contact and say hello. This place is a gem!
Excelent Food And service, knowledgeable staff, made my celebration feel very nice.
Initially were Seated at table too Close To the door, was very drafty, but upon request quickly changed and accommodations were made.
Excellent seafood and best amatriciana pasta !
The Food And atmosphere Will bring us back again. Courtesy of staff , the food And the service were all very good . Excelent location and convenient proximity to movies nd our hotel The Nines
We looked for a special restaurant for Christmas Eve and were very pleased with Southpark. There was a nice selection of local organic foods that made choosing difficult. The food arrived quickly and was beautifully presented. The restaurant was pretty too, and would be nice any time of the year.
Southpark has become our destination of choice if we want a special occasion meal, whether it's lunch or dinner, party because in the years that we've been dining there, they have never disappointed us in even the tiniest detail. For less celebratory lunches, we love dashing into the wine bar for a quick lunch before a movie down the street.
I made reservations to eat here months ago when i bought tickets for a show at the Schnitz. The location is perfect for thst and they know it. We were seated at a table in the traffic path to the bar. I asked for a window table and was told they were for groups or people dining early without reservations even though a couple was sat in one as we were waiting. Dinner itself was fine. The food is good not great and our server was much more pleasant than the hostess. Lesson learned that it does not pay to plan ahead. There are other places to dine in that neighborhood.
They're trying way too hard to impress here and definitely missing the mark. The menu was strange. Very odd and ambitious combinations that really didn't appeal to anyone -like pancetta wrapped trout. The kitchen could do better on timing -my scallops came out cold. If they kept it simple, fresh and focused on preparing the main ingredients well I think this place could do very well. On the flip-side, they appeared to have a nice wine selection.
We love SouthPark when we have events downtown. The food is reliably good, fresh, seasonal, and local. The atmosphere is energetic and sophisticated. The wine list is good and they serve different size pours so you don't have to order more wine than you really want to drink. Fresh seafood is their specialty & we love their oysters. It is conveniently located near the Schnitzer Concert Hall, the Performing Arts Center, the old churches where some concerts are held, and the Art Museum. You can park early, have dinner, and walk to your event. We visited this week on our way to Portland Baroque Orchestra's performance of Handel's Messiah. Busy as they were this week, they forgot to dress my salad so I give them 4 stars instead of 5!
