Every time we visit Cincinnati, Sotto is a Must on our list! A downstairs venue in the heart of downtown is a perfect location for a meal with ambience. Exposed brick and a warm inviting atmosphere lends a hand in the food experience. Homemade pasta are stars here but the simple chactuerie and cheese plate is excellent with warm breads. The fried pork loin with lemon and capers is a hearty and satisfying dish. The desserts like ricotta doughnuts and chocolate budino are perfect. Try the homemade limoncello-it is a power punch of flavor. Service is always friendly and interactive.
Stupendous food that is carefully crafted every time! So authentic and true to eating in Northern Italy! I wish I could take more time at lunch to enjoy it properly.
Solid meal from start to finish. Shared 4 plates with my wife and each was prepared beautifully. Plenty of food, especially by the time we got to the breaded pork loin. Excellent budino for dessert. Wine list was all Italian, so have the wait staff help you if you are not familiar. Great ambiance down in the cellar with lots of candlelight. Hats off to Cyrus, our server. Guy knew his stuff!!
We are pregnant with our first child and to celebrate our initiation into parenthood we had our “last supper” at Sotto. We had an amazing dinner and the dessert topped off the night. The waitress handed us a to-go bag and said “This is just a little something to congratulate you guys”. I thought it was some type of dessert so I waited to open it until we got home so I could put it in the fridge...I couldn’t have been more wrong! They gave us a Sotto newborn onesie! I cannot thank the staff enough for going above and beyond to make this a memorable night.
Delicious meal !!!! Wonderful selection of entrees and wines !!!
Delicious Italian in a very unique underground tavern atmosphere. It’s on the pricey side for the smaller portions you get. You pay for a great experience. We were treated like royalty. The goat cheese bruschetta appetizer and the ricotta donuts in salted caramel sauce were actually the best parts. But the short rib pasta dish was also very good. We tried two other dishes and they paled in comparison to the short rib dish. For the money, you pay more for the ambience than the amazing food. Again, portions are small. But I would go back. Very romantic place. Great for dates. Lots of private rooms, so also great for group gatherings.
Favorite restaurant in cincy! I’ve been impressed with every menu item I have gotten. Each server has always recommended the perfect food for us and they are very knowledgeable. Would recommend to anyone
My favorite restaurant in Cincinnati. Always looking for a reason to go!!
Valet...check. Great guys were gentlemen and prompt.
Check in went without a hitch and quickly seated at a booth table for two. Love!
Abby to such great care of us and didn't miss a beat. Drinks- I had the Amalfi and hubby had the Il Palio. Both were a hit and went well with our cheese plate. Great options and varying tastes. The bread was nice and crusty too.
Two pastas and we shared- short rib and a season special. OMG! I don't know which I liked best because they were both very different. The short rib had a nice butter creamy sauce and the seasonal had a nice sweet flavor from the corn. Totally different, but so tasty. We asked for a glass of red and they chose a great one.
We opted for the chocolate budino. Creamy rich with yummy candies hazelnut. Amazing with an espresso.
Go again? You bet! Amazing service and such delicious food. One of the best meals in Cincinnati. We won't for a special occasion to go in.
Absolutely delicious. We tried a variety of dishes. The steak for 2 to 6 people was so flavorful and tender. The Kale salad is yummy!! We loved the Phister cheese and hazelnut bruschetta. And oh my!! The desserts are beyond!! The ricotta donuts and chocolate
Budina were our choices to share. We love this place!!
Perfect service and food on our anniversary! Troy was fantastic!
Greatest space in Cincinnati.Food and service are always amazing
Recently gathered a group of old friends together for a reunion of sorts and we had a terrific time. Service was great and so was the food. The restaurant is very loud, but still has great ambiance. I would include a picture but the place is so dark the pics aren’t great. Would do this night all over again.
Great atmosphere. Menu is great for sampling many different things.
WONDERFUL experience for my annual gathering of 3 college pals who gather in one of 3 locations - Manaroneck, NY; Madison, WI or Cincy each Summer. Sotto did me proud with incredible food, wine and service. The only issues we had regarding our visit had to do with a) the popularity of Sotto (and my lack of undedstanding of this) almost made it impossible for me to take my friends there for a meal. BE FOREWARNED of the popularity of the restaurant and BOOK IN ADVANCE!!! 10 - 14 days is not long enough!!!! In addition, the restaurant can be NOISY! For 3 lady friends in our 60's who wanted to gab - being seated at a table close to the entrance and bar was not co such e to chattBig above the noise of people being seated; the din of the group table nearby etc, etc. However, before sitting down we asked about other options and it just happened that a private room was available. Usually reserved for groups (with minimum numbers of guests and minimum spending requirements) - the 3 of us were able to dine in the smaller private room at no charge and really enjoy our conversation and the food! What a special evening we had. Sotto can be sure that I will be back - out of town guests or not! And I shall book farther in advance. All of our dishes were great. I recall that 2 of us enjoyed the salad with prosciutto first and the Bombollotti as the second course. We had an Etna Rosso wine 🍷- left nothin on our plates. Or in the bottle, shared by the 3 of us. Worth every penny. *
Delicious gluten free options. Enjoyed a fine meal with my wife, son, and daughter
I was very please with my first visit to Soto! The service was attentive, but not annoyingly so and my guest and I were allowed the pleasure of "NO RUSH" for a mid-week lunch. My only complaint (and, mind you, this is reaching for one...) was a bit of a limited menu. Wanted to see more interesting salads, maybe more pasta...many sandwiches. That said, our lunch was fine, not over the top fab, but fresh and tasty!
Sotto is always delicious and the food is very authentic. My favorite Italian in Cincinnati!
Our waitress, Hilary, was amazing. Our food was so delicious! Everything about the experience was perfect! Can’t wait to go back.
Great service and food was excellent. Great bottle of Rosè.
The food was fantastic and perfect portions for lunch.
Music was too loud / not on the vibe the restaurant and food illustrates. There’s a disconnect there that takes it from perfectly thought out to falling just short. Service was slightly slow to take orders but food served very fast.
Dinner at Sotto is always a lovely experience! I eat gluten free and my friend eats vegan and both were wonderfully accommodated with the most delicious dishes.
This is one of our most favorite places ever! The food is an experience, the wait staff is helpful without being obtrusive, and everything about it is first class. We consider this a Cincinnati treasure!
Excellent meal. Booked lunch as we couldn’t get a table for dinner.
Always a great lunch at Sotto. We were in an out in under and hour. Love the black kale chicken Caesar salad. So hard to beat.
I have eaten at Sotto in the past and loved it. It is always at the top of the list for recommendations for guests when they are in town. The staff, service, food and atmosphere is always great.
Amazing food, wonderful space, and great service! I highly recommend Sotto.
We LOVE Sotto. The quality of the food is simply outstanding. I'm always surprised their prices aren't higher. Even the Blue Oven bread with oil is amazing and so inexpensive. The food here is better than food in Italy. If you can get in, go. It really is that good.
Our first time and loved the food! Would return again!
Food and service was superb! Only problem is the noise level. A little hard to carry on a conversation.
But overall it was great.
Excellent. Offered several Gluten Free options. The GF Bolognese was outstanding. There were 4 diners in my party and everyone enjoyed their meal.
Best restaurant in Cinci
Mentioned in my notes that I was really trying to impress a girl and we were seated by the wine cellar. It was probably the most romantic dinner I could’ve thought of.
Awesome meal and service. I love that the menu is not HUGE -- but so well balanced. Every item sounded delicious. Our waiter was excellent and his recommendations were spot on.
This is my favorite restaurant in Cincinnati. The food and atmosphere are excellent. You should have the ricotta doughnuts with salted carmel sauce they are an awesome way to end your meal at Sotto.
Spectacular service followed by authentic Italian cuisine. The best in Cincinnati.
We have eaten at Sotto many times and are usually very happy. On this visit, the points of excellence were 1) service (Mercedes) was superb, 2) La Spinetta rose was very good and well priced, 3) the asparagus/anchovy salad was excellent, 4) my wife’s meal (don’t remember what) was outstanding, and 5) tiramisu was delicious. Minor weak points were 1) scimpy portion of Blue Oven bread, and 2) practically no clams in my spaghetti alla vongole.
This place is perfect. The food is outstanding, as well as the service. An example: We accidentally blew our candle out and before we could blink, our server had a replacement. Get the Goat Cheese Toast, Short Rib Ravioli and the Ricotta Donuts. All favorites for a reason! We're booking our next reservation right now!
We always love going to Sotto! Our server was wonderful, and the food is always delicious. Our favorite dinner date spot.
