Southernmost Beach Cafe Ratings and Reviews
Great place. We had lunch here the day we arrived, and went back for dinner another night and breakfast on our last day. The food was great, they prepared my fish perfectly. I love eating outside, just off the beach with a great view. It gets a bit noisy when all the fans are on, but it was quite pleasant there. I will defiantly go back on our next trip to Key West!!
The bar and bartender were great, I expected a little higher quality from the food once we sat down. The starters appeared in about 2 minutes which concerned me that they were pre-made and just heated up and they tasted like they were. The mains were of more concern because they appeared in like 3-4 minutes so there was no way they were prepared fresh to order. The yellowtail fish was edible but ordinary and very dry, I am convinced it was prepare (Macadamia Ceust) and frozen which is the last thing you expect in Key West, the other main of Drunken Scallops my wife thought was very good so all in all an so-sonexperience. Maybe because it was a Tuesday the main chef was not working, but based on this experience Pepe’s, Louie’s Backyard, Blue Heaven and Bagatelle far out rate this place.
Food quality was terrible. I ordered grouper and was shocked to see the "thin" sliced filet. I wasn't aware that a grouper filet could be cut so thin. It was very salty to the point of actually inedible. I ate around the first few bites and the rest was better. The vegetables included were pickles and a carrot. This was a bad combo. Also $33.00. The price was not listed on the menu. Most place in KW catch of the day run around $23.00
Breakfast and lunch are better. My suggestion is to skip dinner there.
Server (Ivana) was excellent.
Very loudy environment (probably because of the Fantasy Fest). It's your standard bar food at a high price. Service not good: Waiters are not very friendly and while we just started off with our starter, they allready brought the entrees. Restrooms were very, very dirty. I'll never go back to this place. You can find equal food for much less at every corner of Duval!
We had gone to Southernmost for a late lunch and it was beautiful, delicious and cheap. When we went for dinner we still had the the same fun atmosphere and great food and a terrific waitperson but the prices were very high. Just be forewarned that it's a different menu.
My daughter just wanted a burger with cheese and ketchup. It cost $20 with a side of vegetables. They would not modify from the menu. The server said she would bring the ketchup before the meal. Our meals were delivered with no ketchup, so we asked the server again. She forgot. Another server was filling drinks at our table and we asked him for ketchup, he told the server and she began waiting on other tables. After a few minutes I walked over to the bar and grabbed some ketchup. After being there for an hour, the server checked on us twice. The bill was $107.00, I left her a $5 tip. I was struggling inside to leave her that much.
The food was good the service was horrible at best.
Calamari was delicious. Scallops with lobster mash was a little too salty. When we mentioned it to the waitress, she said the scallops were always too salty (meaning she had gotten the same feedback before.) Lay off the salt and you will get better results.
Little too pricey as well
We recently enjoyed the Southernmost Cafe at least 3 times during a stay at the Southernmost Beach Resort. It was great all three times - perfect for drinks & appetizers our first night in town, amazing brunch one morning and then a surprisingly delicious dinner one night. Don't be fooled by the "beach bar" vibe, this place has top-notch Key West fare! Try the Stuffed Avocado appetizer, Drunken Scallops main course and a Key Lime martini for an unforgettable dining experience, all with a fantastic view of the ocean.
We have visited twice during our stay in Key West and enjoyed both times. It's not on the menu, but they will cook your catch for $16.95/ person. Chef Craig made our black fin tuna into an appetizer that was to die for. Such a treat! The coconut shrimp were also amazing.
If you want a break from the total craziness of Key West's Mallory Square area and want a fabulous meal by the beach, this is the place. The hogfish and calamari were the highlights of the meal (blackened or macadamia or other ways) along with fried chicken rivaling Savannah's finest. The appetizers were a total surprise with even duck fried rice (just superb). The staff from the hostess to waitress could train the world's 5 star restaurants on service and attitude and attentiveness. The whole atmosphere is just fun. And being maybe 50 yards from the waves and looking southwest into the sun (and being able to dress any way you want) was fabulous. After dinner, just go across the street and marvel at the Sounthernmost House and walk down the street to the Southernmost point marker. It does not get better than this anywhere
The food was just ok. The sea bass wasn't sea bass. The macademia crust tasted like cracker meal and had that consistency. The waitress asked how the meal was and I told her my observations. She became defensive. The manager came by and offered to replace the dish but insisted that the fish was sea bass and the crust was macademia. Sea bass doesn't flake like haddock or cod and has a totally different consistency.
My husband had the conch fritters. They were like cardboard. However the scallops were delicious. Wish I had ordered them.
The ambience on the patio was nice and fun to watch people on the beach.
