Southern Cross Kitchen
Good food, good vibe.
We went for brunch, I got the breakfast burrito and cornbread, everyone loved their food. I will return for sure.
Interesting twist on brunch menu items . Great service, pleasant atmosphere. Parking can be tricky
End of chemo celebration for a friend brunch! Everything was delicious and the music was great!
Absolutely incredible meal! Highly recommend for group dinners, dates, and they have quizzo on Wednesday nights. I have been twice in the past month and will definitely keep going back in the future! Recommend the fried chicken to share, chicken sandwich, Mac and cheese, and cheesesteak egg rolls. Thank you, Southern Cross Kitchen, for a wonderful meal!
Kiddie New Year’s Eve was great-thank you!
Everyone was very
Will is awesome! Great time catching up with a dear friend. Great service and atmosphere! Delicious food.
Great service, accommodating since our meal came out cold. Once warmed the food was delicious! We will return, perhaps not on a Saturday
Always delicious! The new beignets are lovely!
AMAZING food. The steak and eggs are some of the best I’ve ever had.
this place was pretty good. The ambiance, the service,
Recommendations, and the food and drinks were all good. Gwen, our server was wonderful and pleasant.
Love this place. We had such yummy food - breakfast quesadillas, chicken & waffles, crab Bennie and don’t forget the beignets.....oh my!
We wanted to try Southern Cross because they took part in the Meals on Wheels fundraiser and the food was delicious. We really enjoyed it! Very cool place, and the food was delicious.
My wife and I have been to Southern Cross several times and it has never disappointed. The food is great and is served in large portions so you can have the leftovers the following day. Service has always been good, a little slow this time but not bad. Also usually one of the owners will stop by your table to check to make sure everything is OK. We took my sister and brother in law this time and they really enjoyed it. I'll be going back again.
Would have been 5 stars if there wasn't a Trump rally upstairs
A place w/o pride
great food, great service - the band was too loud and right next to our table
The food was good even though they didn’t have the spicy shrimp I got there last year. I shouldn’t have had to ask for a straw for my soda.
Host checked on us to make sure we were doing ok as food was coming out a little late, but we were fine because we were enjoying our time there with our daughter who is in College.
Always a great time here! Excellent service!
Food was overcooked & at the same time not very hot, as if it was done a while before brought out to us. Wasn't very flavorful either. This was our attempt at giving them another chance bc the 1st visit we had there was the same result. Most likely won't go back.
Great atmosphere....great food...excellent service!!
First time going this restaurant, we went for brunch and we had absolutely no complaints. The staff was extremely friendly and the food was amazing. We are looking forward to trying dinner.
This was our first visit to this restaurant and the parking situation was chaotic. Once inside, we were greeted and welcomed even though we were late due to the parking issues.
After being seated we were greeted by our server, Gwen was truly amazing. We were shocked to learn that she had only been a server for a week with this restaurant and that we experienced her first night serving even though still in training!
The food. This is where it goes south.. no pun intended. Three of us ordered the buttermilk fried chicken which is paired with macaroni and cheese and pork infused collard greens, as per the menu. Sounds delicious, right?!! We couldn’t wait to dig in!!
The collective agreed that the food was subpar and well below our expectations. I personally took it very personally that they would ruin a soul food classic and then charge about $25 for making is force feed it down our throats. Fire the chef! Greens are supposed to be cooked for hours and the flavor should be robust and powerful and the texture tender. The chicken was tasteless and the Mac n cheese was lifeless. Very disappointing. Although, I had a wonderful time with my friends and enjoyed Gwen’s table service, this is an establishment I will not be returning to...ever. Thank you for trying, but it’s a NO for me. Note to chef: try smoked meats for ur greens and cook them longer than 5 mins and ditch the vinegar, it was insulting. Oh and here’s a thought, add seasoning!! Thanks Gwen and best of luck, u are a doll!! 😘
Birthday dinner. We were excited to eat at a restaurant specializing in southern cooking. Unfortunately, it didn’t meet the mark on the true southern front, but the food was still delicious.
Great Brunch! Food was delicious and service was very good. Large portions!
2nd time at Southern Cross was much better. Last time, huge delays with service and order mix ups. This time much smoother! For party of 3, we ordered 2 Impossible Burgers and one fried chicken sandwich, with side salads. The Caesear salad was exceptional, especially when added to a sandwich was only $2.50 vs $12 for appetizer! Sandwiches were all very tasty - but the burgers were a little over done, and the server didn't ask how we wanted them cooked. Even though it's not "meat", I've had them elsewhere and they can definitely be more juicy. All in all food and service are both good and a great value compared to comparable places in Conshy. Would definitely recommend.
I don’t think we’ve ever experienced worse service anywhere. The waitress was an absolute train wreck. From bringing my husband a non-alcoholic Beer when he ordered a Rolling Rock, to forgetting to bring my BBQ sauce and never bringing my tator tots ( and I really wanted my tots🙁) to bringing me someone else’s bill AND THEIR CARD. As we were leaving I heard her apologize to another couple and then apologized to us as well. She may want to consider another career.
Great food! Great service! Great for date night!!
Great food and great people.
First time at the place, and the food was excellent. We came for the wings (buffalo - which is a smokey buffalo, and BBQ - which has additional herbs added to it), but stayed for the remaining Southern goodness. The table had the Louisiana-style Seafood Primavera - AMAZING (more toppings than pasta), the catfish po' boy (more bread than meat unfortunately), the Cross-cake sandwich (fried crab cake), and the fried goat cheese salad. The salad came out WITHOUT the fried goat cheese and was even missing additional toppings. They quickly corrected, but come on - that should have never left the kitchen. Otherwise, attentive service and good cocktails.
Friendly staff, creative drinks, neighborhood feel. Fried pickles a great appetizer. Jambalaya and pork chop were excellent and substantial.
I love this restaurant and eat here often, but I found it annoying last night because when I ordered a pumpkin spice dessert It was denied because I ordered dinner from the regular menu and not the Restaurant Week Special Menu - the dessert was on the special menu. I am a frequent customer and will continue to be, but I think a customer should be able to order anything that's available in the restaurant. This is the second time it happened. I have a friend who won't eat here again because of this. I don't feel that way because I love the food.
I could of had a better burger at McDonald's. The burger was listed as a Wagyu burger and was ordered as medium rare. What they brought out was a boiled burger that tasted like school lunch meat.
Food was great today! The hostess let us pick where we wanted to dine since there was music going on in one of the rooms. We were outside on the covered porch. Our food came out very fast, which was great. One complaint- our reservation was for right in the middle of brunch service, so we ordered drinks from the brunch menu. When we got the bill only one of the drinks was NOT full price, even though we ordered off of the brunch priced menu. I guess our reservation went a few minutes passed happy hour and they switched it over during our meal. I understand, however I wish we were informed before continuing to order. And from a customer service perspective, it was just a bummer.
Night started out great as our server, Jen, was funny and personable! Ordered a couple of cocktails that were just okay. Flavor was not worth their price so we went with beer for the second round. We ordered fried green tomatoes (my favorite of the night) and andouille corndogs (had a nice kick to them)- both were delicious. I got the crab cake/crawfish sandwich which was very good and packed with meat. Also got a side of mac and cheese, but it was not the "southern" mac I was hoping for and know. My husband got the original fried chicken dinner and loved the chicken and its crunchy coating, but said the sides were mediocre. Overall 4/5 on food, and would come back to get the southern cooking you just don't see often enough in the North.
This place was packed and there was a slight delay being seated (though we had the reservation). The live music was deafening, but luckily they could relocate us outside. Food was good, save my omlette (main course) looked like it'd been cooked and run through a microwave---rubber!
Great find. We’ll be back. My husband I both had fried chicken. Mine was delicious. He said his was a little dry.
