What a PHENOMENAL place. Mario (owner) is delightful - food and drink amazing!
started off a little bit rocky, but our experience ended up 5 star - they were extremely apologetic about the mishaps and super accommodating! definitely coming back :)
Excellent service. Great food. Noise level is over the top. Why have live music when you can barely hear your dinner companion.
Love southend but they need to update the seating. Terrible layout and when it's busy, prepare to rub elbows with your neighbors all night long.
South End is by far the BEST pizza I’ve had in Cali!!! Mario the Chef is amazing! One of my favorite restaurants ever!
South End is a fantastic neighborhood spot! The staff is very friendly and goes out of their way to make every meal enjoyable. The pizzas are tasty and they have a great wine list.
Food was great. Price was fair. Seating was very tight. For a strong Italian theme in the menu I didn’t understand playing Spanish music.
Great meal, love the vibe and the food is phenomenal.
Looks like a bit of nothing located in a mini-strip mall next to the liquor store and gas station. The signage is hard to read at night in a kind of leaf like green.
You have long community tables in a small space that is elbow-to-elbow.
It is really lively, the food is not only presentable, but super delicious. The service is attentive and you feel transported to a small village in Italy with the ambiance and friendliness that you don't always get in L.A.
Amazing A+++ service.
Very poor showing from South End. I wasn't able to actually get any food, so I'll leave the food at maximum (as I hear it's excellent), but everything else was awful. To start, when we got there, we had to walk through a crowd of people hanging around the entrances smoking and talking *extremely* loudly; essentially shouting. Once inside, there's no one at the front desk, indeed, no front desk at all. Eventually, I manage to pull aside some older guy who seems to be handing out drinks, he asks if we have a reservation, to which I say no. 30-40 minute wait amongst the smokers and the yellers. I should also say that this seems to be par for the course here, as it's so loud I can barely think, much less getting to the point of hearing those thoughts. I go outside, get an OpenTable reservation for 30 minutes later to make sure, go inside to see if there's any kind of list for us, and get told that a) no, and b)the wait will be about 1.5 hours, as to accommodate the people outside (who all already have food which they are in the midst of imbuing with smoke). We wait outside for half an hour, we both get annoyed with the volume, inadequate seating, and eventually leave after no one seems to care or know anything about a reservation once the time gets down. Absolutely awful.
Loud, crowded & expensive. But food was above average.
El lugar es increíble! El mejor lugar donde comí en Estados Unidos! Pizza como en Italia!
The food was very average and the drink selection was very limited.
Small, cozy (packed), popping pizza and wine bar. Food and service were fantastic.
Everything here was incredible! The waiter was very attentive, gave great recommendations about what to eat and how much to order. The wine was excellent. Both pizzas we got were perfectly crisp and chewy, had quality ingredients and were authentic Italian pizzas. Hidden gem at the end of Abbot Kinney! It was easily the best food we had over a one week vacation to LA and San Diego.
South End continues to be my wife and I's favorite dining spot in all of Los Angeles.
Delicious food & wines, above-just-about-all-other-restaurants-in-LA service.
If you haven't been here you need to get over there ASAP!
As we were walking up it seemed small and subdued. The second we walked in, the room, the owners and the food were anything but. Simply amazing. Great wine list, personable owners who are clearly passionate and the food! Every dish was divine. I did need the walk home to let everything settle as I ate way to much. Highly highly recommended. 6 stars.
Best pizza you can find in LA, especially in Venice. Gjelina cannot compete with South End's pizza, that is for sure.
Love this little place. It’s packed and loud, but very welcoming and great food. We had to wait 30 min even with a reservation, but they brought us wine and bread while we chatted outside.
Amazing Neapolitan pizza. We love the pizza and the owner chef, Mario. Mario brought his Neapolitan roots to Venice for an amazing combo of Pizza and wine. As a wine enthusiast, he has hand picked awesome wines. His pizza combinations are all delicious. This is our local neighborhood pizza place. The ambiance is casual and fun for date night or with friends. We love going early for happy hour. But be sure to make a reservation, its a small dining room and fills up quick!
Such a great place! Definitely on the small side but the food is great, lighting is intimate and it's outside of the central, hustle & bustle of Abbott Kinney, so it's a great option for date night. The owner is from Rome and brought over the recipe for classic Neapolitan style pizza and added to it some unique flavor profiles. I had the Boardwalk pizza and the wine director recommended an amazing '03 Zin that paired really nicely. These guys are serious about their pizza and wine, we will definitely be back!
It's a small space. Kind of cute. Pizza was pretty good but wouldn't rush to go back for it. Good wine and I like that they pour tastes willingly. Probably better on a week night when it's a little calmer. Great for making out with your girlfriend. Not that I'm into pda. She is.
My fiancé and I had read an article about this place awhile back and finally tried it last night. It's cozy and classic. We had the best time, if you're a venice local and haven't tried it, it's a must go. I had a spicy gluten free pie option and loved it. My fiancé had one with prosciutto and paired it with a wine suggested by Juan our server, he ended up ordering a second glass. There was music which they have on Thursday's and Friday's.. The owner stopped by our table to say hello and then headed straight back into the kitchen, hardworking inviting guy. We highly recommend this place and will be back very soon. Loved everything about it.
Not what it portends to be. Mario (Owner)very arrogant and dismissive when it was brought to his attention that the Four cheese pizza lacked the ricotta. He basically said that it was forgotten ! No offer to make right. Overly interested in table with ladies seated and not apologetic in the least. Many better places to go for pizza and wine in area for less than $90 spent there.
Try Sette Bello nearby, superior in every way !!
Exceptionally good service, servers seem like they are partners in the place. Great pizza and very nice salads.
the manager was so friendly and welcoming and made sure we were well taken care of.
Honestly the restaurant is cozy and charming but the pizza is just not good. It tries very hard to be basic Italian but then it takes On bad traits and the sauce is awful. Just awful. Go back to basic and get it right. I actually would come back for cheese and wine but for pizza, never again. Just not good.
Owner and host Mario makes everyone at home, as does maitre'd Enzo. Fantasy appetizers, wine, pizzas, salads - excellent goat cheesecake and Nutella calzones. Highly recommend!
The best restaurant without question in the East Bay area. Unbelievable bread, pizza, wine, salads and pasta. Fantastic service, and above all, consistency.
Amazing dinner celebrating multiple graduations...
Best pizza and wine on Westside! Owner and managers are super friendly and welcoming. Very authentic Italian pizza. Favorite spot in Venice!
Always amazing! We go every week... get the farro👍
This place is a winner all around. I love love love it for any occasion. Everything from the service to the food and ambience is superior.
Wonderful, cozy and unpretentious spot in the middle of Venice with the best of Roman pizzas and hospitality!
Pizza is delicious and the service is really good. Pretty small place so I would make a reservation to ensure seating.
Wine mark up is higher than usual for a restaurant. Normal restaurant mark up is three times the price one would pay at a retail wine store. They charged $58 dollars for a $15.99 bottle of wine; $10 more than triple the price. We did enjoy the wine, but we felt a bit ripped off.
I had a wonderful time at South End! Enzo was a wonderful and enchanting host! I felt like I had taken a trip back to Italy- the team there is incredible, the recipes were creative and authentic and the pizza was delizioso! I'm grateful to have been able to experience it!
We had a reservation, very important here. We got moved twice but they made up for it with a glass of wine. Food is always amazing. The staff is knowledgable and friendly. You really feel the family aspect.
One of our favorite places to go in Venice
The food his amazing, service is great and the owner is really welcoming. The pizza's are creative. My favorite is the one with Brussels sprouts and bacon, also the one with the fried egg. I have tried others and all are great. Like the little gem salad because it isn't doused in dressing. The only down side is that it is pretty noisy.
