First time at Southern Cross. Lovely restaurant, and a pleasant ambiance (except for the conflicting noises from the tv and the house music). The “Cross Burger” was messy to eat but the flavors were on point! The brisket could have been a little more tender but still very tasty. Our server (whose name I forget) was delightful. She was bubbly, well informed, and seemed genuinely interested in our experience. We are looking forward to returning and tasting our way through the rest of the amazing menu!
I recommended this restaurant to friends for a birthday breakfast... It was too crowded, loud and disorganized...but it was the service that was awful! Our waiter was rude, abrupt, slow... we waited 45 minutes for an omelette & 2 orders of french toast which were almost fair. Our waiter asked us if the food was worth waiting for.... haha!!! We really wanted to say Nope!!! He reached across my friend to collect her used paper trash before we were finished. I really felt like he was pushing us out.
I had been to Southern Cross twice before and was pleased but I was embarrassed by the treatment we received and the whole experience.
Had a 1pm reservation on a Sunday. We went there specifically for a certain item, and then find out that they were doing brunch until 2pm. So we could not get what we went there for. Server was ok but not super pleasant. It definitely wasn’t as good as the last time I was there. Overall disappointed.
Went for Conshohocken Restaurant Week 2017. Had a 3-course meal that consisted of chicken & pork soup with southern-style dumplings; beef short rib with cheesy grits and asparagus; and a fried waffle with gingerbread ice cream. The meal got better as it went along.
The soup was rather uninspired and lacked depth, although I don't really know what I was expecting. It was hearty, but basically nothing more than described - some meat and dumplings in salty broth.
The beef was better - very tender as you'd expect from short rib, and no complaints here. What's not to like on that plate?
The dessert was decadent and wonderful. The fried waffle was delicious and the ice cream flavor a nice surprise. If anything, the gingerbread was a little strong, but good nonetheless.
Overall, I was not blown away, but left satisfied from a very decent meal. Service was also good throughout.
This was my first time here though I had heard of it from friends and others that had dined here. The restaurant is much larger than you would expect. There is a nice seating area downstairs, and a separate large bar area. The upstairs is huge with a porch for outside dining with an ambiance that really does make you feel like you are in the South, as well as a large indoor dining space. The whole restaurant has a great warm, cozy vibe and the decor is perfect. You really must try it. Appetizers are sized just right, if you are sharing with more than one person, get two. The meal portions are large and filling.
Love Southern Cross! Super delicious southern comfort food, lots of creative takes on classic dishes. Great beer selection, good relaxed vibes - perfect for a happy hour or dinner after work. Excellent value as well. You won't spend a lot, and you will definitely leave full.
Having lived in Atlanta previously we were intrigued when we first heard of Southern Cross. We were not disappointed. The Fried Green Tomatoes and Fried Pickles both were amazing. Waitress was incredibly kind and attentive. We plan on making this a regular restaurant when we're in the area.
What a great evening. We had guests from Italy, who were anxious to try American Southern food. . The meat/cheese board was a great starter for the table, with candied peaches, nuts, breads for this vegetarian. Guests had the catfish, fried chicken, and jambalaya and everything was excellent. We will be back soon.
Weather was nice so we requested the back deck. It was cool with a very light breeze. Drinks were good and of a good size. The appetizer was the pork belly and it was delicious. The three of us shared and it was just right for three. Our main courses were delivered promptly and they were large and wonderful. Just what you would expect from a Southern Kitchen. Our server was friendly and there just when we needed her. We will be back!
We met another couple for dinner. Although our one person was missing, we were still able to be seated and order. There were some special rum drinks - basil infused mojito was tried and enjoyed. We all split the pork belly appetizer which was good. Two people had "The Cross" burger, one had short rib grilled cheese, and one peaches and brie flatbread. All of the meals were delicious - no left overs! The service was attentive yet never interfered with our conversations.
This was my first time at SCK, recommended by family who have already dined there. I will say the food was very good, but the service we received was very strange and rude. I made a Friday 9:30PM reservation through OT, and reservation was confirmed. We arrived on time and was seated without issue. Literally within 2 minutes after opening the menus our server arrived and wanted to take our FULL orders. I told her we needed just a few more minutes, as it all looked so good. She then proceeded to tell us that we needed to get our orders in as the kitchen closes at 10PM. Clearly, the website said the hours of operation were to 2AM and although I understand kitchens are not open all night, why offer the public a 9:30PM dinner reservation through OT then??? From that point on, I felt uncomfortably rushed. Our appetizers came to us quickly (pulled pork mac & cheese is delish!), but right after so did our entrees. We were at a very small table for 2, and when she brought the entrees she actually PUSHED the appetizer plate I was eating from to the side to make room to set down my entree plate in front of me. THAT WAS RUDE. I had the pulled pork sandwich which was very good. IMO it needed a bit of BBQ sauce, as it was not very saucy. The Hub had the brisket grilled cheese. Also very good and gooey, with caramelized onions. Food highly recommended. Be wary, though, of the kitchen hours if you arrive late in the evening.
AMAZING Food! The BBQ Pork Mac & Cheese was heavenly. I'm drooling just thinking about it. Honestly you cannot go wrong there! Can't wait to go back for Shrimp & Grits. We shared everything - Short Rib Nachos and the Blackened Catfish Tacos. Loved it all!! This place is a gem. I was not expecting the bar on the 2nd Floor. Great ambiance. A must return.
Service was AWFUL. Not even a water refill? Food was mediocre and everything was very, very spicy. After our meal our waiter dropped the check on our table - never asked if we wanted dessert (or water refills... sheesh).
Will absolutely never go back or recommend.
The food we had was really good (Monte Cristo sandwich and another dish with grits and eggs) and the red sangria was one of the best I've ever had. The only drawback was the first floor atmosphere/seating area. After seeing numerous other parties being seated upstairs, I decided to go and check it out and it was SO much nicer! Just as I was about to ask if we could be seated up there instead (we only had our drinks at this point), our main entrees arrived, so we stayed where we were. If you do go, I highly recommend being seated upstairs for an overall more pleasant dining experience!
