South City Kitchen Midtown Ratings and Reviews
In town for a birthday celebration and wanted to try an upscale local restaurant. CAROLINE was very friendly at the bar. Manny was our waiter who catered to our every want and need. Provided me a combination entree of Fried Chicken and Shrimp and grits with collard greens. Everything was flavorful but not the best shrimp and grits I've had. The chicken was very moist and favorful. We'll definitely come back when we are back South.
We found SCK on the Fox theatre sponsor page and it looked great so i booked a table for pre theatre brunch. I thought it was closer (walking distance) to the theatre but it wasn’t, although not far at all. First of all I wanted everything on the menu. Secondly our server was so nice and helped us with recommendations. I also mentioned we only had about 45 min to eat before needing to leave for the Fox. She had no problem accomplishing this even though the restaurant was packed. The food was divine! The chicken and waffles both melted in your mouth! The grits and geeens were delicious! I highly recommend you visit!
About 6 years ago I was in Atlanta for business and had an amazing dinner at South City Kitchen. The she crab soup, fried chicken and fried green tomatoes were just the tip of my highlights and I raved about it to my family promising to bring them next time we came to Atlanta. I made good on my promise with this visit but I was truly disappointed. From the poor service, it was obvious our server needed extensive training and should not have been taking tables yet, to the mediocre quality of our food - it was ALL so forgettable except for the cost. What was once a deliciously creamy warm cup of she-crab soup (the stuff of food memories) was a cold lumpy mushy cup of pale color with no flavor. The other dishes were simply not well prepared, with sour tastes and we could tell they had been sitting there for quite a while plated before being delivered to our table. It is such a disservice to good chefs when the serving staff cannot get their act together. I would not return here, and it’s white sad because I really wanted to share a very special meal with my family.
My only complaint was that even with reservations, we were seated next to a door that went out to the enclosed patio area, which was constantly opened with cold wind that would literally blow our hair everywhere. The food is always great, we just needed a better place to sit on a 22 degree evening.
South City Kitchen has been an Atlanta favorite dining spot for years. It did not disappoint when my college age son and I dined there last week. The cuisine is southern influenced, with a creative and sophisticated touch. Anthony was our server and was friendly, professional and efficient. It did not disappoint as it is still great after all these years. Fun mid-town location makes it easy whether you are staying downtown, mid-town or in Buckhead. Cute location in a home, sandwiched in the middle of high rise buildings. Add to your Atlanta dining list!
My wife and I went there for Dinner before the national Championship game. They took reservations which was great because we were worried that we wouldn't get in anywhere if we tried to wait till the day and walk in and most restaurants were not accepting reservations for parties of 2. We got there a little early and were greeted promptly and since we were there before normal dinner time they sat us at the bar until our table was ready. The bartender was very nice and the drinks were excellent. Our table was ready a little early and our waiter asked us what our time frame was. i told him we needed to be out within an hour and he said he would make sure of it. My wife got the fried chicken and I got the Duck. The Duck was excellent, cooked to perfection with a wonderful citrus sauce. My wife declared the friend chicken the best she ever had and coming from a girl born and raised in the South that is high praise indeed. After dinner we shared the chocolate cake. it was a beautifully done dessert that had us fighting for every bite. Drinks, dinner and dessert plus we got a crab soup as an appetizer that was also excellent and the total check was under $120 with tip and we had 3 drinks. We managed that and were out the door in under the hour e=which was our self imposed time line to be at the football game in time. Service was impeccable.
We were coming in for the BCS Championship Football Game and had a 7:30 reservation the night before which, under normal circumstances, would've given us plenty of time - with a cushion. Once we were delayed by three hours, I called and spoke with Colleen at the restaurant who could not have been more helpful (and empathetic to our travel plight!). She pushed the reservation back, we made it and had a delightful, tasty meal. Service was excellent, the food was a good blend of traditional southern cuisine and some newer concoctions thrown in.
All in all, a very pleasant experience and we'd definitely come back.
I found the restaurant to be nicely decorated. Our waiter Ryan was friendly, professional and knowledgeable of the menu. The food, however, seemed over-priced for the quality and the wine must be greatly over-priced judging by the check. I admit to not asking the price on the bottle we ordered. However, based on the fact that we had no appetizers, no salads, and no dessert, and our entrees totaled around $55, the $124 check suggests the wine was at least $60-way too much for the quality of wine we got. Also, the dinner bread consisted of some mediocre biscuits. It was not a bad experience, but my date and I agreed it was certainly not worth $124.
The food and the service were exceptional. Fried green tomatoes, she crab soup, crab cake, flank steak, duck, cavatelle with lamb sausage were all spot on. Easy walk from Marta and the botanical gardens. I would highly recommend this restaurant.
Got there about an hour before our reservation for Saturday brunch/lunch and they wouldn't seat us (even though there were open tables), so we ate lunch at the bar. Server was friendly and offered great food and drink recommendations. Loved the shrimp and grits!
Awesome southern cuisine with a friendly manager, and servers...except ours. From the time we sat down to leaving the establishment, our server was absolutely bland. We tried to joke with him and show excitement about the menu but he never warmed up. So other than him(unfortunately I forgot his name), our food was wonderful....tasty fried chicken, cornbread, she-crab bisque and fried green tomatoes. Thank you South City Kitchen for the experience :).
I wish there had been more vegetarian/fish options based on traditional southern cuisine (e.g., shrimp & grits w/o pig; vegetables that weren't curry--even though I like curry!). I was in the mood for "American south." But service was good and overall it was very nice.
Best fried chicken, hands down, incredibly flavorful . The fried chicken is served over fresh mashed potatoes and greens and each bite was outstanding, so glad they were able to split an order between 2 people as we also ordered the family portion of hot peel & eat shrimp which was wonderful(slightly pricey). The pre-meal buttermilk biscuits and cornbread just melt in your mouth. Fried green tomatoes were a huge hit, not greasy like found elsewhere. Was a wonderful place to try southern food on a vacation from out of state.
The fried green tomatoes are wonderful. We had to send back our crab cakes, but was able to replace that with the fried chicken entree which was absolutely delicious. I personally ordered the shrimp and grits, which is very savory; not the best I've ever had, but still good.
Our experience at South City Kitchen on Christmas Eve could not have been better. The menu choices were perfect and we all were able to enjoy the dinner we desired. The wait staff responded to our needs and the food was absolutely delicious. We cannot wait to come back next year and make it a family tradition. Thank you for making our Christmas Eve very memorable.
We ate brunch here before a show at the Fox. I have eaten dinner here before and liked it but brunch was nothing special. Two of us got the South City breakfast and the eggs arrived cold and hard. We did send them back and the eggs came back warm but it was a disappointing meal. Our server was not very friendly or helpful.
Great place!! Came down from Ohio to spend my birthday week and this place was #1 on my list to dine. Bree was our server and she was outstanding. Complimentary biscuits/cornbread brought to the table. The fried green tomatoes and she-crab soup were to die for! I’ll definitely be back.
