Southern Prime Steakhouse Ratings and Reviews
My wife and I enjoyed our Valentines dinner at Southern Prime. The service and food were both great. The only dissapointment was that they did not offer the full regular menu. It was a shortened menu for that particular night. I was really looking forward to the short ribs appetizer and the French onion soup as I have had in the past.
I always procrastinate when it comes to Valentine's Day so when I saw this place still had openings a week before the 14th I was skeptical it could be any good, so started researching it. Aside from a couple of negative reviews (which all places get) everyone had great things to say. So I made the reservation and I am glad I did. The wife and I had wonderful meals. There was a slight mix up on mine - I wanted prime rib and got rib eye - and Shane immediately apologized and offered to replace it. However, the rib eye was so delicious I opted to keep it - plus he informed me they have prime rib on special every Friday and Saturday, so that gives us a reason to return. Shane was also very helpful in selecting a wine that would match both my rib eye and the diver sea scallops my wife ordered (which were perfectly cooked and beautifully presented). The berries and cream dessert tasted so fresh I thought the berries were locally sourced - several of the menu items are, but not the berries. The meal was reasonably priced for the venue and the amount and quality of the food we got, and the bottle of wine we had was marked up a lot less over market price than I would have expected - which was a very pleasant surprise. We didn't finish the bottle (the perfectly prepared pre-dinner house martini's were to blame) so Shane corked and wrapped up the bottle for us to take with us. We will definitely be going back to Southern Prime Steakhouse.
The food was absolutely divine although the menu was limited. The food was very pricey, but definitely worth it. The service was outstanding, and the waiter was very thorough and polite. Though it was Valentine's Day and fairly busy, the noise level wasn't bothersome. Excellent experience, and I would definitely go again!
Food took a long time to make it to our table, and 4 out of 5 of the meals arrived cold. Mashed potatoes and baked potatoes were cold, dried out and flavorless. Steaks (except for one) cold upon arrival (but cooked as requested, i.e. rare, med. rare, etc.). Disappointed that - despite booking the table a month in advance and requesting a table in the wine room upon booking since this meal was to celebrate my husband's 60th birthday with his out of town brothers - we weren't told until the day before (when I called to confirm the reservation) that we would not be sitting there. On the upside, Megan (our server) was great, and the manager on duty (forgot his name but wasn't Mike) was sympathetic to our concerns. However, for a $600 cost for 5, one would expect a lot more. Perhaps try dining at Beefeaters (just down the road, not as much ambiance, but great steaks) or even LongHorn (also not far away, and much less expensive).
Great meal every time! This is one of our go-to spots for sure - have brought our kids, too, but tend to prefer this as an adult hang out instead. Had the salmon last night and it was wonderful - prepared just as I requested and they were spot on! The bar has a great ambiance and its fun to head there either before or after dinner for one of their craft cocktails! We'll definitely be back!!
Had high expectations after finding this restaurant online. An out-of-town guest who was joining me and my wife for dinner said he'd even heard it was supposed to be "one of the best in the region".
Facility, ambience, and service all got high marks (though perhaps even a few too many inquiries about food quality or simply timely clearing used dishes were a bit intrusive or awkward).
Our food experience however left us disappointed. One order of salmon was dry, completely over cooked, my personal choice of the "land and surf" offering was fair to poor. The steak tenderloin had little flavor and the risotto rice and gravey bed it sat upon was just so-so. Lastly, the lobster tail was overcooked, cool, and tough.
I didn't ask my guest about his prime rib and baked potato selection, but his meal looked better than the other two. Desserts were fine, priced perhaps a bit high for the portions and quality.
Better food preparation would make this an outstanding restaurant that I'd again willingly drive an hour or so to eat in.
Usually love this place, however the last two times we have been there we have been disappointed. Service has been slow and subpar, maybe they have a lot of new employees and we keep getting the newbies? The pasta dish was overcooked with too much of a very bland, cloying sauce. Burgers were good, but always are. We ate two bites of the pasta, should have sent it back, and the waiter didn't even seem to notice it was almost untouched. Again, maybe a novice mistake, but should have been picked up on and at least he should have given an apology.
When we make reservations we add comment if it is a special occasion. The restaurant used to make note of it and acknowledge. The last two times--nothing. The attention to detail was one of the things we likes about Southern Prime. We will not be going back for a while, hoping that something will change. Too expensive to be that mediocre
We had an excellent dinner at Southern Prime Steakhouse before going to the cinema. We both started with the Lobster Bisque, which was well flavored and had pieces of lobster in it. I had the Scallops and my husband had the Prime Rib as an entree, both were perfectly prepared and delicious. For dessert we both had the Raspberry Sorbet which was ever so tasty. The service was excellent and friendly. I definitely recommend the restaurant, especially for a special occasion.
Not the evening we hoped for. The server spilled tea on me and seemed to imply it was because I requested extra ice. All smaller steaks came out barely lukewarm, large steak was very good. Previous visits much better, we were very disappointed. Had brought family from out of town expecting a great experience to celebrate birthday.
I really hate to say this because we do like this restaurant but our meals this time were not good. Prime rib was so tough that it was almost inedible. Cold mashed potatoes and soggy vegetables. Server was good and attentive but don't know if we will be back.
This was the second time that I visited Southern Prime. The first time I ordered their signature steak, which was under-cooked and had to be returned. I was not impressed with the quality of the food or the service that evening. This time, I ordered the encrusted salmon from their special Christmas menu. That included a few fingerling potatoes and a small compote of vegetables buried under the salmon. The salmon was OK, but pretty dry. I ordered a lettuce wedge that wasn't a wedge, but a plate of lettuce topped with blue cheese and bacon. That was just OK as well. The waiter was not as friendly or attentive as he should have been, especially considering the holiday, but I've had worse. All in all, it would have been fine, except the bill was really high for the dinner, salad, a few pieces of sour dough bread and a glass of house wine. There are several other fine alternatives here, so I would have no reason to return to Southern Prime.
Made reservations for a birthday dinner with family in town. The staff decorated the table with birthday confetti and multiple people came by to say happy birthday. The food was AMAZING! We ordered the shrimp and grits for an appetizer; 2 filets, prime rib and the sea scallops for dinners, and a crème brule for dessert. We were also given a free lava cake for the birthday. All of it was so good. We also enjoyed cocktails and they do not skimp on the liquor and taste dangerously good. Overall an excellent visit I just wish we could have sat in the wine room. Hopefully next time!
My wife and I chose Southern Prime for our anniversary dinner...and we could not have made a better choice. From the start, we were treated very well, above and beyond what we expected. Not only was the food amazing, but the service was top-notch. Thank you for a fantastic and memorable experience - we'll be back!
Service very slow it took forever to get drinks and put our orders in. Wait staff need to be trained on how to serve in an upscale restaurant properly. Prime rib awful. I have ordered it on 2 different occasions and is was cooked wrong and taste more like roast beef!
My wife and I had a pleasant dinner on the wine room. The food and service was good. Only negative was (thankfully) as we were waiting for our bill 6 men came in and sat close by, very loud, obnoxious and dressed in jeans. At least they took their hats off. I think a restaurant that has its own separate wine dining room ought to have a dress code. People going to this restaurant wine white tablecloths good ambiance tend to “dress” up. Thankfully we were able to leave before our quiet dinner was ruined
