This place has become my new favorite restaurant. The food is phenomenal and authentic. The ambiance is great and the service is outstanding!
I took my husband there for his birthday, we loved the food, ambiance, and live music!
Amazing atmosphere. Great service & food. Pricing is reasonable as well.
This place was great! The food was on point, the music was on point, and the service was exceptional! Anyone who stumbles across this gem should not think twice and make a reservation. You won't regret it.
Great Show on Thursday, October 11th with Pablo Batista and Conrad Herwig!!
A truly memorable experience.
We were there to show love/support for jazz artist Raimundo Santos.
As a Philadelphia musician the ambiance and the music was great. But the food and drink experience was a little different of an experience, with a name like South I think most people like myself was expecting a soul food menu as well as a general drink selection like Bud Miller Samuel Addams. But overall it was a good night out !!
Had a reservation for 9:00 on a Saturday night ( sounds like a song) , we had about a 15 minute wait at the bar in which time the bartender could not get 4 drinks together (?) When we sat and out 5th diner ordered the special drink from the menu we were told they were out of it!
When we say we were given restaurant week menus, and we had NO IDEA it was restaurant week. When I called to make the reservation, no one said! We were not able to order from the regular menu!
The menu offerings were wonderful!
We sat for about 15 minutes until someone came to our table, the service was very slow. It seemed that there was a party in the back room and everyone was tending to that party !
The food was great! I would go back an hope for better service!
Wonderful intimate setting for an evening of live music. I can't wait to return.
Restaurant week menu was not what was shown online, food portions were very small for the price. Better off going not during restaurant week
I went during restaurant week and to celebrate a friend's birthday. The food was good but the portions were really small. I know you can't expect much for a $35 3 course meal but in my experience with restaurant week other the portions at other restaurants were reasonable. We were still hungry and felt like we ate a bunch of appetizers. Again the food was good just the portions were small. I would go back to experience a regular dinner size portion.
Came out for restaurant week to meet up with some friends I haven’t seen in a few months and catch up. While the food was really good here, I didn’t have an overall good dining experience. Our server was overbearing, seemed completely unhappy to be there, and rushed us a lot. She constantly hovered when we were trying to make or drink and food decisions, pressuring us to be ready. I was still eating part of dinner and not all plates had been cleared when the dessert came out. Also, she removed the dessert plate from my friend when she STILL HAD FOOD IN HER MOUTH. Brought the check without asking and checked it twice before we had even touched it. We came relatively early for dinner (5:30 reservation), and the entire time at least half the dining room was empty, so there was no need for the rush.
I wasn’t to pleased with the portion sizes for the Pre-Fixed Menu for Reaturant Wk, it was my husband’s birthday he said the fios was good but still hungry. I’ve been here before on several occasy& explained to him we have to come back during regular menu options. My previous visits were amazing. I wouldn’t recommend anyone to eat here during restaurant week
The food was amazing and I would recommend it to anyone that loves Southern with a touch of Class.
Tried this place for Restaurant Week with a few friends...food was awesome! Will return!
Fish was paper thin. They were out of two of the drinks I requested and wasn't given a recommendation or anything to help resolve that. Expected more from the corn bread being a southern restaurant. Brussels had a weird taste and broccoli was all stem... Won't be back, don't recommend.
Went to South for restaurant week and was very disappointed by the portion of my meal and when the bill came the gratuity was included at a set rate and we were charged for items we did not request.
This is my fourth trip to this restaurant. I invited some family members to join me based on prior dining experiences. This trip left me disappointed and embarrassed after talking so highly of the restaurant. The service was awful and some of the items on the restaurant week menu weren't available. They didn't even bother to inform us of this when handing us the menus. I am hesitant about returning after this last experience.
Pro Tip: Of course book in advance.
My friends and I were heading back to DC when we stumbled upon this place. It also happened to be Restaurant Week.
It. Was. Amazing.
Wonderful customer service, with them accommodating our extra luggage.
Our server was friendly and worked hard to please everyone. He went above and beyond.
You MUST have the cornbread with cream cheese honey butter.
Food was hot, delicious and pleased everyone.
Great ambiance. Great music.
Delightful atmosphere. Delicious food!
I came into Philadelphia with a friend from out of town specifically to go to this restaurant based on the reviews in magazines for her birthday. I was never told it was restaurant week when I reserved and was very disappointed to discover this when we got to the restaurant. Many of the items we were really looking forward to were not offered on the special menu (buttermilk fried chicken, collard greens, etc.) and ordering off the standard menu was not an option. We would not have come if we knew it was restaurant week.
We were also asked to move to another table once we were seated to accommodate another party. It's really wasn't a problem, but at nicer restaurants usually a complimentary drink or appetizer is offered to compensate for the disruption.
Friend friend (from the South) ordered the shrimp and grits. The grits were quite bland.
Finally, the dessert did not live up to expectations. We were supposed to get hummingbird cake and a banana dessert. Instead we got a small piece (about the size of a half dollar) of key lime pie and small piece of what seemed like banana bread. The flavors of both were disappointing.
The ambiance is excellent and the waiter was very good.
I went for Restaurant Week and I took my mother, I was given counter seating but I was then accommodated to lounge seating. The food was excellent the waitress was very nice and knowledgeable. The seating area was just to dark.
Food was great. Portions small but still enjoyable.
Our waiter was extremely great, and the food was very good, but I can genuinely say I don’t know if we will go back.
We arrived to the restaurant early for our reservation to get a drink and the hostess told us we could be seated if we wanted. We opted to get a drink at the bar and wait, since that’s what we had planned to do. When we were at the bar we were told the restaurant week menu was the only menu available, which was a let down. Not only did they not have most of their southern dishes on the restaurant week menu, but it wasn’t stated before making the reservation that the restaurant week menu was the only option for this week.
After we are finished our drinks, we go back to the hostess and she tells us the only seats she now has available is at the bar, even though we had a reservation. Had another person not come over to say they could seat us at a table we had selected in the reservation, I could honestly say we would have walked out. There was empty tables for everyone to see. We waited until our reservation time. She tried to tell us that they tend to over book, and that it happens all the time.
I understand they are a busy restaurant and the food was extremely good, but everything leading up to being seated was not something that makes me want to go back.
We went for Restaurant Week. I did not think the amount of food was worth $35, nor was the drink we ordered worth $13. I could have purchased a whole Rainbow Trout with all courses included for less than that. When I eat at a restaurant and feel I could have made a much better meal for myself at home for much less, it makes for a bad experience.
I was tbere for a hour and 38 minutes and all we had to eat was water tben some nasty bread. The drinks were so and not strong. It was very unorganized but the jazz was great.
We made a reservation for 7pm and arrived on time but our table was not ready. We had to wait at least 10-15mins to get a table. We sat in the Jazz parlor which is $10 extra per person. The space in the jazz parlor is tight , dimly lit area with small stage for the band. Our server was not very pleasant and had a bit of an attitude. The restaurant was participating in restaurant week so we had a limited menu. The food was mediocre but the band was great.
We went for Restaurant Week. The food was excellent - definitely "high end" Southern food. The service was excellent as well, and we were also asked by a manager if we were happy with everything (we were). It does get noisy in there because most of the surfaces are hard ones, so the sound bounces off of everywhere. We will definitely go back!
Good food and service.
Very nice for my wife and I anniversary thank you very much
Catfish... shrimp and grits... amazing. Service was impeccable down to the manager whom came around and checked each and every table.
Great experience, great food, great ambience!
it was so loud like a cafeteria we had to tell to hear each other. Our waitress was ok but could have been better. I ordered the buttermilk fried chicken and it look dark as if it was cooked in old grease and the skin was soggy . I did not like it so they did give me another entree. We drove around the block twice looking for the valet because he was not visible and the tables are too small. I also did not the payment method. it was a hand held machine , not even giving a real bill to pay cash, and they had predicted top options already locked in. It was my mans birthday and he was not impressed and it didnt even get a mention considering I put it in our reservation.
We wanted to go out & enjoy a good meal on a Friday night after a long week. Always a wonderful experience.
Excellent service. Food was very good. Pricing matched the value.
Excellent restaurant great food! Good service very cordial.Menu tasting with fair price. It has a la carte options. Good wine list. Next to the restaurant is the Jazz Parlou; great option for listening blues and jazz. Only with reservation. I recommend.
First visit and it was phenomenal. Greeting at the front door to the waitress and The food was so tasty. Kudos to the chef. Management came around and asked if everything was ok which to us shows care and concern about there customers. The employees seem to love working there. They are all well trained. Awesome experience. Looking forward to returning
Service was not good, every step of our meal took far too long and we had a difficult time getting any attention from the wait staff, and we had to ask for everything (e.g., plates and serving spoons for our appetizers, plates for a family-style entree)
Love this place. Beautiful ambiance that has a southern home feel to it. Great creative dishes and excellent service! I frequent this spot quite a bit.
South is always amazing. The food is top notch, the staff is warm and friendly. The managers will come up to the table and ensure that everything is to your liking. The portions are huge! Try the fried chicken!
