It was pretty expensive but the food quality was very good
We arrived only to be told that the restaurant no longer Participated in OpenTable reservation system
we had a reservation for 10 that was confirmed by OpenTable
the restaurant reluctantly gave us two tables of five close to each other but was unable to accommodate anything else
the service at one table was barely adequate but the service at the second table which was the same server was awful
they were 30 minutes behind in their entrée delivery
Overall it was a awful dining experience and we will never go back to that restaurant
They don’t let you know ahead of time if there’s a cover and we for there to $25 cover.
Our party included 7 people from Alabama. They all thought the food was excellent! Great elevated Southern cuisine. The restaurant was also really accommodating in pushing back our reservation twice due to flight delays in our party. The ambiance and service were excellent. We had a great time!
This restaurant has a fun and upbeat atmosphere. The manager Mark came to our table and introduced himself and took our order. The only thing I would say negative about this place is that I had no idea that the Jazz portion of the restaurant was a separate charge. If you do not purchase this in advance you can not enjoy the show that is right in front of you.
The only downfall was not getting a response from their staff about planning my event HOWEVER despite not having a discussion with them, they accomodated 11 of us. The food and service were great!
Seriously delicious fried chicken! Also, everything on their bread board was to die for. Lots of personal attention (I think four different people asked us if our meal was to our liking). We will be back!
Everything was delicious. The fried catfish, Branzino and the fried chicken....superb! Me and my dining mates were in a food coma. The starters of the Mac and Cheese and fried green tomatoes.....ommmggg! Such a great meal and I'll be back!
Delicious food, great portion sizes. The pre-set menu for before shows at the MET was fantastic and was perfectly timed for us to get to our show on time. Crab toast, cheese and crackers, shrimp and grits, fried chicken, and beignets are highly recommended! Will be back! Atmosphere is beautiful as well.
Excellent food and ambiance! Great place to dine before or after a show at The Met.
Our waiter was excellent. However, after ordering we waited over an hour for our food. The restaurant seemed overwhelmed by the large crowd who showed up to eat.
Service was slow. They should have been prepared for the crowd due to Tyler Perry being in town. Had a reservation and wasn’t seated until 30 minutes after reservation time. Our server barely checked on us. I was wishing 2 of the other servers were waiting on us because they were around all the time with their tables. I habe been to South in several other occasions and the service was great. I just think our server was overwhelmed. The bar was EXTREMELY SLOW making the drinks.
I have to say the food was delicious!! We all cleaned our plates. I had the special of the evening... Duck with rainbow carrots and an oyster mushroom bread pudding (tasted like a high end stuffing). Others at the table had fried chicken (may be the best I’ve ever tasted) and salmon which was so tender and that cabbage was to die for! South we’ll always support you. See you next time!!
The best in a long time
Food and service was great! Was able to get served and was done in plenty of time to make it to the play at the Met! Will definitely be back!
Food and service excellent. I will come back again.
Wonderful experience for put of towners
Amazing establishment! The apple pie french toast was life altering! We will definitely be back.
A wonderful “after show” meal. First time visit was outstanding!
This restaurant was recommended by a complete stranger at the hotel I was staying. It was definately just as good as she said. The food was great, the service was great. The total experience was great.
We enjoyed the food, service and the atmosphere. We’ll definitely be back soon!
One of my best dining experiences ever. We had the shrimp and grits, deviled eggs and fried green tomatoes. The food was exceptional! The jazz music was very nice and set in an intament and classy atmosphere. The resteraunt is very beautiful and was designed by someone with great taste and creativity. My only negative comment is that my dates food arrived very late after my meal was served; but we were happy anyway because we shared and the food was perfect. I would love to come back to South again.
Visited on Friday, March 22. The main dining room ambiance and service was great. The food was tasty and servings were plentiful. It would be great if more than one vegan option were included.
Two of us went for the jazz performance and got great seats in the club area and the show was wonderful! The hostesses may want to ask patrons if they have show tickets. It was our first visit and we didn’t know we could have dined in that area.
Finally and unfortunately, the waitress who served our table was rude. We didn’t get her name, but one side of her head is shaved and the other has local. When advised that my wine glass was dirty, she snatched it out of my hand. Additionally, the wait to get my wine was 20 minutes. I ended up having to speak with the manager and he brought my wine. Management may wish to keep a closer eye on the quality and timelines of service in the lounge.
Overall, we enjoyed ourselves and will return.
I was there before a show at the Matt, and the food wasn’t horrible, it just wasn’t very well seasoned. I had the south Cesar, which came with fried green tomatoes that were very bland, and then the fried chicken, which was over breaded. The staff was very friendly.
It was my first time with my boyfriend and I must say.....so glad we went. The server was great, the food was AMAZING. I will definitely be back. The only thing is that the sangria was not the best. They need to revamp that.
Overall, food, service, ambiance very good, as usual. Waited too long for drinks after ordering them.
This place was awesome!! I’m definitely coming back.
Nice place for a date night with a beautiful ambiance with music and food
I introduced my cousin who was visiting Philly from California to South Kitchen. I knew he would enjoy it. He raved about the restaurant & entertainment and hopes to return there again!
Everything was great. The staff was friendly & knowledgable. We were in a hurry because we were going to a show at The Met (walking distance) so we asked for quick service & they accommodate our needs. I would highly recommend this restaurant & look forward to going back.
This was an amazing experience! I’ve only really been introduced to “southern soul food” in the last 2 years and South did NOT disappoint. Every dish was delicious - both presentation and taste delighted me so much! Service was impeccable. Ambiance was just right- the interior of the restaurant is gorgeous and the music was perfect. Overall an incredible dining experience- definitely will come again and have already recommended to many friends. Thank you!
Awesome food and great time
Love everything except more food to order and table to small to accommodate.
Birthday. It was great food and service
Always have a great time, tweaking the way seating is done would help add to a great time.
We arrived late and they still sat us down with a reasonable wait time. We were on a time crunch because we had a concert to attend in which our server already knew about and got us out the door in time. Fantastic service and great staff all around.
Food was also amazing, the quantity and quality is great! I am definitely coming back!
South was awesomely outstanding. I went because my date had a birthday and I wanted to take her somewhere nice. With that being said, she had a blast and she and I will be coming back in the future.
Second time at the restaurant. Great time. Great food.
The server was inexperienced and his timing was way off. Brought our entree while still working on appetizer and tried to clear it. Tried to clear our dessert before we were done.
Foods here were absolutely delicious! The spicy chips beside the cajun shrimps was awesome. The Branzino was great with blackened skin, but the fish meat was still juicy. Jerk chicken was not as spicy as I thought. The coconut rice was soft and tasted a little bit sweet, coordinated with the salty chicken breast.
Also the service was great.
Great service from our waiter named Guy. Awesome experience!
