Southern Inn Restaurant
Met old friends!
Fathers Day. Excellent meal
The restaurant was quite full and quite noisy, particularly at the bar. The waiter was OK, but not very friendly or forthcoming. The fish special was un-edible....obviously it had been frozen and got frost burn which was disguised under a sauce. We returned it and did receive credit but the whole experience left us rather unhappy
Excellent meal, wonderful service, fabulous time. Our server was friendly and gracious, every item on our plates was cooked to perfection.
We made a last minute reservation as we were passing through for our anniversary. Everyone was extremely accommodating and the food was amazing!
The food was marvelous and our waiter friendly and knowledgeable. The atmosphere is a little rougher than I was expecting. Small and a little loud. Overall, the food made up for it.
Three of us ate dinner. The waiter was attentive. The food is quite good and its presentation is interesting, however, don't expect a large portion. My mahi mahi (about a 4 inch piece) sat on top of small assortment of grilled vegetables (don't let the menu's listing of Tri Color Farfalle, Roasted Baby Turnips, Fennel, Carrots, Leeks, Asparagus, Blood Orange Buerre Blanc think there's generous amounts of any of them). Guess I expected more fish and vegetables for $26.
Excellent meal, excellent atmosphere,, excellent service! Could not be better. Nor your everyday restaurant menu. Makes every entree and every meal a special occasion. You bet I’m going back!
The scallops melted in your mouth! They were prepared perfect!
My husband and I found this bistro gem while vacationing at wonderful B&B in Lexington. An eatery at it's finest, my husband enjoyed the pork loin and I the jumbo diver scallops. Our dishes were artfully presented and truly a treat for the taste buds. Ambiance was reminiscent of french bistros we have dined in the past, which added to our dining experience. Don't pass up this fine eatery; we highly recommend the Southern Inn Restaurant!
Southern Inn was a great spot for us to have dinner. My husband has some food allergies and they were able to accommodate him and still prepare a delicious meal! Everyone was very nice and the food was outstanding. The chef here is extremely creative and it is a spot that should not be missed. Also, learned their neon sign out front is the only neon sign in town as it was grandfathered in during the '30s! So fun!
Excellent fried chicken! The service was also very good.
Lovely meals at the Southern Inn will be a lovely memory of Lexington visits for me. Southern classics and innovative new cuisine make for a consistently winning dining experience offering something for everyone. Highly recommend!
Out with some gals for the weekend, we were given this recommendation and it didn’t disappoint! One lady is in a wheelchair, and our reserved table was upstairs but the quickly relocated us downstairs to accommodate. The food was excellent, highly recommend the pork loin and the fried chicken.
Would come back!
I was here once, years ago. It was good then, better now. The food was excellent and not what you find everywhere. The service was attentive without being intrusive. If I lived closer, I would go more often.
A great beer selection! Must try the meatloaf and ice creams!
We were a party of 9 but got service as if we were the only ones there. Perfect atmosphere, excellent food quality, good wine and beer list, great desserts and fair price.
It was the ideal place for my wife to enjoy a Mother’s Day meal. The food was outstanding and the service was phenomenal. On a side note the rose at the end of the meal was a lovely touch. We will definitely be back.
While the food was good it was disappointing that they didn't have a special since we were there for Mother's Day. We only had the brunch & lunch menu to choose from. The lunch menu consisted of only a few appetizers, salads, sandwiches & only 4 entrees. It all fit on one sheet of paper. They don't serve dinner entrees' till 5 p.m. Otherwise, the food was good but would have like to had more to choose from. Don't go there that often & probably won't go back for a while.
The Southern Inn is always reliable for its impeccable service, warm welcome, good food, and convenience to both Washington and Lee University and Virginia Military Institute, both of which are just a few minutes' walk away.
The Southern Inn never disappoints. The best Southern Fried Chicken I have tasted as well as wonderful seasonal vegetables and delicious mashed potatoes. The salads are fresh, crisp and tasty and they make their own dressings. Other menu items are good/excellent as well, but I can't help wanting their chicken. We dine here several times a year, and although I have ordered other things I always return to the chicken. If you are in Lexington, VA, do not miss the Southern Inn. And if you are there on a weekend or any time when Washington and Lee University or VMI are having anything big YOU MUST MAKE RESERVATIONS!
As always a great experience! We love having such a great restaurant in Lexington!
We had just finished a long drive and it was nice to have a delicious and relaxing dinner. Food was very good and service was excellent. We started with the fried Brussel sprouts which were delicious and then shared the cauliflower and beet salad which was also very, very good. I had the duck and my husband had the swordfish special and we both really enjoyed our dinners. Nice selection of wine as well. We recommend.
I would rate this restaurant as very good, but evening was marred for me because of two young women at the bar who were very shrill and very loud and screaming with laughter> It made for an unhappy dining experience for me. The saving grace was our wonderful server. She was a terrific server and very gracious.
Another visit and I would ask not to be seated in the room with the bar.
The food was melt in your mouth good! So glad we found it on our vacation.
Service was wonderful- very inviting and happy to have us there.
Excellent comfort food. Server Matt was very helpful in our decisions and did not disappoint.
The food was delicious!!! Everything was good!!
I eat lunch here every week I'm in town. Can't go wrong with the fried chicken, meatloaf or liver. And always ask about the soup, the sneaky highlight of the meal
We had a party of 7 and all of us loved our dinners. Favorites were the duck breast, the fried chicken, and the pecan pie.
We go out of our way to stop at southern inn. The fried chicken is the best we ever had eaten.
Years and years of good food, good service and congenial times. A triple delight.
I'm a local and this is the ONLY place I frequent for lunch. Best food, service and ambiance in town.
In town for a concert and had a great meal. Would eat here again if back in town.
Southern Inn is usually good, but for this brunch, the eggs were over done, avocado was totally brown, the potatoes were cold, and the bagel was hard. The Bloody Mary was very good though.
I have dined at the Southern Inn about 5 times and it has always been a great experience! The service excellent and the food is outstanding - I love the variety of the menu! My daughter is a freshman at Washington & Lee and I am excited that I will be able to dine there for the next 3 years.
Excellent dining experience, food was hot and had great flavor. Server was familiar with the menu and was very helpful in our choices. Highly recommended.
Got together with old friends from VABH
Excellent as always. Every time we are in town we eat here at least once, usually 2 or 3 times! Everything is good. Don't skip the Pecan pie!
We took a chance on this restaurant at the suggestion of my Stepdaughter who is in food sales and we were glad we did. The place doesn't look like much from the outside but inside tables are clothed in white table cloths. The restaurant is clean, service was outstanding, and the food was just great. It will now be the Go-To-Place for my wife and I when we are in the area.
