The design combines the old with the new. Rustic hardware elements are set against reclaimed barn wood paneling, and light fixtures are antique in design, while utilizing a more contemporary flare. Beige Italian linen drapes are complimented by contrasting black tufted linen upholstered banquette seating. Oversized color prints of a misty countryside and farm animals are a nod to Chef’s sustainable food practices.
Another great meal at South End. My friend had eh short ribs special of the day. She said it was divine!
We called ahead, as we do with most establishments when dining with a wheelchair-bound companion...and were assured of their ADA compliance. We were not dissapointed with any aspect of the evening. Reception was friendly and knowledgable, our waiter was probably the most well informed waiter regarding the menu we’ve ever had (and professionally “fun”)...the $$ was not exhorbitant, the meal was delicious, the noise level quite low even though the restaurant had a fair amount of patrons. (If I might add, the steak was VERY tasty.) Drinks came quickly. We were able to catch our waiter’s eye almost as soon as we realized we needed help ( don’t you hate when they won’t even look at you?). Overall, a very pleaant evening with good friends.
Great venue for a casual night with friends. Would definitely retuen
Enjoyed a great meal and fantastic atmosphere for a business dinner.
A bit pricey but its was New Years
Let's see....how many fu*k ups were there.....The waiter got the water wrong (we asked for tap, but a bottle of sparkling came to the table), the waiter brought over the wrong bar drink for me (he brought over a mixed drink and I had ordered a wine), then when we agreed that I had ordered a Pinot Noir, he then brought me over a Pinot Grigio. Then they got my wife's appetizer wrong. The food was good, shockingly!
When the host asked If I needed another glass of wine, I thought for sure that he would comp it, considering all the fu*k ups, but, no. I was charged for it.
I purposely made a 5:30 New Year’s Eve reservation so we wouldn’t compete with a crowd or feel rushed, and I relished that I had scored a babysitter for the night. We arrived to an (understandably) empty restaurant, as it was so early, yet the host and manager were completely flummoxed over where to seat us, and met in a corner fussing about it, and said they were “completely booked.” I had to laugh, as yes, I was one of those bookings! And the restaurant was empty. We were finally seated, and then were completely rushed along and hovered over the entire time. The menu was a prix fixe and we also ordered oysters, thinking they would come first, as they normally do. Instead our appetizers were rushed out, and every five minutes asked if we were finished. Within 20 minutes, they cleared our plates, and while they were clearing, our waiter stood there holding our entrees. We hadn’t been sitting there for more than 25 minutes. Oysters never came, and our New Year’s Eve dinner was like a fast food experience. The restaurant was still mostly empty as we left! I was very annoyed, having hoped for this rare night out with a babysitter at home to be a leisurely and worthwhile celebration when our bill was OVER $250 for two of us, and only one cocktail and one glass of wine each (we weren’t given time for more, even if we’d wanted it). I won’t be back.
The salmon and chicken were delicious, and the service was excellent. We did go early, so it wasn't crowded.
Another great meal at South End. They have returned Cacio e pepe to the menu! I had the Branzino for the first time. It was fantastic! We will be back.
We absolutely love Ursula and come regularly. It is noisy around the bar area, but she is so amazing and the food is good. Wish they’d change it up a bit more often.
Good as always
Great food - definitely among the best in the area
Our waiter made the experience fun. my husband has celiac disease and the waiter was very attentive to his needs. The meal was fantastic. I highly recommend the Tuna Poke for an appetizer. We loved this place and will go back very soon.
Another great meal with family! And service was great! We had the salmon, bolognese and cavatelli. All great!
Another good dinner at South End. The service is always great. Our waiter seemed a bit preoccupied by a larger party this time. Burger and Bordeaux were awesome. Salmon: great but please LOSE the mass of olives/side dish you serve with it. Yuck! Serve with risotto, bed of spinach or a polenta. I had a pasta dish with eggplant and olives. Tasty but soggy and very average. The bolognese dish is superb; will stick with that next time!
Lovely! It was a perfect holiday lunch spot!
Excellent Food. Great menu. Very loud. Better for grounds than a couple on a Saturday night.
First time here was at dinner and we had a great time. My husband and our friends loved the food. Came back with a girlfriend vising from out of town for Sunday brunch and boy, was it disappointing! The delicious bread that offer at dinner time was not available, they brought one AND A HALF raisin scones instead. When asking for little modifications to fit my plant based diet they wouldn’t accommodate anything, which I find very unusual. The waiter wouldn’t even have to ask, he would simply say “we had this issue in the past and the chef said no”. Well, I will not come back I guess, better options in the area with more flexibility.
Excellent, attentive service with very good, unique food.
We love South End and always have a great time. The specials are usually the best way to go - South End is always surprising us with how well they can creatively and successfully take on a special food item. The environment is warm and cozy with a casual nature that fits any occasion for a good meal.
This particular night our waiter was very high energy and a little too fast paced for a Sunday Night. Unfortunately, he made us feel slightly rushed to leave. Otherwise, we always appreciate the friendly staff and greetings as you enter and leave the restaurant.
My husband’s birthday dinner was a big success. We brought friends here across generations and everyone found things they loved to eat -all with a unique twist- and had a great time. The service was attentive but not overbearing. The cod in chowder was the outright winner of the night for inventiveness and downright yumminess.
The desserts were great too. We don’t normally do sweet course but because it was a birthday treat we indulged and glad we did!
Great food and wine, everything was cooked to perfection! Felt a little rushed at times when ordering, but other than that it was a great experience. A bit louder than I anticipated. It was our first time here and we will definitely be back soon!
Great Restaurant! Lively, good ambience. Love the meatballs, veal chop, the skillet chocolate chip cookie, and the doughnuts.
Everyone enjoyed the evening. Delicious food and upbeat ambience.
Great food prepared with my requested changes. Wine was also delicious. We did not try the desserts though they sounded yummy. Service was outstanding. I look forward to going back again.
Salmon and Sunday spaghetti and meatballs were delicious
LOVED this place!!! Has the feel, food, and experience of a New York City restaurant. Our meals were to die for, we will absolutely be back!
A plus. The chef is very creative. Brief but solid wine list. Lots of rose wine options. Excellent restaurant overall. Exterior is a bit lacking in charm but interior is very nice. Good parking. Good wine shop next door.
We had a wonderful meal. We ordered appetizers, salads, and entrees. Everything was delicious. We wound up filling up in the appetizer & salad & brought half of our entrees home. We would definitely go back.
A little disappointed and embarrassed by the unpleasant experience at check-in when I was told that my reservation for a party of 5 could not be located. It had been booked several days in advance! Luckily, a table did become available and we stayed for dinner.
Good food. Excellent and friendly service at a very reasonable price
As usual, the food was amazing and the service was outstanding.
Dinner there last night. It was great. The service is fabulous! A couple of suggestions: They should return the original Salmon plate. This time, came with a massive side of marinated olives. If you don't like olives, not so good. We also recommend returning the pasta dish with pepper. That was the best and now not on the menu. Thank you, South End!
Exceptionally friendly and attentive servers. Food was very fresh, creatively preoared, and delicious.
Outdoor seating was very nice. Waitstaff could have been more attentive to us.
Four of us at dinner, 3 different meals, two different fish dishes and two pork chop meals. All of us really enjoyed our choices, thought the food was very delicious and will definitely come back.
Absolutely perfect. Food and presentation A plus. Service exceptional. It’s a little treasure. So glad I went here. Excellent.
We were excited to try South End for our anniversary after reading good things. We were disappointed all around; food was just ok but nothing special. Our server was not at all knowledgeable about their drink list (we were inquiring about getting a reasonable bottle of sparkling wine). Overall the food and service is not commiserate with the price. Their more casual restaurant, South End Uncorked, was a way better experience.
Very attentive staff and entrees and appetizers were excellent
Bad from start to finish...We arrived about four minutes after our scheduled reservation time, and found that our friends, who had arrived just before us, were not permitted to be seated. This is an inhospitable practice, particularly when the reservation was re-confirmed by phone the day before. Then, the hostess directed us to a table in a small, cramped back seating alcove, although there were multiple unoccupied table in the main dining area. After some consternation, they seated us at a nice table in the main room. The waiter was competent and helpful, but they timing of food was horrible. Forty-five minutes passed between the salad course and the delivery of the entrees. No excuses, no sense that the front of the house was monitoring their guests. The entrees were satisfactory, although the branzino was lacking in taste. Management needs to be more proactive, and needs to get the kitchen better organized.
