Soul Cafe Ratings and Reviews
Service and food were excellent. However, I was unprepared for the cold air coming from the door leading to the patio. Our server closed the door several times, however other staff kept opening it. If I return, I will dress warmly for the cool nights - or just sit outside under a heater.
A creative menu that changes regularly. This night I chose shrimp and cheese grits which was terrific; just the right amount of spice and prepared perfectly. I had to choose between that and the seafood pot pie which also looked delicious. The server was attentive and the food was served at just the right time. This has become our go to place on the weekends as the food is terrific, service is excellent and prices are reasonable.
we went for the all you can eat chicken which is not advertised on menu on weds. nites for 9.99
my husband decided to eat meatballs . i gave him 3 small bites to taste my chix and i tasted his meatballs the waitress, when i asked for more said i could,nt have more chicken as we shared a dinner ... seriously this is bull crap. who isn,t allowed to try someone elses 'meal.?? was she spying on us?? never so insulted!! then she sent manager to talk to me and said he could charge me full price then my husband could have a chicken dinner .. are you for real..?? i was entitled to eat more. this isnt a buffet???its all you can eat chicken for everyone except me ridiculous.
this is sneaky and misleading as i was not getting any more chicken, out of them . people were quite condescending and rude . I wouldn't ever go there again. nor would i recommend them to any one else unless you want to be watched on what you eat and made to feel like you were stealing the food?? and 3.50 for an iced tea is outrageous cold mashed potatoes she took off my plate to reheat and they were still cold... they are not customer oriented in any way.. and the waitress seemed to get some perverse pleasure out of telling me I couldn, t get any more chicken .. she needs people skills. as does the manager.!!!! horrible experience
We went to take advantage of their Wed Chicken special and it was well worth it. I would have given 5 stars but the meal was not hot..warm enough but we prefer hotter. The chicken is outstanding..seriously and at a great price. I was surprised with the crowd that the noise was not greater but it was very easy to hear and converse. we are going back.
We went to the Soul Cafe on a Wednesday night (which was a mistake). Fortunately we had a reservations and got the requested booth. As it turns out on Wednesday nights they do a chicken special (all you can eat). The place was packed with chicken eaters. Fortunately all other menu items were also available so that we could choose non chicken dishes. As always our dishes were very good. The chicken crowd was numerous and loud.
For the second time within a week there was an issue with the pricing of the beers before 6 pm. The manager explained to us that they had changed their policy recently and that happy hour prices are now only available in the bar. It appears that not all of his wait staff and the hostess were aware of the changes. The manager honored the happy hour pricing indicating that “not everyone had received the memo”. We appreciated that.
Really wanted to like this place. Good atmosphere and live music on Saturday night. We had a party of 6 at 7pm and did not receive food until after 8:00pm. Service was slow and follow-up non-existent. Each person in the party ordered a different entrée. The pork chop was tasty, but overcooked. The fried chicken was rubbery, the duck was dry and jumbo shrimp and grits were neither jumbo or flavorful. We were there for 2 birthdays which was noted on the reservation but was not recognized. We won't be back. The restaurant caters to an older crowd that must prefer their meals overcooked.
The staff, food & ambience are excellent. Sheila’s (chef) menu & specials are creative and delicious...and priced very reasonably for the quality & portions served. John, the manager, took special care in accommodating my husband’s requests for a menu substitution...he designed a special preparation of a dish that was delicious. We consider Soul Cafe a neighborhood favorite, dine there often, and have never been disappointed.
Every time we are in the area we go to Soul Cafe for dinner. We like the location as well as the food. As this time we were not disappointed. The food was good and we liked our beers as well. Since we had an early dinner the drinks were supposed to be at the Happy Hour prices. However whe we received the bill they showed up at full price. When we asked our waitress she said: “That is weird” and took the bill. It took a while for her to come back with a corrected bill. Not sure why it took so long.
Other than that we had an enjoyable dinner.
Food was disappointing. Beef was tough and veggies in pot pie were not done. Music was too loud and I couldn’t get up to leave because the table behind us was too close. We had to get them to move so we could leave. There were many other empty tables to seat them at. We all agreed that another choice would have been good.
Everything from greeting you, the service, and oh my god the food. Perfect is the only word to use. This was our NYE dinner. It was a fixed price meal. The choices were imaginative and the portions were plentiful. Our server couldn’t be nicer. She made sure everything was to our liking without being intrusive. We drove about 35 minutes to get here and I would do it again in a heartbeat. Whether you go for their fixed price special menus or just go there any other time for breakfast, lunch, or dinner it is worth the drive. Don’t deny yourself this exceptional experience. Make Soul Cafe a destination have to.
This week the Dover Sole Florentine was outstanding; extraordinary taste; perfect preparation. My wife had the scallops which are always one of our favorites that are exceptional all the time. Service was great and the trio that provided music was super. If you have never been to Soul Cafe you are missing out on a great restaurant that charges reasonable prices for exceptional food and entertainment. Similarly their breakfast menu is to die for.
4 of us enjoyed a great meal. The food was unique, well prepared. The fried chicken is fantastic and my husband ordered a side of green chili pork to go with it. The green chili pork has a good kick. I ordered the butternut squash enchiladas, also delicious and great with a spoon full of the chili added over the top. The music is excellent, but a bit loud for the space. Finished with the homemade blueberry pie. Out of this world flavors!!
Nice place with a good menu. I had the meatloaf which was a bit off. Server would disappear for long periods of time and was not attentive, forgot soup spoon and had to track someone down to bring one. Charge for bread even when ordering soup and salad. I would come back for breakfast which I hear is very good, but not dinner.
