South City Kitchen Midtown Ratings and Reviews
Went for a weekday lunch and it was packed with businessmen on their breaks. However, we got seated in less than 5 minutes. Pimento cheese app was delicious. We were told the fried chicken entree was big enough for two people and didn’t even need another side. It was nice of them to bring it out on two separate plates, but it wasn’t as big as we had expected. However, I loved that it wasn’t that fried, it’s just a thin layer of skin.
I was visiting Atlanta and an Uber driver recommended and I was so pleased and amazed!! The food was fantastic. I was in heaven. From the biscuits and cornbread, to the pecan pie as the top off, I was enraptured with each bite. Can’t wait to come back to Atlanta just so I can go there again!
Once again, South City Kitchen Midtown delivered outstanding food, superb service and WAY TOO MUCH NOISE. Why not post a sign requesting that diner's modulate their voices instead of table 1 screaming causing table 2 to scream to be heard followed by the snowball effect. I understand that noise is supposed to stimulate appetites but at the SCK level, it just encourages one to eat & run.
Went to the South city kitchen specifically for southern food as I was coming into Atlanta from the Northeast. The restaurant was perfect and service , Comfort and food. I tried the pan fried chicken livers as an appetizer which were exquisite, which were served over a thin layer of mashed potatoes with gravy. Then I had to try to southern fried chicken which also was very juicy chicken and the crust was flaky and not oily at all which made that selection another perfect choice. I recommend trying South city kitchen on your next visit to midtown Atlanta.
SOUTH CITY KITCHEN REMAINS A CLASSIC
establishment for southern comfort cuisine. Over the many years this location has been open, I have been too many times to count and it still manages to remain current, fresh, and exceptional. You simply cannot go wrong with any of their entrees which have survived the test of time and palate.
Excellent food, service and experience for Saturday brunch before the UGA vs. Ga. Tech game. When I wasn't able to add a few people to our reservations though the Open Table app, I called South City Kitchen and left a message asking if they could still accommodate a larger number at the same time. I asked them to call me back, and honestly, I did not expect a restaurant to call back, especially the day after Thanksgiving, but they did! They were so friendly about it and were able to seat all 10 of us. It was a wonderful family meal before a family tradition of college football! We will be back.
Awful! I feel so totally ripped-off. I have heard high praise for this restaurant and was really looking forward to my first visit for Thanksgiving dinner. The service was good and the staff friendly, but the food was disgraceful. My pork chop was overcooked and dried out my husband said his turkey, gravy and dressing was not very good and we both had apples and butternut squash which was not at all good. How can you ruin butternut squash and apples???!!! The meal cost $55.00 each and didn't even include coffee and tea. We really got burned and will not return.
Our server was very nice and everything was great. My boyfriend and I both had the Peach Next Door for drinks. It was delicious and refreshing and we ultimately had another round because it was so smooth and light.
For the appetizer my boyfriend convinced me to get the duck confit. I'm not a fan of duck but I have to say it was super tender. My boyfriend enjoyed it very much, I would have rather gone for the fried gree tomatoes , but we had already had that the night before at another restaurant.
For our dinner choices I chose the fried chicken and my boyfriend chose the hanger steak. Our waitress made a mistake with the order so we had to wait longer for our food but she was very apologetic and the manager comped the second round of drinks on the house which was very nice.
The reason I only gave the restaurant three stars is because I was expecting crazy things to happen in my mouth with the fried chicken. The waitress said it was the most popular dish and that everyone loved it. We are in the south after all so I was expecting an explosion of flavor in my mouth. It was just ok. I mean it was cooked correctly. The chicken was moist. There was nothing wrong with it, but I wanted some magic. Maybe it's just me.
My boyfriend had the hanger steak and I tried some of that and it was really tasty and full of flavor. I would definitely order that over the fried chicken next time. For dessert we shared the pecan pie with ice cream and that was really nice. I think if I had ordered something other than the fried chicken this rating would be four stars for me. Overall though the staff were friendly, they were super apologetic about their mistake, and it was a very cozy place.
This is an amazing restaurant- service was spot on! Our server Hali was great! The food was delicious- wife had the fried chicken- I had the pork chop. The chicken liver appetizer was very good. Biscuits and cornbread were very good. Will definitely go back.
Incredible southern comfort food, and fast! Our server was very friendly, appetizers, biscuits and cornbread were on the table within 10 mins of ordering, and the entrées within 20. Filling and perfectly cooked (delicious all around!). Reservations an absolute must - it was packed in there! We were on the covered patio, and the heat was on full-blast on a cool night, hence a slightly lower ambience rating - but staff corrected that immediately.
My friends and I like this restaurant. Interesting ambiance in a converted house in Midtown Atlanta. Food usually excellent (the shrimp and grits, for instance). We've ordered steak that was a bit tough. Can be noisy at peak hours. Great service and staff. We'll return.
Agree with most others, inside environment is more decent than outside.
Parking is a pain, $15 the closest, $10 in the behind parking lot, but $2/hour for all street parking if not on Sundays/holidays. Definitely recommend to walk one or two blocks to get a street parking.
Complimentary breads are amazing. I love the biscuits better, especially cuz it comes with yummy butter and butter apple sauce.
We came in a group of 4 for Sunday brunch at 1:15pm, it was packed already. Luckily, we made the reservation the day before. I had the crab cake hash, with was one of the best crab cakes ever, I'm not a crab cake person, but this one is good. My friend has the famous chicken & waffle, the chicken was very very crispy outside (not to much bread) and very muscular meat inside. One ordered the shrimp and grits, it was good too, but I won't recommend it if you come here for the first time.
