It is a concept of casual intimacy and communal romance. Sotto is the art of simplicity, a steward of restraint. It’s undressed, gutsy and human. It is fire, meat, wheat, and laughter. Above all, Sotto is Italian.

Sotto Ratings and Reviews
My wife and I had another great meal at Sotto. We start with an appetizer and then share one item from each of the courses. Everything is well prepared and delivered at the right temperature and nicely paced between courses. Although we're not big dessert fans, we always have room for the ricotta donuts. Don't miss them!
We love the warm, cozy atmosphere so much that we have been coming to this same place for 50 years, starting when it was LaNormandie and the bar floor was always covered with peanut shells from the bowls of peanuts that graced every table.
This was the first time my family and I have eaten at Sotto. We really enjoyed the atmosphere (although a tad hard to read the menu with the dark lighting) and the food was awesome. Our waiter (can't remember his name :( ) was awesome as well and made it fun. Would definitely recommend Sotto to friends for a unique place to eat.
Great Pastas as usual to go with the rest of a short but delicious menu. Service, by Alicia I think, was above and beyond the expected. We are frequent dinners here and will continue to be. There are two small drawback: 2) The restaurant can be very noisy which is a plus for a feeling of excitement, a negative for serious conversation. 2) Because the restaurant is so popular, it is extremely difficult to get a reservation. Plan ahead - especially for a weekend - weeks ahead.
We were looking for a place to have dinner prior to a broadway show. We had walked past Sotto quite a few times so we decided to give it a try. Going down the stairs feels like you are in a new world. The food was fantastic and reminded us of being in Italy earlier in the year. Rachel was our server and she was fantastic and gave great advice on meals. We are excited to come back again and try more of the food.
This is my second time to Sotto and the food was again excellent! Combining the reviews here from both times. Plates can be shared family-style (which is what we did the first time). But this time, we opted to share an appetizer and get our own individual entree portions. The goat cheese & hazelnut bruschetta was again amazing ('melt in your mouth' quality). Sadly, the Caprese salad with amazing heritage tomatoes was out of season and no longer on the menu for an appetizer.
The pasta was perfection. Half of our table opted for the lamb rigatoni which was so savoury and the other half had the sausage gnocchi which was excellent. Last time, we got the short rib pasta was great as well. We also splurged on the porterhouse steak as a group and it was a perfect size to divide among four people. The meat quality was amazing and we ate everything off the bone. Sides were slightly salty that accompanied this.
Dessert to finish off with the donuts was good (the dipping sauces are a fun twist, but the donuts themselves are been set up for such a high bar that cannot be realistically met). Would definitely recommend to friends and family.
I have dined at Sotto 3 times now, and have always had a great experience and great food. They utilize soft lighting and natural building products (stone and wood mainly) to create a cozy cellar-like feel...it also helps that it is underground. The menu has a few staples, but rotates periodically for some variety. I encourage anyone who gives Sotto a chance to try something out of their comfort zone because all of it tastes amazing. The wine list is excellent, and the servers are very knowledgeable and can make good recommendations. They are also very good about asking you if you are celebrating something special, and elevating your experience if you in fact are.
My only warning is that you really need to book well in advance (sometimes weeks) if you are looking to dine there on weekends during peak hours. Definitely worth the planning and the wait, though.
We live an hour outside of Cincinnati, so when we come in to town, we like to go to a nice place. Sotto is one of our favorites. The only disappointing thing about Sotto, is that lots of people like it as much as we do and it’s a challenge getting a reservation! We enjoyed everything from the valet parking to the dessert and coffee. Simple Italian menu with enough choices to keep us coming back. The ambiance is truly unique and fit for a date or a group of friends. And great wine selection by the bottle and glass!
I love all of the food at Sotto! Service was very good. My only request would be to turn down the music a little. We were tucked back in a corner - so it was more quiet than in the main dining area...but the music was a bit too much and difficulty in having a conversation. We were there for our anniversary and there were times we just had to wait for the song to end to be able to hear each other.
I took my girlfriend to Sotto for her birthday. I was blown away. The food was some of the best I have tasted. The ambiance was perfect. It felt like a prohibition era speakeasy turned romantic 5 star restaurant. Everything about Sotto was perfect.
We found a piece of plastic in our salad. We gave it to our server-he apologized and said he would let the manager know. No management ever came over to us until we paid our bill. When we asked the server what his manager said he said that they inspected the salad for future presets. We never saw management nor did anyone come over to apologize for the piece of plastic. When someone came to clear our desert plates he asked how everything was and we said we were pretty disappointed that no manager came over to apologize for the piece of plastic in our salad. The bill came we paid and the manager finally came to discuss and said that he could reverse our charges and that he had no idea that we had a piece of plastic in our salad. I said that’s odd since our server was well aware and even put it in his pocket to “show his manager”- when we told the “said manager” because he is not a manager that he was a lot late he stormed away!!!!!!! Storm away from a $300 bill???????? I am appalled that this was the treatment that we got-an apology felt m management would have gone a long way-I am shocked that this is how we were treated. I have been there many times and took out of town guests and am very disgusted with the treatment we received. Plastic in salad and no one from management comes over???? The manager tells us that’s the first he’s hearing about it?????????? As we are walking out ????????
While food, wine and service were excellent, the noise level was not conducive to normal conversation, at least for us boomers. Speed of food delivery almost an issue as we had play tickets, but mgt. made up for it with a complimentary dessert, and we made it to the play with time to spare. Great pasta!!!!
Sotto is completely underground, so the ambience of the restaurant is definitely a little dark / gothic. Some portions of our food were good, but some were not - my shaved pork sandwich had bones in it!
Service was average - but I felt the server, while very nice, was somewhat slow and didn't check on us as often as I would have liked.
Price of food was a bit high - I would say worth probably 80% of the actual price.
We have been to Sotto several times and have NEVER been disappointed. Every dish we ordered was mouth watering! The Octopus was an absolute favorite surprise! The polenta, Short Rib and Gnocchi are fabulous! Never leave without the order of donut holes and make your reservations in advance.
