It is a concept of casual intimacy and communal romance. Sotto is the art of simplicity, a steward of restraint. It’s undressed, gutsy and human. It is fire, meat, wheat, and laughter. Above all, Sotto is Italian.

Valet...check. Great guys were gentlemen and prompt.

Check in went without a hitch and quickly seated at a booth table for two. Love!

Abby to such great care of us and didn't miss a beat. Drinks- I had the Amalfi and hubby had the Il Palio. Both were a hit and went well with our cheese plate. Great options and varying tastes. The bread was nice and crusty too.

Two pastas and we shared- short rib and a season special. OMG! I don't know which I liked best because they were both very different. The short rib had a nice butter creamy sauce and the seasonal had a nice sweet flavor from the corn. Totally different, but so tasty. We asked for a glass of red and they chose a great one.

We opted for the chocolate budino. Creamy rich with yummy candies hazelnut. Amazing with an espresso.

Go again? You bet! Amazing service and such delicious food. One of the best meals in Cincinnati. We won't for a special occasion to go in.

WONDERFUL experience for my annual gathering of 3 college pals who gather in one of 3 locations - Manaroneck, NY; Madison, WI or Cincy each Summer. Sotto did me proud with incredible food, wine and service. The only issues we had regarding our visit had to do with a) the popularity of Sotto (and my lack of undedstanding of this) almost made it impossible for me to take my friends there for a meal. BE FOREWARNED of the popularity of the restaurant and BOOK IN ADVANCE!!! 10 - 14 days is not long enough!!!! In addition, the restaurant can be NOISY! For 3 lady friends in our 60's who wanted to gab - being seated at a table close to the entrance and bar was not co such e to chattBig above the noise of people being seated; the din of the group table nearby etc, etc. However, before sitting down we asked about other options and it just happened that a private room was available. Usually reserved for groups (with minimum numbers of guests and minimum spending requirements) - the 3 of us were able to dine in the smaller private room at no charge and really enjoy our conversation and the food! What a special evening we had. Sotto can be sure that I will be back - out of town guests or not! And I shall book farther in advance. All of our dishes were great. I recall that 2 of us enjoyed the salad with prosciutto first and the Bombollotti as the second course. We had an Etna Rosso wine 🍷- left nothin on our plates. Or in the bottle, shared by the 3 of us. Worth every penny. *

I was very please with my first visit to Soto! The service was attentive, but not annoyingly so and my guest and I were allowed the pleasure of "NO RUSH" for a mid-week lunch. My only complaint (and, mind you, this is reaching for one...) was a bit of a limited menu. Wanted to see more interesting salads, maybe more pasta...many sandwiches. That said, our lunch was fine, not over the top fab, but fresh and tasty!

Music was too loud / not on the vibe the restaurant and food illustrates. There’s a disconnect there that takes it from perfectly thought out to falling just short. Service was slightly slow to take orders but food served very fast.

We LOVE Sotto. The quality of the food is simply outstanding. I'm always surprised their prices aren't higher. Even the Blue Oven bread with oil is amazing and so inexpensive. The food here is better than food in Italy. If you can get in, go. It really is that good.

We have eaten at Sotto many times and are usually very happy. On this visit, the points of excellence were 1) service (Mercedes) was superb, 2) La Spinetta rose was very good and well priced, 3) the asparagus/anchovy salad was excellent, 4) my wife’s meal (don’t remember what) was outstanding, and 5) tiramisu was delicious. Minor weak points were 1) scimpy portion of Blue Oven bread, and 2) practically no clams in my spaghetti alla vongole.

This place is perfect. The food is outstanding, as well as the service. An example: We accidentally blew our candle out and before we could blink, our server had a replacement. Get the Goat Cheese Toast, Short Rib Ravioli and the Ricotta Donuts. All favorites for a reason! We're booking our next reservation right now!

Noise Level: So loud that we couldn't hear each other speak. Very frustrating.
Value: Portion size was small. For example, ordered the goat cheese bruschetta and it was a single slice of bread, size of my hand, sliced in 2 with light slathering of goat cheese, drizzle of honey and a few chopped nuts. This was $8. Short Rib Cappellacci, 12 small ravioli, $18. Insalata
baby greens, cucumber, mint, vinaigrette, which was what I'd consider a small side salad was $12.
Ambiance: Dark-basement-no natural light. No lights at the end areas where we sat. There were chandeliers and sconces placed about 5 - 10 feet away and wattage was low. We had a single candle on our table. It was romantic, but super dark. Never been in a restaurant that dark before.
Service would have been perfect if the hostess had told us that we could order a basket of bread with dipping oil for only $2. Looking back at the menu, guess I didn't realize that this is what Blue Oven Tortano Bread was. If you go and want a basket of bread, ask for it and you shall receive for nominal price.
Food: Aside from the bruschetta, everything was superb. The pasta had so much flavor, consistency was perfect, temp perfect, etc. The salad, albeit one of the simplest I've ordered in a restaurant, had a flavor punch with the mint, chives, feta and lemon dressing. I am definitely going to make this at home. I am what some call the bruschetta queen, so there is a specific consistency I expect. I want the bread warm, crisp on the outside and tender in the middle. This bread was simply toasted, crunchy throughout. The flavors were nice...this too I will try at home - but a lot more of it:-)
Wine selection for glasses was limited. Wasn't a fan of their house red.
Overall: if back in Cinci, I'll try another restaurant vs. going back. If I lived there, would definitely go if I wanted a perfect pasta and with someone who I didn't want to converse with.

Good food but limited. We celebrated our anniversary here twice. The first time, we had a booth, and it wasn't so loud. Cocktails and wine were still pretty good. Service was excellent.

The portions seem to gotten much smaller since last year. While I expect the menu to change, it seems like all the best stuff from apps to pasta to mains have disappeared. Portions are small so we ordered a lot which added up to a larger bill than expected. Also there are only three second courses (mains). So my problem was I didn't want a giant breaded and fried piece of pork or a steak meant for two, which left me with a fish option which was fine, but TINY. What about some chicken, quail, or you know something else? The pastas were ok. I don't expect to see fusilli on a menu this expensive. I understand they have limitations because of a fire in their grill, but hey chef, step up, add a couple of entrees.
