wife and i have had dinner here twice. we decided to try brunch sunday. Lets just say our soft spoken unsure of herself server can use additional training. ordered monkey bread with no sauce since we were told it contained dairy. it arrived with what we thought was just syrup and began eating only to have server walk by while eating it, and say so sorry (since it contained dairy), "but at least you are not allergic"....um, wife is, thank u!!! Ice tea never came but billed for it and oh we quickly sent the monkey bread back ...only to habe mgr tell us they removed it from the bill....hello we hope so since 95% of it was still in the pan.
ok, so breakfast was apparently a chore of sorts so we thought we hadnt eaten dinner here in awhile, lets try the monday seafood boil which we have thoroughly enjoyed at the shore or carolinas when vacationing.... well southern cross, not certain how far south u originated but the boil was quite uninteresting... food quality was pretty good, but charge an extra $15-$20 if need be, and put some mussels and clams in there thar werent tic tac size in those shells... also pictured on ur site was a heaping bowl of boiled potatoes in with your in restaurant advertised clams, mussels, crabs,( shrimp & crawfish of which there were none til we asked about it and chef made a small plate of it for us).... we also waited about 30 min for our salad to arrive which the goat cheese salad was delicious, but why did our entree arrive 30 seconds later... it wqs 545pm and there was 5 people dining on a dreary monday evening....were our 2 glasses of wine not half price either like your happy ads say...oh thats right, we were told if they were, the computer wouldve taken it off automatically!?!? thats correct folks...only people make errors, not computers.... lets step back and allow ourselves to think for once and bot be robots!!! well southern cross, u have recd my last $120 for quite awhile. i cant imagine management has a clue, but hopefully!
Good food selection, great service. Our go to restaurant for brunch, special occasions and just a night out.
Very enjoyable family dinner. Interesting and delicious variety of food.
We’ve been here before and have never been disappointed. They did recently change their menu. The beef brisket grilled cheese sandwich is no longer on the menu but we were able to order it. We also had the spicy shrimp sandwich and the Kentucky brown (can’t remember the exact name). They do serve Coke products. They do have a dessert tray. We had the peach cobbler which came with vanilla ice cream and the layer cake. Because it’s Labor Day weekend, there’s really no one around. We were by ourselves for awhile before another table of 3 arrived. The weird thing was that they were seated at the table right next to us in this otherwise empty restaurant. When the next group of 4 arrived, they were seated across from us. I just don’t understand why. Overall we had a fun time and the food was good.
We arived at 12:57pm for 1 pm Sunday brunch reservation. There was no hostess at the front so we waited to be seated. 2 servers approached us and I explained I had a reservation for 2 at 1pm. Neither server checked us in (which later caused open table to email me, stating I did not honor my reservation.. but I resolved that). We were seated in the upstairs dining area and put in our drink orders at 1:05pm - a mimosa and a Bloody Mary) We then sat and watched 2 other tables get seated and received their drink orders before our waiter finally came back at 1:22. Totally unacceptable, we were about to leave at this point. He apologized and we put in our food orders. Food came out quickly but we both had ordered sides with our entrees that didn’t come out. We sat and waited until the server finally showed up with the sides, and then started our meals (which were cold by then). Despite being cold, the food was still tasty, but I just couldn’t get over the deplorable service. We usually love this place, but the last few occasions have been a total nightmare.. definitely will not be back for a while, hopefully they turn it around.
Awesome for brunch - loved the crab Benny and short run Benny. Great cocktail menu too!
Food and service were both exceptional. Will definitely be back!
Went for an early brunch with an out of town friend. I had the cowboy skillet and she had the huevos rancheros (and French toast to share). The food was great! Service was great! Highly recommend!
Excellent food and service
Great food, service and when the owners found out it was our anniversary, they brought over some champagne. Great times and great place thank you!
I really love this place but I couldn’t give it five stars. It seemed like the servers wanted to get you out of the restaurant because my one friend was asked 3 times in a matter of 2 minutes if she was done with her food. She finally gave up because it was kind of annoying and just had them take the food away.
Decor was charming and service was good but the food was terrible. Both my meal and my husband’s meal were unpalatable. Would not recommend.
Was looking for a brunch spot for our anniversary and couldn’t have been more satisfied! Great food, great drinks, and a great spot!
Very nice restaurant. Great food. Very nice staff
Excellent food. Big portions. The loaded tots were incredible as was the fried chicken. Totally recommend giving this place a try.
Great food and service. The fried green tomatoes and the short rib Mac n cheese is a great starter.
Fun brunch with the family
My wife and I found Southern Cross Kitchen on a whim and so happy we did. Bobbie was our waitress. She was attentive and knowledgeable about the food. Based on her recommendations we got the monkey bread to start and the rest of food was just as wonderful. The restaurant has great character. Looking forward to coming back on a Tuesday or Thursday night. Not often my wife says I picked a great place. But, today I did.
Wife and I went out for a night without kids. Menu looked good and everything that we tried was great. Awesome beer list as well.
Everything was first-rate: The hostess who greeted and took us to our table; our server Sophia who was beautiful in every way; our appetizers were so good I doubled up on deviled eggs to have a second order with dinner too; my filet was so perfectly cooked and tender, it cut with my fork; and our drinks were dangerously, dangerously good. Our experience could not have been any better from beginning to end.
My wife and I had dinner in the bar area. It seemed like there was a click of people in there including the bartender and he seemed more interested in their conversations than waiting on us. Very young crowd and we are not on the very young side.
Honestly, our servers were lovely. It's also a beautiful space. We've gotten takeout there for dinner in the past, but like 2 years ago, and it was great. However, I will never return for brunch. It was disappointing. I didn't have any mixed drinks but multiple people had issues with the lack of alcohol in theirs. They remade though, so I would still recommend the bar there. I'd say that half our party loved their food and had no problems. 3-4 of us had nearly inedible eggs. Oil literally pooled on the plates. It was crazy. One of the guys still ate theirs, guys yknow. Couple of us basically just ate the tops of our plates. I did report it, not looking for any freebies, just wanted the cooks to know it was bad enough that I thought I should say something. Our servers were very nice about it and the manager was supposed to come up to see us but never did so... Shrug. Anyway, I'll give it a shot for dinner again sometime but if you go for brunch, 1) don't eat upstairs it's hot AF, and 2) avoid all of the omelettes.
Three different glasses were dirty!
Was really looking forward to the fried chicken I'd heard so much about. It was okay. Not as crisp as I'd hoped but good flavor, not overcooked, and not overly salted which sometimes happens. The collard greens were delicious. The peach cobbler was tasty - not overly sweet. The cocktails were excellent.
Great food, great atmosphere and excellent staff and service
Willy was our server and was awesome in every way. We’ll be back for brunch in a few weeks. Great atmosphere.
Our waiter, Cory, was wonderful and elevated our brunch experience.
The food was great, which I have come to expect from Southern Cross. However, Cory's service and attentiveness was what really pushed things over the top.
We booked this for our vow renewal lunch and everything from the staff to the fried green tomatoes was fantastic! We had an amazing day!
Had a great dinner and Eric was excellent!
Went for Fathers Day brunch. Great meal
Father’s Day brunch with the family. Good time. Our first time there and will be back!
Although the service was extremely slow and took awhile to get our drinks, we understand that it was a holiday weekend so there were most likely staffing issues. The food however was amazing and will be the number one reason we come back again! We've been to Gypsy Blue many times and this is a welcome addition to our list.
Great neighborhood gem
Got together for a friend’s 40th birthday for brunch. Always love the atmosphere here. Was our friend’s first time and she wants to plan more brunches here because she loved it so much. Staff was pleasant and helpful.
Such a great time! Dinner was perfect and the night was topped off with a fun acoustic band. It made our special night out one for the books!
They were understaffed for the night (Mother's Day) and not handling it well.
We had high hopes after hearing good things from friends - but they must have been having an off day. Service was so incredibly slow (even the kids meal for a toddler came 90 minutes after we were seated) and the meals were disappointing. Appetizers were great and the drink selection is impressive.
Mothers Day disaster. Long story short, service was nonexistent. Appetizers, along with children’s meals, arrived almost an hour after ordering with no apologies. Additionally, had to flag down other staff for drink refills. That said, I did receive an apology when my kale salad was made with spring mix, as well as for my corn bread being frozen. The manager did step up by removing both items from the bill. Unfortunately, our Mothers Day dinner was already ruined at that point.
There for Mother’s Day brunch. Despite having a number of large parties they were very efficient and had plenty of staff on hand. Everyone was extremely friendly. Food was delicious.
