I didn’t get into Soto with my reservation b/c the sotoaustin website directs Open Table to the Cedar Park location. When we arrived at the Austin location the restaurant had maybe 8 people there. The hostess figured out why our name wasn’t on her list and still wouldn’t seat us. Will not try dining there again. Fix your website, Soto.

We love us some SOTO. Everything on the menu is mind-blowing - you really can't make a bad choice. Chef Andy is the best! Get the chili hamachi!

Soto has the freshest sushi in town. The food was great. Unfortunately, they were understaffed on Sunday evening, but the manager did bring in help and compensated us for the slow service. I would definitely go back.

Wonderful food served, kind wait staff, but the noise level was too high since I could hear everyone's conversations and the clunking of dishes in the kitchen. Overall 8/10

Anniversary celebration made special, once again, by Chef Andy and Team. Having moved 30 miles away, 3+ years ago, we ration our trips to Soto mostly for special celebrations.

I was lucky to have a business lunch at Soto earlier in the week that was also superb. Work colleague was a vegetarian and they had menu options, as well as special substitute options, to easily accommodate his requirements.

The food was pretty good. Some exciting dishes. HOWEVER we ordered a special dish made with "white salmon" . They should have honestly called it what it was -- Escolar, the exlax fish. Gave one diner cramping the rest of the evening and the next day.
Another problem, service was SO slow, dinner took 3 hours. Food came out one dish at a time so table of 4 did not eat together but just took turns eating with the others watching. With 10 - 15 mins between each dish. This wonderful dining experience was topped off by a toddler SCREAMING at the next table for 2 hours.
On a positive note, one diner ordered the omakase and enjoyed every bite. HOWEVER his food came out last, one dish at a time if course and the rest of us watched him eat.

Service was excellent. Food was 4/5 Stars. We were told it would be a 5 by a friend that is a foodie. It was tasty but we both agreed, it wasn’t as good (tonight) as two of our other favorites for sushi. The setting and service was 5/5. The toro sushi was also a 5. The cocktails were a 5. The rolls were authentic and excellent. It may have been us as we are accustomed to specialty rolls that are more Americanized with more spicy mayo, eel sauce, etc. We will go back as there was nothing at all to complain about. Good experience and the wait staff is really educated on the menu and cut of fish options.

A hidden little gem. The bar service tends to be consistently slow but I've found that if you order another drink as soon as your first one is delivered they keep pace.

We've been to Soto 3 or 4 times now and have been impressed each time. We usually go for an occasion, so our bill ends up being higher than if we just went randomly, but it is worth it and you don't have to spend a ton to get a great experience here. The food (sushi, appetizers, etc.) is excellent, the drinks are kinda different but really good, the wait staff has been excellent every time. The sushi is as good as anywhere in Austin. Highly recommended!

Soto shines when it comes to quality and freshness of their sushi. We repeatedly find it to be among the best in Austin. Service is great and the food is always presented with a high level of creativity. Their craft cocktails are emerging as a terrific addition to the fine food.

One critique - their special appetizers don't get conveyed with pricing and they tend to be of the most expensive items on the menu. It always feels weird to ask a waiter how much those are when they are described but in the future I will do that.

The sushi was exceptional, our server was on top of it the entire evening. Unfortunately I would specifically call her out as well above average in her personal interaction and attention to detail. The only caution is track your order cost carefully.

Such great sushi. Every piece is delicately and purposefully crafted to give you an amazing mouthful of flavor each time. Incredible sushi place with very high quality fish - and my family is very picky about that so it means a lot!

We had indicated in our reservation we were there for our 20th anniversary and while not expected it would have been nice for someone to acknowledge that we chose to spend that special occasion at their restaurant. Secondly - when we indicated we weren't interested in the multi-course meal, we felt dismissed and the waiter never really paid much attention to us after that.

My second meal (dinner) at Solo in two days. I opted for the omakase dinner, and was not disappointed. The nine–course meal was delightful, varied, creatively presented, and best of all, delicious. The waiter was attentive and prompt throughout the long and complicated service.
One of the best of the nine courses was the first little oyster on the half shell, with delicate seasoning, including one drop of tabasco sauce.
The servings are the right size, so that at the end of the meal the diner is not sated. I tasted my first scorpion fish, and several other varieties I didn't recognize. The duck breast in a cored, ripe apple (cooked with apple) was excellent, as was the beef course, cooked by the diner on a stone.
The dinner is pricey, with automatic 20% gratutiy, but it is labor intensive, and worth the cost to me.
It would not be a good choice for persons not used to Japanese cuisine—lots of sushi and sashimi, but a good cut above the standard sushi roll lunch.
My best recommendation to prospective diners and compliments to the chef and staff.

My favorite Japanese of all tried (many). Lunch onJune 15, tasty miso soup; friendly, helpful waitress; delicious, light salad with great dressing; a magnificent lunch serving of 14 sushi/sashimi multi-bites, with savory rice, and unusually good ginger and a lighter, better wasabi paste. Sake served in carafe, with glass in a box, overflowing. I plan to repeat often.

Looking for the perfect Japanese restaurant in Texas? This is it. Don't be fooled by the location or the almost hidden entry door. Behind it you will find a true gem of authentic Japanese food. Each dish is a true piece of art and most wonderful in taste.

Always a great place for a date or special occasion. Excellent sushi and great innovative dishes in general. Wonderful flavors. Service is usually excellent, but you want to take your time here and enjoy all the different items. We prefer to approach Soto Tapas style and order many smaller dishes to share.

We placed our order and it was taking longer then usual; our server, Amy, said that they were several order in at the same time but that our food would be out shortly.

Amy offered us some soup to hold us over; a few minutes more and the manger/owner came back with some sushi.

They went beyond what they needed to do to make us happy, but in addition to the service and customer care, the food is excellent. My husband and I had decided that Soto would be our go to place for sushi.
