We went to South Main to celebrate my wife’s birthday. Our entire experience was fantastic from our server to food to atmosphere and dessert!
Good for business and special occasion meals.
Had a 7:45 reservation. Didn’t get seated until 8:20. There were 4 of us and they added a 20% gratuity to our bill automatically.
Never heard of that for 4 people. Service was average
Problems w/reservation as actually seating was close to an hour later than the time we reserved. Was comped a bit for the delay. Once seated the service and food was outstanding.
Portions are small and not a great value for the price. Server was excellent and took great care of us. Music was a little loud and made it difficult to have conversations at dinner. Desserts were excellent.
Very nice setting and great food
We’ve never been there before but we were happy with our selections. We had the trout and the hanger steak with fries it was very good. They had a nice selection of wines and cocktails. When we first arrived it wasn’t very crowded but by the time we left the place was full. It got a little loud but we could still have a pleasant conversation and hear each other. Nice cozy atmosphere.
The food and service from the wait staff were great.
We wanted to sit at the bar where there was light. No one was at the bar, and the hostess said of course, I’ll get my manger to move her coat and things. Well the manger never came to remove her things. While we just sat a few chairs over, the manager had taken over 3 chairs with her coffee and coat and backpack. The manger was there. We saw her chatting up the other employees.
This was not on par with the rest of the employees. It seemed odd to me that they were more professional.
While there are so many things I liked about this place. There are also other options in the area that look intriguing. I think I will try them before coming back. It left a bad impression to myself and my husband.
After making a 7:15 reservation through open table, we stood at the bar for over 40 minutes (checked with the hostess stand 3 times within those 40 minutes) only to then be seated at a table that had been open for at least 20 of those minutes. Very, very unimpressed with the manager on duty and host staff and the level of service. Also to note, however, is that our waitress was very attentive and kind.

What a delightful surprise. Had no expectations but was blown away by how great this food was. Loved it. Great service.
This was my first time going to SMK for brunch and everything was really good. I had the vegetable hash - it was tasty and filling (good portion size). My friend had the black skillet pancake and she said it was really yummy - like having a dessert for breakfast.

My boyfriend and I came here for our anniversary. The food was amazing. We had a ham and cheese plate which we basically licked clean and he had the osobuko and I had the springer mountain chicken. Both meals were fabulous. We decided to order the Mardi Gras cake for dessert. I’m from New Orleans and wanted to see how it compared. We asked for it to go. We sat and waited for over 30 minutes and it never came. Not only that, our waitress was nowhere to be found once we paid the bill. I double checked our bill to see if we had been charged for it and we had been. When we got up to leave the only people in the restaurant that seemed to be working were the busy bartenders. Paying for something we never got or even had a chance to tell someone what we got did not make us happy at all. It honestly dampened the experience

The food is amazing! Is very fresh, lots of local food, and tastes incredible! Unfortunately we made a reservation and were not seated until 45 minutes later so we were disappointed with that, but once we were actually seated the service was great and the food came very fast.
Unfortunately we had a poor experience at this restaurant. Service was slow- took 20 minutes to get a drink. The food was very small portions. For $34 I expect more than a 4 oz piece of Redfish and my husbands scallops was so salty he couldn't finish it. Friends ordered the Osso Buco and it is probably the best thing on the menu. I don't plan to return.
Made a reservation for 8:45pm and arrived by 8:15. Was advised they were running 30 min behind and the hostess said she would text when our name came up. The bar was packed so walked in the cold to have a drink nearby where there was no crowd. Headed back around 9:25 after not hearing from them. Was told another 30 min. Noticed a wait list with several names crossed off and asked what that was. Hostess said it was to keep track as people arrived. When I asked where my name was she said I wasn’t on that list. Doesn’t take a genius to figure out they were taking people in without a reservation. Spoke with another guest as we waited and he was having the same experience. We were seated an hour late and received our food reasonably quick and the food was excellent. My complaint is that this was a Friday AND Valentine’s Day so that requires a higher level of attention to get patrons in timely and close to reserved time. South Main Kitchen failed miserably for us.
The food was very good, as was the service once we were seated. However, we weren't seated until a full hour after our reservation time. They massively overbooked and many couples were crowded 3 deep around the relatively small bar bleeding into the table area and generally unhappy about the situation. Would give them another chance as hopefully a one off, but this situation was avoidable.
Valentine's day is a tough time to rate a restaurant but that is when we went. Arrived on time for the reservation and waited nearly an hour for our table. Bartender was great and drinks were good. I had the hanger steak which was amazing. My companion had the chicken and it was tasty but overcooked. Portions were small for the price. We passed on dessert.
Fantastic service and food! Staff went out of their way on a very busy night to make sure that we were happy. Can't wait to go back.
Valentines dinner with reservation at 6:30. Wasn’t seated until 7:20. It appeared like the entire restaurant was far overbooked

Celebrating work accomplishment
Always enjoy coming to SMK. It was the first nice restaurant in downtown Alpharetta a few years ago and there are many more from which to choose, but it is still among the best with high quality food and great mixed drinks.
If you go only to have the homemade moon pies, it's worth the trip! All the food is fresh and I've always had great service.
The food was good but service was poor...very slow. We had a reservation but still had to wait 25-30 min for a table to become available...not sure I understand the point of making a reservation. Slow service likely the reason the reservation system did not work well.
We arrived early for our reservation and were told there would be a 15 minute wait. After 20 minutes they offered us to sit on the patio (it is winter and they had heat lamps). While it was warm enough it was a loss of the indoor ambience and decor - as I was hosting guest I would have preferred to show them a more lively time. The food was still good as usual. My only gripe was that they didn’t adequately prepare for our reservation.
Fourth time at SMK. Food is always great and the Brussels Sprouts are spectacular!

Horrible service!!! I made a reservation for 7:15pm for a a group of friends celebrating a birthday. On the afternoon of the reservation, I received an automated email from Open Table telling me the reservation had been changed to 7:45pm. I didn’t see this email until about 6pm and I called the restaurant immediately. They told me there was a computer error and there was nothing they could do (basically blaming the Open Table app). We arrived at 7:45 and they couldn’t seat us....and couldn’t give us an estimated time for when we could be seated either. We waited for an hour and were finally seated at the table at 8:45pm. After being seated the service was still horrible. Our server was regularly MIA and when she returned, she smelled like fresh cigarette smoke. The only positive part of the dining experience was the bartender - she made excellent drinks and was very attentive to our group during our hour long wait. Would not recommend this restaurant and will not be going back! Plenty of other great options in the area that actually know how to run a restaurant properly.

We had a 7:15 reservation - arrived early at 6:30. We were told we couldn’t be seated early - then at 7:15 were told there were still 3 people in front of us to be seated. By 7:30 we ate at the bar. So much for that romantic anniversary dinner
The food was delicious! So were the drinks. I love the black walnut old fashioned! I look forward to dining here again.
Extremely loud restaurant. Also, very cold in winter. The cold air just rolls into dining area. I couldn’t take off my coat.
Food is eclectic southern. Greens, grits, bacon, Brussels, among others. The chicken was fantastic and the yamein was great as well. Deviled eggs wonderful, perfectly accented with the crispy bacon and hot sauce. Moon pie was, well, a moon pie. Nothing special to make it an $8 dessert. The rice pudding was very nice—no too sweet.
Ambience is great, but I find the chairs a bit uncomfortable. All fine but some of my enjoyment tempered by the noise and the cold air...
We will go again.
We went there for brunch. I remember a couple of years ago this place had the best brunch, the omelets used to be amazing. This time, however, food was very disappointing, basic, lack of flavor. There were many staff members hanging out and chatting to each other, but the service was slow and lacking attention. Not planning to go back there and would not recommend this place.
Great. Loved the meal and atmosphere!
It was a windy, rainy, and a little cold outside, but S. Main was the perfect place to escape it all and have a great meal with my wife. The Shrimp & Grits were excellent as well as the Pork Porterhouse. We will definitely return!
