Sotto 13 Ratings and Reviews
The restaurant has a lovely ambiance when you are seated in the dining area. The front portion of the restaurant is very crowded and noisy. We went at the tail end of happy hour. Bartender was dreadful. Ignored us, as to make the clock “run out” on happy hour prices. Be Careful about the prices too. Menu says 2 cocktails for $13.00. Ordered 2 cocktails and was charged 26.00. Why? Because I gave one to my friend. You alone have to drink the cocktails. I never heard of such a thing. Be careful. I asked to speak to the manager, he came over to our table, and said that this was their policy. It was an Unhappy happy hour, but the food was okay.
Don’t know if I would return because policy was the only thing that was important, not the customer (especially in a service oriented business).
Great menus, service and ambience. On a very pretty, quiet cross street you will find this gem! The family style brunch was fantastic. The menu options are great, even for vegetarians! The only down side is that the patio seating was very tight quarters with a very small table which is difficult when you are eating family style!
We wanted a place that had a brunch pre fixe but with a civilized crowd, and this place was perfect. Lovely service from beginning to end, delicious food and drinks, and all for only $35 pp before tax and tip. Also a beautiful space inside and out. I will definitely return and recommend to friends.
It seems to always be loud and crowds get abnoxios. I'm guessing this place is better fitting for those who want to have a party, drink and get loud. Not a quiet restaurant visit or date placed.
P. S. Left after ten or fifteen minutes without ordering food. The shouting bar attendants and shaking outside seating was too uncomfortable. Therefore not rating food by this review.
Food and service were very good. However, the hostess was unfriendly from the moment we walked in the door, could barely be bothered to smile or even make eye contact to greet us. We requested politely to be sat in the main dining room (we arrived early for our reservation), and while she may not have been able to accommodate the request, was completely insincere and rude in telling us so. Never did let us know if something opened up in the main dining room as she said she would.
For some reason, the air conditioning at the back of the restaurant wasn't switched on when we arrived at 7pm. It was stuffy and humid and only after making 3 separate requests for them to turn the air conditioning on did we feel the trickle of cool air. Half way through our dinner, the air conditioning was switched off again and we had to request for the air conditioning to be turned back on.
The food was good. It wasn't amazing but we were satisfied with the overall quality. The mushroom pasta we ordered was delicious and so was the Caprese pizza. For dessert, we ordered the doughnuts filled with Nutella but unfortunately they were very stingy with the Nutella filling, much like how they were stingy with the air conditioning. Overall, it was a pleasant experience but would I come back again? Probably no.
We've been here before, but this time sat near the bar and took advantage of the incredible Happy Hour deals. We started with a $10 margarita pizzas (all their pizzas are terrific) and nibbled on the cauliflower side dish, which is not to be missed. They offer two wines for very little so you can have a totally terrific early dinner for way less than you'd expect to spend.
The service has always been professional and friendly. Even the street is special - tree-lined and lovely. Sitting outside at one of the few tables is so pleasant. We've enjoyed every dinner we've had here and so have the people we've been with.
We had hoped to sit outside as the noise level from the bar area was equal to a jet engine. No luch there, so we went to the back of the restaurant, where it was moderate. The waier was terrific and the eggplant pizza my wife had was perfect. My carbonara, not so much. The waiter took it back to the kitchen and they tried again but it wasn't to be. It's a Roman dish and the restauarnt needs a chef from Rome (IMHO) to do it right. Varitions are fine, but soggy is not. We will go back, for the pizza, for sure. I doubt I will try the carbonara again, but there may be other dishes to try. The noise of the bar, which leaks out into the street, can be toned down and the restauarnt can still make a bundle, but someone has to see it as an issue.
This was my first time dining at Sotto 13. My friend and I came here to celebrate her belated birthday. We started off with cocktails, I had the Pinot Grigio and she had their signature Watermelon frozè which was AMAZING. You could barely taste the alcohol, which can be a little dangerous! To start we tried the meatballs which were a signature here, they were cooked to perfection. Our only complaint was that we wish it came with more than just 3...
For dinner I had the whole wheat cavatelli with peas, excellent! Sauce was very flavorful. My friend had the beef bolognese, which unfortunately, felt short on taste and lacked seasoning.
Overall, we had a great time and the dining room ambiance was excellent. We will be back!
Showed up around 630 and the front of the restaurant was packed near the bar area. They have a good happy hour deal (2 for $13) but you can only partake if you are at the bar/front of the restaurant. If you're seated in the back the deal does not apply. First impression the space is tiny, but was pleasantly surprised when the hostess led us to the back where it opens up, amazing natural lighting and vibes. I ordered the monte cristo pizza and it was delicious! Warning the cheese is extremely rich, i could only have a few slices, but sooo worth it. Will def be back and highly recommend for friend get togethers or birthday dinners- but make sure you have a reservation just in case!
Went with 2 friends before heading to a show midtown Service is always great the food was lovely I recommend the octopus so yummy friends all enjoyed there food Such a nice village spot with the sky light in the dinner room Fabulous to me the high tables not the best for short people aka one of my friends so we sat at a regular table Also a good deal on Happy Hour to start out the evening right !
Ate at this restaurant on a Saturday night, father' day weekend with a party of 7. Fun, lively atmosphere but very noisy. We got a few pizzas for appetizers and they were fabulous. I had the bronzino and it was delicious!!! The others ordered the swordfish and the chicken. The people with these entrees said it wasn't enough food. Small entrees. Very nice server. She was attentive. Overall a nice night out in NY.
We enjoyed a wonderful meal here.
We had a 6pm reservation.
We arrived early and sat at the bar as they were cleaning up from a launch party.
We met the bartender Marcus.
We had an excellent cosmo and dirty martini.
We had a lively discussion with Marcus, very personable.
Then a new couple next to us joined in and we all discussed out work experiences in the Middle East.
For dinner we had the Tasting menu:
toasted bread & olio novello 13.
ricotta, pomodoro, toasted pine nuts 12.
artichoke & potato salad
pea tendrils, herbs & lemon 13
zucchini blossoms, mozzarella, fontina, serrano chili, spring onion 17 pizza.
bolognese, parmigiano & love 19.
fresh-cut bucatini, duck pancetta, cured egg yolk
