South End Ratings and Reviews
Everything here was incredible! The waiter was very attentive, gave great recommendations about what to eat and how much to order. The wine was excellent. Both pizzas we got were perfectly crisp and chewy, had quality ingredients and were authentic Italian pizzas. Hidden gem at the end of Abbot Kinney! It was easily the best food we had over a one week vacation to LA and San Diego.
As we were walking up it seemed small and subdued. The second we walked in, the room, the owners and the food were anything but. Simply amazing. Great wine list, personable owners who are clearly passionate and the food! Every dish was divine. I did need the walk home to let everything settle as I ate way to much. Highly highly recommended. 6 stars.
Amazing Neapolitan pizza. We love the pizza and the owner chef, Mario. Mario brought his Neapolitan roots to Venice for an amazing combo of Pizza and wine. As a wine enthusiast, he has hand picked awesome wines. His pizza combinations are all delicious. This is our local neighborhood pizza place. The ambiance is casual and fun for date night or with friends. We love going early for happy hour. But be sure to make a reservation, its a small dining room and fills up quick!
Such a great place! Definitely on the small side but the food is great, lighting is intimate and it's outside of the central, hustle & bustle of Abbott Kinney, so it's a great option for date night. The owner is from Rome and brought over the recipe for classic Neapolitan style pizza and added to it some unique flavor profiles. I had the Boardwalk pizza and the wine director recommended an amazing '03 Zin that paired really nicely. These guys are serious about their pizza and wine, we will definitely be back!
It's a small space. Kind of cute. Pizza was pretty good but wouldn't rush to go back for it. Good wine and I like that they pour tastes willingly. Probably better on a week night when it's a little calmer. Great for making out with your girlfriend. Not that I'm into pda. She is.
My fiancé and I had read an article about this place awhile back and finally tried it last night. It's cozy and classic. We had the best time, if you're a venice local and haven't tried it, it's a must go. I had a spicy gluten free pie option and loved it. My fiancé had one with prosciutto and paired it with a wine suggested by Juan our server, he ended up ordering a second glass. There was music which they have on Thursday's and Friday's.. The owner stopped by our table to say hello and then headed straight back into the kitchen, hardworking inviting guy. We highly recommend this place and will be back very soon. Loved everything about it.
Not what it portends to be. Mario (Owner)very arrogant and dismissive when it was brought to his attention that the Four cheese pizza lacked the ricotta. He basically said that it was forgotten ! No offer to make right. Overly interested in table with ladies seated and not apologetic in the least. Many better places to go for pizza and wine in area for less than $90 spent there.
Try Sette Bello nearby, superior in every way !!
Honestly the restaurant is cozy and charming but the pizza is just not good. It tries very hard to be basic Italian but then it takes On bad traits and the sauce is awful. Just awful. Go back to basic and get it right. I actually would come back for cheese and wine but for pizza, never again. Just not good.
Wine mark up is higher than usual for a restaurant. Normal restaurant mark up is three times the price one would pay at a retail wine store. They charged $58 dollars for a $15.99 bottle of wine; $10 more than triple the price. We did enjoy the wine, but we felt a bit ripped off.
I had a wonderful time at South End! Enzo was a wonderful and enchanting host! I felt like I had taken a trip back to Italy- the team there is incredible, the recipes were creative and authentic and the pizza was delizioso! I'm grateful to have been able to experience it!
One of our favorite places to go in Venice
The food his amazing, service is great and the owner is really welcoming. The pizza's are creative. My favorite is the one with Brussels sprouts and bacon, also the one with the fried egg. I have tried others and all are great. Like the little gem salad because it isn't doused in dressing. The only down side is that it is pretty noisy.
I can't tell you how great the service and food was!!! Our waiter Rob and Noel were fantastic, tentative and kind! Made our experience incredibly special. Ask for either of these 2 and you will have the best service in town!
The only drawback to this wonderful restaurant is the space. By the end of the night our party was constantly bumped into by either a server, customers or bus boy.
Once again, SouthEnd delivered the best pizza paired with an excellent wine recommendation by maitre d', Enzo.
Ok, so it may seem a bit pricy to some, but well worth each and every penny as the pizza dough is perfect (from a grape-based sourdough starter).
Grazie, Enzo e Mario
Great find in the hood we've just moved into...it's going to be our regular hangout. Pizza is excellent and price is so reasonable given the quality. Burrata to die for, good selection of wines, and live music - what more can one ask for in this hole-in-the-wall wine bar?
