We took a group here for Denver Restaurant Week. The appetizers were pretty good, especially the fried green tomatoes and the chipotle/bbq ranch dipping sauce they came with. We also really liked the tater tots (maybe becuase we could drench them in the amazing rance sauce again). My honey salmon was very well cooked and had good flavors. Nothing extraordinary, but definitely good and more light than the other offerings for DRW. However, 3 others in our group got the steak poutine. The steak and gravy came out cold and had to be sent back. The third person ordered her steak medium and it came out (very) well done. Besides this, the service was great and the waiter brought out new, warm dishes promptly. The mudslide brownie at the end made up for everything at the end. It was DIVINE!!!
The food at Southern hospitality was absolutely amazing. They had all the food a southern girl could ask for. The ambiance was also very cute and the bar was amazing. The service though was terrible. The waitress got 3/8 orders wrong and it took 15 minutes to fix. Also with just entrées and dessert it took 2.5 hours!!! I do suggest the sweet tea if you go they make it in house.
As a native Texan who has moved to Denver, BBQ is an essential of life. Southern Hospitality for the most part fits the need. They have a great selection of southern cuisine and their BBQ brisket is outstanding. Likewise the pulled pork is great as well.
Don't forget to try the Pecan Pie or Bread Pudding afterward - both are amazingly good.
My friend and I met to catch up for the first time. Atmosphere was nice, but nothing to write home about. I don't remember it as I'm writing this review and it was two days ago. We ordered drinks, but were both disappointed by our respective choices. They were "so-so," but we were not delicious as you always want a cocktail to be.
She loved her catfish platter. I had a combo platter (beef brisket and pulled pork) with collard greens. The beef brisket was flavor, but overcooked/dry. The greens were okay, but not like my family's (Georgia and Alabama representing!) The pulled pork was excellent! Very well seasoned and I would go back just to have that.
Our waiter was great, very attentive and good sense of humor.
We had a reasonably good experience at this restaurant. Service was not great. The platters were a little expensive especially because the only got two items on your platter.
The food is good, and well prepared. I just would not rate this is an extremely good value.
The Memphis Bloody Mary was intense! It was an extra special father's day by celebrating with a spare rib and a deviled egg in my drink. Southern Hospitality does their meat up right, but the sides are underwhelming...forgettable coleslaw and crunchy cheese grits. End it on a high note with the delicious banana pudding!
After a few recommendations and reading a few reviews, a group of us decided to check this place out. We all loved the ambiance although food was just so, so. Nothing to write home about. I would recommend it to a friend as you what one person doesn't care for, another one will. I would go back for drinks although skip dinner.
First visit to SH. App was fried pickles and they were hot and crispy. Had the fried chicken for dinner and it was good with large portions. Had some left over. For dessert had the banana pudding it was tasty. Server was attentive when he was around ...a lot of lag time between visits to the table.
Southern Hospitality is completely underrated! I have no clue why there were so many open reservations! The food, drinks, and service were outstanding! I will definitely be back. Also, the basement bar was SO COOL! This is one place I will be recommending to everyone I know!
I found Southern Hospitality online prior to my first trip to Colorado for a concert. It was all it was described to be with great casual but upscale atmosphere and the best barbecue I have ever tasted. I had baby back ribs and they were tender and delicious and the baked beans were a big hit. The waiter was knowledgeable and friendly. Wish I had more room to try other things but we all left full and happy. I would definitely recommend it and look forward to a return trip in the future!
The food and service were outstanding. We had chicken and waffles, eggs benedict and the buffet. Generous portions of chicken, very flavorful, and waffles had a great texture and delightful. The buffet is clearly the way to go with a hungry male college student, saved us $$ for sure. The pulled pork was the best in town, and dine out quite often. I don't eat beef, but the family loved the brisket.
Excellent experience, and we are looking forward to sampling the ribs! Good location and great for Denver diners.
I went for Mother's Day brunch and the food was average. The brunch buffet included pulled pork, chicken and brisket, all which were cooked well and tasted good. I want to try something off of their menu to see if they have a unique twist. Overall I do suggest it.
Go there it's a little bit of south in your mouth. So I need to type 50 characters to submit my review. I figured the tag line would take care of it seeing that familiars of me know I am a man of few words. If I enjoy something it is strait to the point and was somewhat offended that they made me include more than my simple encouraging thoughts. I hope that's enough, anyway I recommend this as a great rib and 10 hour smoked brisket. Thanks for coming out
Dinner started off with appetizers of Fried Pickles and Pulled Pork Sliders, Pickles good, not the best and the Pulled Pork Sliders were great and had us looking forward to the main course. Food came 50 mins. later and was cold and bad. Second go around meat came out warm, sides still cold.
Meals were Comp'd (nice) and the Manager suggested we try their signature desert, the bread pudding. This is one of my all-time favorite Southern dishes (oh by the way I am from the South), it was tasteless mush and being from the South I know tasteless mush.
Save time and money if you live someplace other than LoDo and go to your neighborhood Bar-B-Q restaurant. If you want cold tasteless mush come to Southern Hospitality.
I was in denver for the weekend and made a res at southern. We were excited to order two large sampler platters so we could try everything! When the food came it just did not look right. We tasted a small PC of the chicken, brisket,ribs,pulled pork. It was Old, awful food I just can't describe what was presented. I called the waitress who called the manager who looked at me and said our kitchen does not produce food like this I just don't understand. That was his statement. Mine simply is then where did the food come from?? Stay away. The board of health should take a close look.
I've been a customer of Southern Hospitality on a few occasions now. It's a great place to hit for Happy Hour and I've rarely been disappointed with what I order. This time I had the Prime Rib dip and was disappointed in the lack of flavor. If you haven't been to Southern Hospitality definitely give it a try but I highly recommend to stick with the BBQ....and of course the green fried tomatoes!
Amazing service. Friend and I went for brunch and we had a great time. Food was a little heavy, but we expected that with brunch and a southern food spot. Server was awesome and willing to chat us. Bottomless mimosas were great. I'll definitely be back as the weather gets nicer to sit on their patio.
My friends and I had a great time at Southern Hospitality. The food was not only delicious, but it was food that surprises and satisfies, and is good value for your money. After our meal, they brought out hot towels to clean our hands or face. The service was outstanding. We will definitely go back again soon!
Our only complaint was the speed of service; it was a little slow. Our server seemed to have tables both up and down stairs which I am sure contributed to her lack of attentiveness. The food was great. The fried okra was killer, reminiscent of Mom's. I had the shrimp and grits. It was a very unique dish and quite tasty. I would get it again. My wife had a brisket sandwich. Now, I worked at famous BBQ restaurant in Austin, TX during college and I regularly smoke brisket on my own smoker at home. I am picky about my brisket. It has to have great smoke flavor, but more importantly at has to be moist and tender enough to pull apart easily with your fingers. I gotta say, the brisket impressed. I am going to crave this place.
They were not prepared for Rockies opener. Ran out of food items & draft beer. Slow service, esp bar. Need to staff up & plan for Downtown events that will effect them. Need to honor reservations before walk ins. If they are participating in Denvet dining options, ie wine pairings/ sampling, staff needs to know about. No flyers visible to customers either. Pleasant staff, just not ready.
It's been our 3rd time to this restaurant. My husband & I love to go out often to explore the Denver restaurtant scene - hopping from place to place based on our tastebuds. I'd been wanting a good dessert and the Pecan Pie on the menu had been calling my name. Sooooo looking forward to it! However, i was greeted with a barely warmed pie with pecans that tasted burnt. After a bite or two, we called the server over (he just wasn't following up on his product) to have the kitchen warm the pie. The pie that returned had been warmed, however, the portion that we sent back was larger than the portion we recieved, the pecans tasted even more burnt than before and we had to ask for the whipped topping again. Peach Crisp not much better.
We used this for a private function and booked the entire basement bar. It was nice a cozy for gathering around the bar, then we moved into the eating area. It wasn't set up for everyone to eat together, mostly small tables scattered around. It would have been better if tables were moved together so we could enjoy our meals as a group. Overall, the service was great and the bartender was spot-on! Thanks!
The food was really, really good. I had chicken tenders and biscuits (which turned out to be an entire half-chicken, bones and all. But I digress). It was juicy with amazing breading and the biscuits were flaky but still moist. The gravy was pretty good too. Great breakfast potatoes. Their basic bloody mary is okay. Not that spicy and no accoutrements if you don't ask. (I mean, I got an olive and a lime, which is just sad compared to the Memphis BBQ Mary - it has celery, pickle, olive, lime, bacon, salt, dry rub, Deviled egg, and a spare rib. And, a beer chaser! So you can understand my disappointment when I didn't even get a pickle.) I don't love coming downtown on the weekends so the location was a minus for me, but no one else minded.
