great place for a nice and cozy french bistro - type dinner. consistently good.
after 30 years the chef owner is retiring. It was a good run. Thank you chef.
This was a special anniversary dinner for my girlfriend Kaleigh and I.
Great food and wine, unfortunately the place is closing so this was our last dinner there.
Really busy and loud that night ...
We'll miss it.
Fabulous! Wish I could go back. Unfortunately, South Park Cafe is closing for good Sept 22 17
Wonderful food & service. Will return again & again.
As always amazing food and a great time. My daughter and husband ordered the lamb, again, they love it. This is a place where you will find local residents. When the cook goes on vacation, the place closes. I usually order fish, so far so good..well very good! It is a great hide-away. The service has always been exceptional, and the waitress is very friendly.
I felt so bad for the wait staff and patrons, the restaurant was really stuffy and hot due to the weather.
The food was very good but it was so hot in there that it was hard to eat more than a few bites.
The table next to us were so excited when the wine bottle was taken away and they could submerse their hands in the icey cold water that was left in the wine cooler. We wished we'd ordered a bottle of wine too! Lol
We met old friends for an early weekday dinner after a Giants' day game. We hadn't eaten there in at least ten years, but the food and service was just as good if not better than we remembered. The menu had interesting choices, good sized portions and seasonal ingredients that were well prepared. The service was attentive, but our server left us alone so that we could interact without being interrupted. The noise level was quiet enough for 4 old friends to actually have a conversation. A welcome change from most casual dining experiences in SF these days.
Just Excellent. Would suggest this restaurant to anyone looking to enjoy a delicious meal with a wonderful ambiance.
Food was mixed, some quite good, some just ok. Extraordinary berry dessert in zaballione cream, though.
My rack of lamb had a salty pesto-like sauce beneath which was an interesting, inventive touch. Lovely dinner with my mom. This place is the definition of neighborhood gem.
local community
We have enjoyed South Park Cafe for decades...our latest meal reminded us why this is our absolute favorite French Bistro in SF. The prix fixe is always the way to go, we started with the Cod Cakes and Beef Tongue both being delightful. We followed with the Lamb and Sea Char which were superb. Our desserts were the Profiteroles and the house Sorbet, Melon. Every meal at South Park is well thought out, perfectly prepared and with the friendly wait staff serving so we are always feeling well cared for. Merci South Park!
Great dinner. Great bistro style restaurant. Chatting host/owner
We arrived an hour late because I misread reservation time. They sat us anyway and we had a wonderful meal. This is one of those neighborhood places you'd go back to because of the good food, great cocktails and wine, great relaxed atmosphere.
This is our favorite neighborhood restaurant. Always excellent food and wonderful staff.
Wonderful food. Need a full bar and cocktail menu.
I always have a wonderful dining experience at South Park.
Very pleasant dining experience for our group. Pleasant server and good food choices.
I never leave bad reviews, but the sea bass was overcooked and bland, the server came across as passive aggressive and steered us wrong, and it was too noisy to have a good conversation. The pig salad was excellent though.
Delightful return to South Park Cafe after several years of absence. Wonderful ambiance, great French comfort food and impeccable not-in-your-face and very knowledgeable service. We enjoyed a leisurely delicious meal on a Friday evening that was a kick-off to a fabulous weekend! Glad to know good, affordable French food is still around in SF!!
I've never had anything less than a wonderful meal at this restaurant. The service is friendly without being overbearing. The au gratin potatoes are without peer. The fish is perfectly prepared. Take your choice of first courses and you can't go wrong. It feels like a bistro in France. South Park is a refuge in the developing South of Market area, and will charm the pants off of anyone. The value of the food is spectacular. Two people can dine exquisitely with wine or drinks for well under $150 including tip. The wait staff earns its tips with seamless, superb service. This is one of the gems of the City. i highly recommend it.
Wonder food. Complex ingredient in sauces. Overall a great experience. Will definitely return.
Was offered a gift certificate and hadn't been to SPC for many, many years. Invited a friend to celebrate his birthday and we both very much enjoyed the experience. Perfect service, delicious food. Would definitely recommend. This is the kind of neighborhood restaurant that makes SF what it is (and hopefully) remains!
All food ordered exceeded expectations in terms of flavor, taste. Worth the $ spent. Will definitely go again!
I returned here after having been away for several years and found its food better than ever. A consistently interesting French bistro menu, quiet space, and attentive service. I will definitely be back often.
everybody nice, feeling home or your private dinning room
Pleasant neighbourhood restaurant serving well executed French classics.
Amazing food. This is my second time here and I chose to go on my anniversary and my birthday!!
I dine at South Park Cafe at least twice a year. I can't say I've tried everything because my favorite Pork Salad and Rack of Lamb almost always end up on my plate. But my companions say bisteak frites and beef en daube are great and fish consumed here is also top shelf. Service is professional but not obsequious and cocktails are good. I like the wine list and love that I can order Calvados here. A true French Bistro with fair prices and class A food and service. Enjoy
My wife and I have been here twice, and I'm sure it will get added to the "rotation" of our favorite SF restaurants. It is small and quiet and the food and service are both very good. I ordered the same thing both times. The "Pig" Salad and a steak. The Pig Salad is a frisee with apples, a seriously mustardy dressing, and crispy pork confit. Oh, yes, it is delicious. Healthy? Probably not. But I will agree to Cottage Cheese and Rice Cakes on Tuesday if I can have a Pig Salad today. There are healthy options on the menu, too. Or so I am told. The prices are also very reasonable.
Consistently good menu and food. Friendly, helpful staff in a comfortable setting. One of the most reliable restaurants in the city
This is our "go-to" restaurant for any get together with friends in SF. Not only is the location perfect for connecting with visitors who are staying in the union square/Moscone area since it's an easy BART connect for us and a casual walk for them, but also we're guaranteed a chance to converse in normal conversational levels--nearly unheard of inSF restaurants. We love the food, the service, the accommodations (hearing loss and food allergies), the nice selection of French and local wines, the optional fixed price menu, the yummy desserts and the delightful South Park neighborhood, where parking can be found! There was a nice variety of vegetarian appetizers, but the only downside is vegetarians may be disappointed in the entre selection. My friend's dinner (only one choice) was neither colorful nor creative, I thought. She didn't complain, so I suspect the flavors were pleasing. As a final note, I managed to screw up my reservation time and they graciously accommodated my mistake. We'll be back!
Great service, Prix option is a great value. Food quality was great. We were early (530pm) for a business meal so the crowds had not picked up yet. Will definitely be back.
We've been to south park a few times and will continue to have dinner after the theater here.
Our meal was superb! The pork belly was the best we've had in years. It was flavorful yet very lean, no visible fat. The pan seared halibut was cooked to perfection with a wonderful medley of asparagus, peas and fava beans.
The only downside was the sound volume. It was so loud, it was hard to converse.
Great restaurant, great food and great, long-serving staff. We don't go out often, but South Park is always a sure bet for a wonderful evening with friends.
Always reliably good
Our favorite restaurant for many years. A short walk from SFMOMA and Yerba Buena.
We went to South Park for my birthday. I love French food and this restaurant didn't disappoint. It was excellent: the food, the service, the ambience. Loved the pre fixe menu. Everything was very enjoyable.
