Disappointing. They appear to be understaffed, yet they're taking more reservations than they can handle. Service was erratic. Drinks took forever, but our food was out in a flash, before we has a chance to relax and enjoy our drinks. Shrimp and grits were good, but the seafood ciopini was more like a soup course than a dinner entree. Luckily they offer pay-by-phone, otherwise we would still be waiting for our server to come for our card.
I have a feeling this was a vastly different place before the pandemic. It was enthusiastically recommended to me by my daughter, who lives nearby.
But the tales of various oyster varieties served proved to not be true. They had one type of oyster available. The Paella was burned and flavorless.
The server was kind and we liked him, but we absolutely felt like we had to fight for his attention. Long periods (as long as 25 minutes) passed in which we didn’t see him.
I think that this place is likely a quality victim of the pandemic, and I suggest waiting a good while to patronize them.
Great seafood and good service. Comfortable outside seating, conveniently located adjacent to The Arlington Club.
The food used to be better. But lately the quality isn’t there.
Lovely discovery right next to our hotel on a two day visit to Portland. Service was great, food excellent, short but interesting wine list (Oregon Tempranillo Rose a real treat with Oysters). Would definitely return on the next visit.
Delicious!!!! Food and pricing was great! Def my new spot
Oysters were perfect, So were the Octopus, crab sandwich and poke bowl.
Had reservations, waited 20 minutes. Table and seating was wet - from sanitizing I guess. Limited menu. A far cry from our pre Covid visits. Maybe it will come back to its former great experience but its not there now
Great spot for dinner. We had 6 people and was there for 3.5 hours and we were never rushed. Great cocktails and overall great food.
Oysters were outstanding!!!🦪
Next time, having my own bowl of clam chowder because it was loaded with clams and hard to share. 😅
Bringing my parents next time for sure!.
Favorite seafood restaurant. Fresh seafood, especially great oysters and knowledgeable, friendly wait staff.
We LOVE southpark. Consistent delicious with friendly, helpful, knowledgeable servers. Xox
Lovely place to go after visiting the Portland Art Museum. The food was very good and the value was good as well. The only hiccup is because of Covid they are not providing menus so you have to use your phone for the QR code to access the menu. 2 of the 3 folks in our party had trouble with this and our waiter was not empathetic or helpful to this issue. The overall message is if you are not tech savvy then don't come here. This could have been handled with a much better customer focus....
Great Paella, and the oysters were to die for. Excellent service, great attention to safety and delicious food!
There were a good number of options on the menu and the food was prepared to perfection. We really enjoyed the house made crackers on the cheeseboard. The service was prompt and the food came out in a timely manner. The portions were on the smaller side but no one left hungry. We would eat here again.
Food was cooked well but sooooooo bland!!
Cocktails were great. Lunch menu was very limited and the food was so-so.
Sadly I do not recommend the paella. No flavor and slightly overcooked fish. Crab cocktail should have sauce on the side as it was very hot (horseradish)
Dinner before event. Service was attentive and prompt. Fish and chips entree and shrimp and grits. Very good.
The service was great. The appetizers were really good (Brussel sprouts, octopus). The entrees were not good at all.
Fish and chips: fish overcooked and lacking flavor.
King Salmon: flavorless. It was as if the ingredients were just thrown together instead of sautéed to release flavor. I had to sip my glass of wine after every bite to get the taste out of my mouth. I didn't send it back because I was dining with my boyfriend and his mom. It was my first introduction to his mom.
Cioppino Seafood Stew: base lacked flavor.
Overall disappointing and a bit embarrassing as I picked the restaurant.
First time out dining in Portland since the pandemic and Southpark did a great job implementing the safety restrictions and still providing an enjoyable dining experience.
We arrived far too early for our reservation a table was found for us with minimal waiting. COVID-19 protocols were followed to the best of my knowledge.
The staff was courteous and friendly. The cocktails were good but unremarkable. The outdoor heaters finally began working near the end of our visit. Overall the experience was pleasant.
Acknowledging that we are just emerging from COVID and that restaurants are still trying to adjust to reopening and social distance rules - and suspect some of the service challenges could be chalked up to being short staffed. Oysters were fine, but the server couldn’t tell me where they came from. The octopus, was not tasty and was mushed into what looked like a piece of meatloaf. It came with an odd salad of broccolini with almonds red peppers and onions and was not tasty. We shared the Paella which was fine (not the best ever). The fish and shrimp were not fully cooked, but I was able to turn them once or twice in the hot pan to cook them just a bit more before eating.
I was grateful to have an open restaurant when most things were shut down, but think the food could have been a little better.
This place is not even the shadow of what it used to be before the pandemic. They need to work really hard to re-gain their glory.
The food was sparse — ordered a lunch salad and had a few pieces of lettuce and about 2 tablespoons of crab. The crab sandwich came out with just that on a plate— to be honest the two kids meals we ordered had a TON more food. I am not saying I need a ton of food on the plate, but this made you feel like you were getting ripped off. Have gone here many times over the years and sad to say, I will not be returning.
Had a wonderful experience, drinks are fantastic and seafood is incredibly fresh! Something for everyone!
Great food. Crummy hipster service.
This was a fine experience; I’d probably go back. The food was solidly good, but not great, and it was the same with the service: friendly, but not a ton of attention. The fries came out cold but were instantly replaced, and there are enough lower-priced things on the menu to balance off the pricier wines and high-end entrees. Overall: not bad.
Great food and service. I'm so glad they stayed open! King salmon was excellent. Cooked perfectly. Dungeness crab roll was also outstanding. Try the chocolate raspberry stack for dessert. It was the perfect combination of flavors!
Food as always was delish. Service was a bit slow but clearly due to staffing and it was packed. Our waiter was slammed but charming and helpful. Will hope to sit in his station next time.
Lindsey, the hostess was amazing! On a very busy Saturday, with basically no availability, Lindsey was able to get us a table almost an hour ahead of our actual reservation (which was booked last-minute). It was our first time out in over 1.5 years due to the pandemic. The service was wonderful! Steven was our server and made us feel very comfortable and well cared for.
We also really appreciate the digital menu and payment options to make it as contactless as possible.
Best restaurant in Portland! One of our all time favorite places.
Food was subpar yet quite expensive
Nice outdoor seating area even though the street is a little uneven. Everyone, customers and staff, were glad to be outdoors among fellow humans on a nice evening. The food is always good. The clam chowder and poke and shrimp & grits were excellent. And it's locally owned!
Very pleasant, great food & service
We’ve eaten at this restaurant many times and it’s never disappointed. The location makes it a great spot after a visit to the Portland Art Museum.
Another great meal at Southpark! Easily the best clam chowder in the city!
Awesome patio and excellent service! Our food was delicious and the wine list was well thought out and cost effective. Highly recommend.
they changed an item menu for me .....service great
Over priced for small portions
The fish and chips is literally only 2 pieces of fish and a whole bunch of fries to fill the plate and the shrimp cocktail is only 5 shrimps & the crab cocktail don’t even get me started bad presentation and small amount
