It was my first time there & would recommend it for a nice casual environment with very good food & great service.
Service was wonderful. Waitress very sweet and attentive. Food arrived quickly. The food was good but not inexpensive.
My girlfriend’s favorite restaurant ambiance in the area thus far!
Across the board just average. Average food, at best average service, average atmosphere. First course selections were better than second course. Most disappointing was the shrimp and grits. If you’re striving to be a southern cuisine destination, you really should get this dish right.
Always fun place to meet for good food and drinks. Unique menu. Great staff.
The food, ambiance and service were spot on with the southern hospitality and theme of the restaurant. The Crab Benny (brunch) was delicious and they had strong mimosas.
I’d been several times a few years prior with a great experience. This time all of the food came out cold, the chicken was extremely dry and the brisket was so fatty it was inedible. I ordered a salad with iceberg lettuce and it came with spring mix. When I told the server her response was oh well I told them iceberg. No offer to correct the mistake. She just walked away. It was one of the worst meals all six of us dining has had in as long as any of us can remember.
Food was delicious, service started out a little slow but was excellent after that. I think the staff was just trying to get a good handle on the very busy Sunday brunch crowd. The place was extremely crowded (noon,Sunday) and the only negative was it was so noisy that it was difficult to have a comfortable conversation. So my advice would be to dine here at an "off" time when it's not so busy; I've been there for dinner on a weeknight and it is nice and cozy.
Brunch was delightful and our food was delicious. The restaurant was very busy with several private parties, so service was a little slow. The food was definitely worth the wait and the mimosas and bloody Mary’s were priced just right. Great place to meet friends for bunch
Great food. Chicken fried chicken for brunch was fantastic!
Salads were served along with the entrees. With the exception of the cornmeal bun which was hot, the entrees were lukewarm. My short rib was dry and chewy. The other entree of beef brisket came with sauce which aided in adding moisture.
I didn’t enjoy my food at all. To each is own. The happy hour was good though.
The fried chicken was very dry. And we specifically got it after the waitress recommended it. They also ran out of mashed potatoes.
Brunch was great!
Food was amazing, but the service was not great. Granted, they were very busy for a Sunday morning brunch, but it definitely left something to be desired.
1st time there on Friday evening. Cozy seat at high top in bar. Enjoyed their different menu with southern dishes you don’t often find in the surrounding area.
The southern theme did not show in the decor or the food. The music coming through the speaker was out of place and the constant in your face branding of "Conshy Girls" didn't seem to fit. Overall, things were fine but if you're expecting some down south experience, this is not the place to get it.
Very slow service. The server behind our table bumped into us at least 10 times without acknowledging it. Not a great experience.
The ambiance was perfect for a night out with hubby and friends and the staff was great. However...my night would have went much better if I knew beforehand my selected items came topped with pork/beef. I have not had pork/beef in over 20 years but was unaware that my deviled eggs came topped with it and my garlic mashed potatoes came with a beef stock gravy. Neither were indicated in the menu and there was no more garlic mashed for me to get without any gravy on it(per my waitress). Would I come back and give it another try?...absolutely because my husbands fish entree was quite tasty :) However, it would be great if you indicated this on the menu. For example, I never expected my chicken entree to come with a beef gravy on the potatoes. Since the menu stated the collard greens was cooked in pork, i knew to substitute that beforehand but nothing was mentioned about the gravy, if anything I would have expected a chicken gravy...but definitely not the brown beef gravy I received.
I must say the remaining 3 guests from my party enjoyed their meal. Would I give them another try? Believe it or not, it is actually a possibility. I ate a little of my husband's salmon and it was quite tasty :)
This was our first experience at this restaurant. Loved the lively atmosphere. Menu was creative. Food portions were plentiful and very tasty!!
Server never brought our check. Food wasn’t very good. Service was slow. Manager looked hungover. Just not a very good restaurant I am sorry to say.
We sat at the bar because the ambiance seemed good. The bartender, Jonathan, makes an excellent drink. I had a Sazerac, my first, and it was really smooooth. My husband had Jonathan's House Aged Manhattan which he also enjoyed, but from my perspective, the Sazerac was the better of the two. For dinner we had Jambalaya and the tuna tacos. Plentiful and flavorful! It was our first time there and we can't wait to go back again. Enjoy!
First time going. Went for brunch. Food portions were way bigger than expected. Definitely get your money’s worth. Drinks were decent. Overall a great place and awesome food.
Shared a birthday dinner at this warm, convivial restaurant tonight! We loved the fried green tomato app! The cornmeal crust was delish and the goat cheese was a nice touch. The shrimp and grits were light and fluffy and so flavorful! Our fried chicken sandwich and fried chicken entree were banging! The greens were divine! Our servers Jessica and Willie were adorable, efficient, accommodating and personable! We had a nice chat with owner Marianne and she treated us to dessert and sparkling! (Thanks Marianne!) She made us feel welcome and appreciated and showed us warm Southern hospitality for a “Conshy Girl”! Will definitely return to this gem!
My husband and I wanted to try something different for a lunch date. The fried pickles were so good! The Mac and cheese was delicious but wasn’t super hot (our only complaint). We will be back for dinner for sure!
The staff are friendly and helpful. Sunday brunch is absolutely delicious. The crab Benny is my favorite.
We had brunch and everyone got something different. Everyone enjoyed their meal. I had French toast & the menu described it with thick Texas toast, it seemed to be regular bread (bummer). Overall everything was very tasty. Definitely will go back.
After reading reviews about delayed and disconnected service, my partner and I chose to try Southern Cross hoping they were one-offs. Sadly, this was not our experience. On arrival at 5:45pm on Friday evening, we advised our very cheerful server about a 7pm commitment that was approximately 6 blocks away. We ordered entrees only, in order to speed up the process. 35 minutes later we had no food and no explanation from the waitperson. THERE WAS ONE OTHER TABLE IN THE DINING ROOM AND THEY WERE EATING DESERT! After a visit to the kitchen door I learned the food was "coming right out." Very average tasting food arrived on scuzzy looking, warped cutting boards (that did not fit on the table). Cute touch, but I prefer cleaner everything, from the service to the food to the tablewear. This restaurant is part of a local chain "Conshy Girls" restaurants. We have tried others and had similar experience. We will not be back.
We waited over 45 minutes for 3 orders at lunch time. It was not busy and they looked understaffed considering our waitress changed 3 times from the beginning of the meal to the end.
The fried chicken sandwich was very good but plain (pickles and sauce, could have used some more toppings). The pulled pork sandwich was flavorless and sloppy. And the home made chips were soggy and had no flavor. Overall, we were disappointed with the experience and would not go back.
Reception was extremely friendly. Hostess and servers made us very comfortable and welcome. Made menu suggestions when asked.great food, non-rushed pace, 2 hours and never pushed. We will be back soon.
wife and i have had dinner here twice. we decided to try brunch sunday. Lets just say our soft spoken unsure of herself server can use additional training. ordered monkey bread with no sauce since we were told it contained dairy. it arrived with what we thought was just syrup and began eating only to have server walk by while eating it, and say so sorry (since it contained dairy), "but at least you are not allergic"....um, wife is, thank u!!! Ice tea never came but billed for it and oh we quickly sent the monkey bread back ...only to habe mgr tell us they removed it from the bill....hello we hope so since 95% of it was still in the pan.
ok, so breakfast was apparently a chore of sorts so we thought we hadnt eaten dinner here in awhile, lets try the monday seafood boil which we have thoroughly enjoyed at the shore or carolinas when vacationing.... well southern cross, not certain how far south u originated but the boil was quite uninteresting... food quality was pretty good, but charge an extra $15-$20 if need be, and put some mussels and clams in there thar werent tic tac size in those shells... also pictured on ur site was a heaping bowl of boiled potatoes in with your in restaurant advertised clams, mussels, crabs,( shrimp & crawfish of which there were none til we asked about it and chef made a small plate of it for us).... we also waited about 30 min for our salad to arrive which the goat cheese salad was delicious, but why did our entree arrive 30 seconds later... it wqs 545pm and there was 5 people dining on a dreary monday evening....were our 2 glasses of wine not half price either like your happy ads say...oh thats right, we were told if they were, the computer wouldve taken it off automatically!?!? thats correct folks...only people make errors, not computers.... lets step back and allow ourselves to think for once and bot be robots!!! well southern cross, u have recd my last $120 for quite awhile. i cant imagine management has a clue, but hopefully!
Good food selection, great service. Our go to restaurant for brunch, special occasions and just a night out.
Very enjoyable family dinner. Interesting and delicious variety of food.
We’ve been here before and have never been disappointed. They did recently change their menu. The beef brisket grilled cheese sandwich is no longer on the menu but we were able to order it. We also had the spicy shrimp sandwich and the Kentucky brown (can’t remember the exact name). They do serve Coke products. They do have a dessert tray. We had the peach cobbler which came with vanilla ice cream and the layer cake. Because it’s Labor Day weekend, there’s really no one around. We were by ourselves for awhile before another table of 3 arrived. The weird thing was that they were seated at the table right next to us in this otherwise empty restaurant. When the next group of 4 arrived, they were seated across from us. I just don’t understand why. Overall we had a fun time and the food was good.
We arived at 12:57pm for 1 pm Sunday brunch reservation. There was no hostess at the front so we waited to be seated. 2 servers approached us and I explained I had a reservation for 2 at 1pm. Neither server checked us in (which later caused open table to email me, stating I did not honor my reservation.. but I resolved that). We were seated in the upstairs dining area and put in our drink orders at 1:05pm - a mimosa and a Bloody Mary) We then sat and watched 2 other tables get seated and received their drink orders before our waiter finally came back at 1:22. Totally unacceptable, we were about to leave at this point. He apologized and we put in our food orders. Food came out quickly but we both had ordered sides with our entrees that didn’t come out. We sat and waited until the server finally showed up with the sides, and then started our meals (which were cold by then). Despite being cold, the food was still tasty, but I just couldn’t get over the deplorable service. We usually love this place, but the last few occasions have been a total nightmare.. definitely will not be back for a while, hopefully they turn it around.
Awesome for brunch - loved the crab Benny and short run Benny. Great cocktail menu too!
Food and service were both exceptional. Will definitely be back!
Went for an early brunch with an out of town friend. I had the cowboy skillet and she had the huevos rancheros (and French toast to share). The food was great! Service was great! Highly recommend!
Excellent food and service
