Food was excellent and the service was just right. Don't like waiters who hover around too much and Southpark was just perfect.
Came for Portland Dining Month (3 courses for $33). The hostess didn't even look up when we gave our name for reservations, didn't say "hello" or "follow me". Just grabbed menus and started walking to a table, a terrible first impression. Our server and busser were excellent however, very personable and attentive. The food was delicious as always and there were some good selections to choose from though the portions were not very big. The price came out to about the same as if you had gone for happy hour so we didn't feel like we were getting a special deal but we enjoyed our evening and what more could you want?
Food was excellent. Waiter was very helpful and attentive. I was especially impressed by the efficiency of the young woman clearing tables. She buzzed about, spiriting away empty plates nearly unnoticed.
Noise level was pretty high but it was happy conversation that helped keep the evening light.
Well, we’d booked through Open Table knowing we had a $25 reward. At the end, they knew nothing about using one of the rewards. Ding, -10 points there. It was our 26th anniversary and I indicated it in the reservation. No acknowledgement-ding, -10 pts. Seated by the bathroom with a ton of traffic and noise. Ding, -20 pts. Felt alone with little attention from the server and no desire or interest to get to know us. Ding, -15 pts. Ok, food was great with nice portions. Ding, +20 pts.. way too noisy overall & really slow service..ding -10..probably won’t return for awhile..
We went to Southpark for Portland Dining Month. We made reservations for 5:30 and were seated promptly. We ordered the the Finnegan, a deliciously sweet-tart cocktail with a sugared rim and my partner got the chocolate oyster stout. We didn't get the dining month menu when we were seated, so we asked the waiter for it. The minute we did, it was like a light dimmed in his eyes and from there, our service from him changed. It wasn't bad service but it definitely wasn't the same quality service the tables near us got. I had to ask for another cocktail and would have loved coffee with dessert but wasn't asked if I wanted anything with dessert. So, yeah, not stellar but acceptable service.
Anyway - on to the food. We ordered the clam chowder and brussel sprouts, the steak and steelhead in a light broth with hominy and kale, and "chocolate" and lemon cheesecake for dessert. We were offered complimentary foccacia and gobbled it down. The meal was pretty perfect. The clams in the chowder were plump and plentiful, the brussels were just so good. I kept trying to figure out what the dressing was so I could try to recreate it at home. The steelhead and steak were well seasoned and the desserts were quite tasty. I've never seen my partner scrape a plate like he did with the sorbet on his cheesecake.
We definitely plan to go back to Southpark. If we go during dining month, we'll just ask to be seated in a different section!
I enjoyed eating there but the food is overpriced. For that reason we won’t be returning.
Excellent food - veggies and fish. Warm atmosphere, good service, not too loud.
Dinner with friends during restaurant month took us to Southpark. We had timely and friendly service as always and choices for each course.
We added oysters, delicious Brussels sprouts and were not disappointed.
Great cocktails, wine and well paced dinner.
We love this restaurant and our friends (had never been) were impressed.
Overpriced. I should be able to get a nice piece of broiled fish for less than $40. Next time I'll go to Jake's. I thought I was going to a fish house but you have become an oyster bar.
My son took me there for my birthday and noted the birthday occasion on Opentable. I found online that they had a 20 percent off coupon for birthdays so I called the restaurant and they said they would note it next to my reservation since the online system wasn't working. I asked our waiter if we could use the 20 percent off of the Portland Dining Month and he said yes. A few minutes later a different waiter introduces themselves. At the end when the bill arrived, the new waitress said it didn't work for that. I pointed to the waiter who was our original waiter who told me it did and she said that was the manager and that he would never say that! He was definitely a waiter, not a manager! She said if she knew it was my birthday she would have at least put a candle in my dessert. A note on the reservation, Opentable note, birthday card on table and "she didn't know" it was my birthday.
Here for Dine Portland Month
The Portland dining month menu had lots of options, the appetizers were larger than the entree’s but it was a great experience overall !
This is currently the best seafood restaurant in Portland. They also have killer pasta and vegetable dishes!
We have eaten here for years. We love the manager Caitlyn and the way she runs the restaurant! Great happy hour too!
March Dining month was amazing. The clam chowder is incredible. And the beet and goat cheese ravioli is a new favorite! Highly recommend!
Great clam chowder and beer selection. Next time I will try the garlic aioli fries.
We had a great time and delicious food! Service was a little slow but friendly; we weren't in a rush anyway..
The dining month menu was executed beyond what we all expected.. The dessert - lemon cheesecake was out of this world!
Delicious, beautiful food served in a pleasant atmosphere. It was pretty loud due to all the hard surfaces but it was not a deal-breaker. We ate the Portland Spring 3 for $33. Great bargain!
one of the best deals in town for Portland dining month; fish is fresh, complementary bread is fragrantly soft, abundance in appetizers and desserts
Great food and service. Always way too loud for us. You need to invest in engineering to reduce noise level.
Great food and amazing staff.
I will certainly be going back.
Delicious food, great service, and good value for Portland Dining Month.
The food was amazing and the service was great! We did the 3 course meal for $33 for restaurant month and the menu was fantastic! The wine flight was great for trying several different wines. Great for a date night. I would highly recommend this restaurant!
Our server, Krystal, was the best server I've had in a very long time, maybe the best ever. She was personable, prompt, attentive. She made our birthday celebration special. The chicken dutch baby appetizer was outstanding. Sounds weird, tastes great.
We have eaten here a number of times. They have a great selection of raw oysters, their menu offers both large and small plates. You can have a cheese platter as well. All food has been great. The most recent night we were there, the waiters were a bit flustered, but usually we have had great service and very friendly. It is an open warehouse type of setting, but sound is not crazy....you can hear each other.
We have arrived early a few times and they have sited up immediately.
Another fine dinner at Southpark Seafoods. I'll go again next week.
We were there on a particularly busy night and reserved at last minute so did not get a great table, but that said, my only complaint was loud music and the table for two near the busy entraance. The food at South Park has never disappointed. We are frequent fliers.
Food is always top notch! Enjoyed their crab salad and highly recommend it.
We appreciated a diverse menu that appealed to everyone. Our meals were prepared creatively with a nice presentation. The service staff was politely attentive. Southpark was our first Portland Dining meal of the year and did not disappoint.
Food was a little too salty and expensive compared to the portion of food provided. I understand it is a seafood restaurant but it was a little over priced
Don’t waste your time. Food was mediocre for the cost. There are much better options in Portland. The hostess was the worst. Rude, never smiled, didn’t even say hello or have a nice meal. Bad first impression.
We went for Portland Dining Month. My husband’s pasta portion was so small, he ate it in 4 bites. That was the main. The food was delicious but how much harder or more expensive would it be to double the pasta serving and add a little more sauce, not even clams, just sauce. It’s a wonderful restaurant and the service was great, but I wouldn’t go back there for the Dining Month.
Great restaurant with fresh seafood in a great location--close to Newmark Theater and the Schnitz!
Get the clam chowder and you will not be disappointed! All other dishes are also excellent
This was my second visit for dining month. I had the steelhead with hominy stew. I ordered it medium. It came well done. I did not enjoy the flavor of the hominy stew. The lemon cheesecake was perfect. I have found with this restaurant, the food is good quality but the preparation is unreliable.
Amazing service, treated us so well. The food was delicious. Black cod, the steelhead and the chowder were all standouts.
We tried the restaurant month menu, but had to ask specifically for it. The choices were good. We had the beets and Brussel sprouts for the first course. Good but way too much of each. My friend didn’t like the clams as her second course - thought it was too tomato-y and spicy. I liked the salmon as my second course. The chocolate cake as the third course was delicious. Unfortunately the waiter forgot about us. He comped us a glass of wine to share. Luckily we allowed enough time to get to our show.
Very fast service! Great atmosphere and not too loud. The food was amazing, I’m already planning a second visit!
Don't know that I would recommend. Very noisy, small portions of Dining Month options, was given incorrect price for corkage fee, put at small table when I specifically requested another, not comfortable, probably should have left before ordering dinner, server wasn't very personable.
A great place for a nice business lunch. Excellent food and great coffee!
We chose Southpark as a Portland Dining Month destination, bringing friends along to enjoy the meal with us. The beet arugula salad was a generous portion, the clam chowder was delicious, and collectively we enjoyed the steelhead and steak mains. Among the four of us, we sampled all three of the desserts and each was savory in its own right. We had brought a bottle of wine to share but our group also ordered beer and a cocktail. All in all, it was a thoroughly enjoyable meal.
