A bit quirky, but fabulous food. What does that mean? Well, the food is quite high end and very reasonably priced. The ambiance just does not match up. Wooden tables and benches that are not terribly comfortable. The decor is just down right laid back for the type of food served. I suspect that business would be much better if the two matched up. A fancy meal just needs a little ambience IMHO. With that said , I would certainly recommend the restaurant. The food was just outstanding! Try it you’ll love it!!
Great food as always. Great service and atmosphere to spend time with friends. Always one of my go to spots when taking out of towners to eat some great local food.
Very good service and food!
Second trip in last three weeks. Has not disappointed.
My reservation was for six people. When we arrived at SOMA, they had reserved a table for two for us. The greeter/host gave the appearance with being irritated and even said, "Your reservation is for two." When I gave my name and the number in the party. He tried to seat us at a table for six in the back. The whole point of being at SOMA was to listen to the UCA Jazz Ensemble and hear a colleague sing. We requested a different table. Again, the host/greeter was visibly irritated with us. After consulting with another staff member (who was also irritated) we were put at a four-top with two chairs on either end. We worked very hard to be appreciative of their efforts. Eventually, we were moved to a booth. It was the perfect spot. Our service was slow and the greeter/host who initially met us was our server. He never smiled. He rarely checked on us. The music was great! The food was very good. The host/greeter/server does not have the skill set to be a host/greeter/server. I'm sure he has other great skills but he has no soft skills.
I have been here a few times for various concerts. All the shows have been amazing. The food, on the other hand is decent. Not a lot to choose from for a finicky palate. And the prices are a little extreme for no more than what I received. I ended up having to stop on my way home to get food.
LOVE this place!!! the food is SO good and the drinks are legit!
Overall it was a good experience. I was there for a quick lunch on a Friday. I had the catfish poboy platter. Everything was good except the bread. It was so hard I couldn't eat it:( The fish and fries were good though. Service was excellent.
The ambiance and music is why I enjoy South on Main. The musician on the night I attended had everyone out of their seats dancing. It was great! He was talented, entertaining and not afraid of the truth. It was obvious that the hostess seated primarily most of the whites on one side and front of the stage and all of the black on the other side and back of the stage. We noticed but he called it out and asked for unity. Hugs for everyone!
The food is good at this location. I had a steak that was a little undercooked so it was difficult to cut and my mouth had to work overtime to chew. I wish there were a few more of the tasty veggies on my plate because it seemed more like a garnish than a side. The wait staff was pleasant and gave a good suggestion for the wine.
I am glad I reserved a table for this fun evening!
In the past, SOM was one of my go-to restaurants. I'd bring out of towners, plan date nights, or just generally look forward to heading there. The service has always been slow, but I've never really minded. It's a place to linger. But my last experience was pretty disappointing. The service was slow, as usual, but the quality of the food didn't make up for it. I would say all of our dishes were mediocre; nothing stood out. Even the pimiento dip has lost some of its luster. The crawfish mac'n cheese was under-seasoned, my trout was served with floppy, oily skin (not sure why it was left on?) on to of over-seasoned grits. The chicken spaghetti was great and the rabbit special was good as well. It was pretty empty and we were a party of 5 crammed into one of the u-shaped tables (we had a reservation). Fortunately our fifth didn't show, or we would literally be shoulder to shoulder and very uncomfortable. It was kind of uncomfortable with just the four of us. I don't write many reviews, but wanted to let y'all know because I don't want this place to go downhill!! It's still a wonderful venue with a wonderful chef, but for the moment, I will not be going back.
As always SoM was an incredible dining experience with interesting menu choices and a valuable happy hour menu. Our friends gathered and tried several appetizers that were all equally delicious, including Sausage & Egg, Buttered Shrimp, and Biscuits. Everyone enjoyed his/her main course as well. I had the Roasted Duck which was amazing! I of course added a side of greens because they’re so delicious. We had great service and the atmosphere of this restaurant is eclectic yet relaxing. I love this place and its one of the best restaurants in Little Rock! Do yourself a favor and check it out!
Interesting menu for drinks and dinner. Great service, attentive and knowledgeable. Delicious entrees with attractive presentation. Great choice.
Love food uniqueness! Tasted great!
South on Main is my favorite eatery in Little Rock. Matt and Amy Bell and the rest of the staff never disappoint. Tonight was my first time with Chef Bell’s all-vegan menu. The quality of my meal surpasses my ability to express in words.
As always, a delightful time! Food original and well prepared and presented! Love our neighborhood restaurant!!
Fantastic night at SOM. Service was great and the food was exceptional. It’s been a little bit since I had been to SOM for a full sit down dinner and they did not disappoint. They also got us in and out to be at our event at Robinson with plenty of time.
A wonderful diner with superbly cooked dishes. Having a early reservation (5pm) meant that we got there as they were opening up. That led to issues with a lost appetizer, but it served as a good side dish to the entrees anyways.
South on Main is one of our favorites; we love the SoMa district so much and South on Main is one of it's jewels. Chef Bell and Amy are so wonderful, as is the entire staff - we love the chill feel of the place and the food and cocktails are just spot on (also, live music shows!). Highly recommend for lunch, brunch, happy hour, dinner and/or any special occasion!
Fantastic food. Wish I could say the same about the service. Been multiple times and the wait staff just don't seem to care.
We love South on Main! Number of items on menu = perfect. Variety on menu = perfect. Portion size = perfect. Cocktails = perfect. Chris (one of the many fine servers) = Always amazing.
When I'm hosting someone from out-of-town and they ask for me to take them to the quintessential Little Rock restaurant, I take them to SOM. This is Southern food at its finest: elevated but unpretentious. Our food was fantastic, as per usual, and the service was attentive and knowledgeable. Our server Zach was even able to recommend a wine to pair with my uncle's dish.
I would say I'm surprised at how satisfied I am after dining at SOM, but every experience I've had there exceeds the previous one. Get thee to this restaurant! Don't miss out.
We have enjoyed many meals at South on Main, but the service the last two times has been extremely poor. We went Friday night and wondered why it was not crowded. Two of our three entrees at the table were delicious - as usual. The third (ribs) were overcooked and extremely dry. In the end, they comped the ribs. The biggest complaint revolves around service. When we checked in for our reservation, we were told they had another reservation at our table in 2 hours. We were planning to be gone by then, but it was off-putting to be told that as we arrived. Our waiter was either new or very distracted - we had to hunt him down - and he never returned to check on the meals or drink reorders. We reordered drinks from someone else (that we flagged down, who was nice, and apologetic for the service - but blamed much of it on them only having 1 bartender). Our last experience was with a different waiter, and since service had been good in the past, we thought it was a fluke. Unfortunately, the great food does not compensate for the poor service.
My food was pretty good this time. The Eye of Ribeye was alright but nothing special. I actually
enjoyed the hashbrown more than the steak. Our Server was pretty good, although we did have
one or two long spells without being checked on. The Cocktails are always the highlight at South On Main for me. Acoustically, South On Main is outstanding for Live Music. The worst part about going to South On Main at night is the aggressive panhandlers at night that can make one feel a bit threatened and unsafe. That is reason alone for me to not go down there, or only stick to Lunch visits.
Went with some friends to hear the Brian Nahlen Band. We had a great time. The staff was attentive despite being very busy. The food was tasty; I especially liked the smoked cauliflower appetizer.
When it's good, it's SO GOOD. My favorite restaurant in town. My only complaints are that sometimes the dishes lack salt in a major way, and the portions of some dishes are super small (not all of them- it's a mixed bag, so it's hard to assume when you can order an app for a meal or if you'll be going through the drive-thru on your way home from a fun meal out with friends). ;) Overall the ambiance and service and food are so so good, but I wish I could count on it 100% of the time.
The food is great as is the table service. However every time we go there the bar is super slow. It seems to take forever to get the bar order. Otherwise it is a really neat spot for dinner.
Our dinners were both very delicious. I had the sea bass which was prepared perfectly and my husband had the special of the night which was a pork shank which was also very delicious! We thought the price of the pork was a little high over $30 and when the special was told to us the price wasn't given. The restaurant at 5:30 was empty except for 1 other couple which surprised me from all the reviews I had read I thought the place would be mobbed. Perhaps everyone was waiting for the concert happening at 9:30. I would go back.
Biscuits not biscuits and very dry or stale. Waiter forgot them. Pork and chicken both had same rubbery texture. Overpriced food. More of a bar vibe than nice dining. Sorry, didn’t like this place at all. Will not return.
Have a great time. The live music was amazing. They had a local jazz band. I am officially a Trap Jazz fan. If only I could get one of those t-shirts???? But awesome awesome awesome!!!! I would come everyday for the chicken fried cauliflower and Trap Jazz!!!!!!!!
Always good. A regular visit for us when in Little Rock.
Our table was given a mix of old and new menus. After that was corrected, we ordered drinks from the cocktail menu. Our waiter came back and said they did not have the ingredients for one of the drinks. Upon ordering our entrees, the waiter came back and told us they were out of 2 of the meals we ordered.
Great experience. Was a very quiet night, we assumed because it was election night. The server did a good job, didn’t go “above and beyond” but that’s not a bad thing at all. Food and drinks were excellent.
Food was good; service was barely passable. Fried green tomatoes were out of season but they still had them on the menu. They suggested the “trotters” instead which were super tasty and comes recommended. My husband got their Caesar salad, which was a little heavy in mayo. I ordered an old fashioned which took probably 20 minutes to come out. I had to ask our server about it; his excuse was they only had one bar tender. But you would think he would have told me that up front or at least updated me about it. My husband had the ribeye; said it was good but not great. I had the sesame catfish, which was pretty yum. We split the chocolate cake; bittersweet with some melted chocolate on top instead of icing. Really good and one of the highlights of the meal.
Nice quiet place, decent menu. Service was outstanding. The food (duck breast) was cooked to perfection, which speaks highly of the chefs abilities.
I would really recommend going. Our waiter was excellent and the food was so delicious.
This place does not disappoint. The food is awesome and the atmosphere even better
Amazing food! Amazing service! Amazing night!!
We visited on a Friday evening for a birthday dinner and had the oyster appetizer, which was spicy and delicious. I had the catfish and grits stick, and my partner had the ribeye - both were thoughtfully prepared and really great. We finished with the chocolate cake for dessert and it was a perfect choice. Everything was graciously presented by our waiter, Chris, who added to the enjoyment of our visit. We were a bit distracted by the musicians setting up to provide live entertainment a bit later, but since we're not fans of live popular music in a dinner setting, we left before they began.
Excellent service. Very creative menu that changes with the seasons. Cocktails menu is full of unique selections and always fun. We have never been disappointed with our choices.
