The restaurant presents a warm and energetic family restaurant with a menu that features food from Cuba, Argentina, Brazil and Mexico. SOUTH offers food made with organic ingredients, fresh juice and homemade mixers, imported cheese and salsa made fresh daily.
The menu features baby green beans, grilled street corn and stuffed jalapenos for starters. Main courses at SOUTH include poblano chicken, sweet potato enchilada plate, argentine steak and fries and a variety of specialty tacos including steak, vegetarian and Baja style fish tacos. Other choices offered are burritos, enchiladas and several sandwiches.
This has been one of our favorites for the past 1-2 years, but more recent (last several months) the service has drastically changed from what we used to know. You could always be sure that the food, and service would be fantastic, but the service has become less than acceptable. It's really too bad because we love this place! Please find some more great wait staff so we can continue to keep this as our favorite!!!
We go to Leavenworth at least once a year, and always make South a stop! It's great!
Fabulous as always! I hate to keep giving such good reviews as it's getting harder and harder to get a table on the weekends. But, we'll keep driving the hour to get there as it's worth every morsel! I've yet to have something I didn't care for on the menu.
South is GREAT!! A Family favorite!!
Best restaurant in Leavenworth.
Super easy reservations using Open Table. Once entering the restaurant we were seated immediately while (sorry guys) waiting diners stood in the doorway for up to an hour or more. Reservations a must. Dining here a must. Fresh. Delicious. Tender pork carnitas. A must stop every time we visit Leavenworth.
A very unique menu. Always difficult to choose an entree, because everything is consistently prepared to perfection. A local favorite.
Always a treat, South always comes through with great food and uniques drink selections. Mexican with a flair!
South offer's creative, flavorful, Latin American food that is always made with the freshest ingredients. We visit Leavenworth often and no trip is complete without a visit to South.
I have had several great meals at South before but this time around with a large group our meals were not so good. The mole sauce was definitely off and tasted like nutmeg too much, which is too bad since they told us they were known for their mole sauce. My fried fish burrito had no fried fish in it, and my friends fish taco tasted 'off' and there was very little fish in her fish taco. Overall, we left hungry and dissappointed in the food.
Excellent food, service, and drinks! Highly recommend.
Excellent margaritas, and outstanding service. I didn't care for the Mole however, as it was smothering everything else and too sweet, but the seafood enchilada was very good.
This was a golden find; a relief to all the heavy Bavarian food in Leavenworth. We were pleased with the flavorful food, good vegetarian options, pleasant patio seating, and live music that added to the ambiance and still allowed you to talk. All around wonderful!
This restaurant was recommended to us by someone who lives in Leavenworth who is a vegetarian. Since we are vegetarians, we decided to give it a try. The food was wonderful. I had the squash/poblano chiles enchilada which was to die for. There was also enough left-overs for dinner last night. We both definitely plan to eat there again when we visit Leavenworth.
Nice Latin/Mexican break to the Bavarian Village concept. Wait staff was nice, the food was nice. We sat in the outside back area, which gave the feel of an authentic Mexican locale.
Quality of food was excellent. First time here so next time I'll call call ahead to reserve their Friday night Pork Shank special which looked great but sells out fast. Service was great so will return to eat again!
We had a fantastic evening at South. From the jalapeño margaritas to start to wonderful entrees it is a truly solid Mexican experience. Fresh, simple, true to Mexico flavors make South a must do in Leavenworth.
I've eaten at many a Mexican restaurant all over the world and South has been the best by far. We ate out back in the patio area. It was a very hot night but was nice and cool on the patio. We started off with chips and salsa (no, they are not included but they are good and worth the $4.00 we paid). My partner and I both ordered the Shrimp Burrito which was amazing. The shrimp were huge and the other fillings were fantastic (cheese, cilantro). The coleslaw side was so yummy. We ended up here on our last night in Leavenworth but would have definitely been back if we had more time.
Food was delicious. But no blended Margaritas, so on a hot day, the drinks aren't very cold, however the varieties of tequila makes up for it. Try the stinger.
South was great. Excellent menu, attentive service by our waiter Matt, fun atmosphere. Only wish they had a restaurant in Spokane.
Very great restaurant in Leavenworth. You might not think of going here while in a Bavarian village, but it is definately something you should do. The food is amazing, and be sure to try the Basil Margarita!
Food was very good. Service was quick and friendly. Nice place to catch lunch or dinner.
I always go to South when I'm in Leavenworth and it consistently has wonderful food, great margaritas, and friendly service!
We were disappointed with South from the first moment when the host tried to seat us next to a crowded waiter station when we had an Open Table reservation in a nearly empty restaurant. That's marginal, but the crusty look that followed was not acceptable. Next, what kind of mid level Mexican restaurant does not provide complimentary chips and salsa? Then, it took multiple requests for drink refills. Despite all this, the food was quite good. If you are tired of brauts and schnitzel in Leavenworth, go. If not, wait to you see a Taco Bell. The service will be better.
As always the food and service was excellent. The drinks are always great too. If you want some great mexican food, this is the place to get it.
great food, interesting menu. definite yes. went with 4 kids 8-10 and they loved it. The service was delayed by a mistake in the kitchen. Not the servers fault? and they apologized and brought the kids free Shirely Temples. Probably not the usual thing. Adults food came out first which is a no-no with kids usually.
Probably Leavenworth's best restaurant.
We've eaten here on last 2 visits to Leavenworth and brought 4 others on last trip over Memorial Day. We enjoy the atmosphere and the fact the menu extends beyond Mexican fare to include other southern hemisphere flavors. Only place in Leavenworth to get a pisco sour!
This was a decent dinner for adults - especially nice when you don't feel like another German meal. While they had a kid's menu, our kids didn't like their food - hardly ate a bite.
This is by far our favorite place in Leavenworth! The food, drinks, and wait staff is always fantastic!!! Luv it!
We were promptly greeted by the host. He was very courteous & followed up with the busser to ensure a table was available immediately. Our server took quite awhile to greet us. She was nice & gave a great recommendation (ie the carne asada & a basil margarita). The food was delivered fast. Our glasses were consistantly filled and our check was delivered promptly. The place was full but the fluency of service seemed flawless. Nice to see a manager on the floor helping out. Overall a great first experience but a little on the pricey side considering chips/salsa are additional and the cost of the meal was high. I do take into consideration the fact I am from Wenatchee and many diners would be tourists.
Must try carne asada. Tender beef pieces.
Revolution shrimp burrito was a special blend of cheese and prawns. I never knew the two mixed together would taste so well.
Their flour tortilla actually tastes like tortilla... not like bread. I know corn flour is the true tortilla, but these flour ones are still pretty good.
The only thing was that the server was a bit overwhelming (a bit pushy with drinks) and dining as a group of 6, my food came moderately warm, but not sizzling hot. (I ordered take out the next day and it was so much better hot!)
Really great food if you stick to what they are great at. i.e. the flavorful carne asada, and their more specialty dishes with interesting ingredients. But leave the usual mexican fare such as fajitas to the typical mexican restaurants or you may be disappointed for the price. Their interesting flavorful drinks are a must try. Live music on Fridays is great but gets pretty loud. Outside dining is perfect for summer.
One of our favorite restaurants, the food is great and so is the atmosphere.
We booked South as we were going to be in town for Cinco de mayo and it was an inpsired choice, the food was excellent (the salsa bar is the best) and the fresh taco chips were as good as advertised. The service was very friendly even give nthe packed out nature of the night. Try the Sangria!!
Best restaurant in Leavenworth.
Never miss their basil margaritas when in town. Excellent choices. Quality food.
South is the perfect alternative to the plethora of German restaurants in the Bavarian village of Leavenworth, serving up delicious Latin food in a fun, hip atmosphere. Both meat-lovers and vegetarians will be pleased by the many menu options (the carnitas plate was delish and plentiful), and the unique cocktails can compete with any city lounge. Add in the friendly, fast service and great atmosphere and South is now our favorite Leavenworth eatery. Also cool that they offer free wi-fi and serve breakfast, lunch and dinner.
I was disappointed with South, after reading so many good reviews. The quacamole lacked cilantro and I prefer corn tortilla chips over their flour. The rice was a strange flavor and was luke warm when it arrived. The steak faiths were average. My son's seafood enchiladas were pretty good though. Overall not what it was hyped up to be.
We just bought a condo in Leavenworth, and are very pleased to find this Gem! I had the ease of making reservations for a Saturday night for two at 6:30, no problem. We waltzed in at 6:27 and were taken directly to our table. I was intregued by the other reviews, and was excited to try the basil marguarita and the Big, wet, burrito... it was just as I'd hoped... the marguarita was wonderful, the guacamole was very good with the warm crispy, flour tortillas... and yes, we shared the burrito! Neither of us could have finished one by ourselves. It's my new favorite in Leavenworth.
