On the spur of a moment, my date and I ended up at Soto, and found it absolutely delightful. The food was wonderful, the service was great, the ambience was romantic enough, and the cocktails were superb. Do it.
One of the best restaurants in North Austin, and one of the best Japanese restaurants in the Austin metro area.
Everything I’ve had there has been great quality, and the service has always been outstanding.
This is the second time my wife and I had dinner at Soto. The food was outstanding as it was the first time we dined with them a couple of months ago. Our waiter was knowledgeable of the menu items, but did try to up-sell us with several of the highest priced selections.
We dined on a Saturday night and there well several families with small children in the second dining room. I was surprised to see children at an expensive sushi restaurant. The children were a bit distracting but not enough to ruin our dining experience.
Our overall experience was very good and we will likely return on a weekday.
We love going to Soto for special occasions. I treated myself to the tasting menu this time and the food did not disappoint. Everything was delicious. I thought it was a bit overpriced given the portion sizes but it was, as always, a delicious meal and a wonderful evening!
Exceeded my insanely high expectations.
We have eaten here several times, but never their omakase (chef's tasting menu)
We will likely be getting that again in the future as everything on it was absolutely fantastic and it was a great variety.
It was a wonderful time. The sensory journey the chef took my partner and me on was extraordinary. All of the dishes were so well thought out and beautifully prepared it was almost a tragedy to eat then. They truly were little works of art incorporating senses and aspects of dining I would not have imagined. All of the dishes had some motif of flowers or fresh greens which really set them apart from other Japanese restaurant experiences and definitely set the tone for a valentine’s dinner. All in all outstanding food and service I am more than pleased and grateful to have found this establishment.
Valentine's Day dinner Omakase style. It was outstanding.
Delicious Japanese food, just be prepared to drop some cash.
We had the 8-course chef's menu for Valentine's Day, it was $100 apiece plus a $50 sake pairing (we just got one pairing). None of the 8 "courses" were more than 3 bites. It was all delicious and beautifully prepared, but after 8 courses we were both still hungry. We had to order a couple of rolls and nigiri off of their main menu just to feel like we had a full meal.
We added four cocktails @ $12 apiece, they were phenomenal. Our total bill was around $430 for the two of us, which was more than I expected on spending. The bill came with a 20% grat already added in. Good thing it was V-Day to help justify it all!
The restaurant decided to do a prix fix menu for Valentine’s Day and not offer their regular menu. That’s totally fine- if you notify people! It wasn’t fun sitting down to find out my only option to order from was the $100/person chefs tasting menu. I saw several other diners leave after discovering the price tag and only option.
Our food was very good and the service was outstanding. Surprisingly the wine and cocktails were not good. The wine tasted cheap and the cocktail was watered down.
Tried the chef’s tasting menus. Good tastes but slow service.
Second visit. Food was as delicious as it was the first time.
Celebrated an amazing birthday meal for my boyfriend at Soto. Would recommend the truffle oil edamame as an appetizer, foie gras truffle sushi, uni sushi, and of course their amazing matcha tiramisu for dessert. I don’t like fried rolls much, I’m more of a raw tuna person. This place is great if you’re into raw sushi. I’m glad there’s a nice sushi restaurant up north so I don’t have to go all the way downtown for quality sushi. The service was on point, our waitress noticed we ate a ton of ginger to cleanse our palates and she made sure we never ran out. Our cups were always filled and the cups didn’t smell fishy like some restaurants (I have a sensitive nose). Great for special occasions or if you prefer the finer things.
There was no one at the restaurant, but the waiter only came to check on us once. The waiter also knew nothing about the saki list. The main chef (or owner, unsure) was super nice and came out to our table to talk to us and tell us what was the freshest, but this was after we had already eaten...
This is our second time to Soto (wedding anniversaries, both times) and each time it was an amazing, delicious experience. This is a truly wonderful find in an unexpected location.
Outstanding service, Jonathan, our server was attentive, engaging, & helpful. We sat at the sushi bar where Teddy, Akira, & Aaron took great care of us We left the sushi choices up to them. What a delightful evening. Everything was delicious. Many thanks for a wonderful time.
Let the Sushi Chef make his favorites n you can’t loose.
A must have uis the risotto!OMG it is to die for .
It’s a little but if a drive from the DT area but well worth it .
Service was very slow. It took over 15 minutes to get a drink. We had to actively seek the attention of our waitperson whenever we needed something. Food was good, but not memorable.
This place has such a great ambiance and the tasting menu was on point. Just the right amount of food while still addressing all of the different flavor palettes and having a very amazing progression into different styles. We loved it and felt like it was an adventure for our mouths as well as our stomachs. Would def go back for the experience
Some of the best sushi in town. Chef Andy's creations never disappoint!
Exceptional food and service. This was out 5 or 6th visit, it was our first date and where we got engaged. Never had anything but the best service and food.
Great food, service and atmosphere . Nate was very accurate in his description of the plates served.
This was our second visit to Soto in the past two weeks. For starters, we love oysters and they have Kumamotos all the time. The menu is very sushi-oriented but there's plenty non-raw items for the more timid folks. We'll definitely be back.
Love the food, the drinks, the ambiance and the service!
Wonderful as always. The seafood is always fresh and wonderfully prepared. Creative and tasty dishes.
We've NEVER had a bad meal here! Quality and service were excellent as always. A must try for anyone who loves sushi!
Great server. Great food as usual. Had a great time. One of my favorite places for sushi.
Worst customer service I’ve had at a restaurant, we will not go back.
We turned to Soto because Uchiko was full of reservation. To be honest, we didn't expect that much of this restaurant, but!!!! Soto was really good. In my opinion, Soto is more like Uchi, however in different way. The method they cooked sea food was awesome--a feast of visual and gustatory. I really recommend the fire salmon, it's unbelievable....... Anyway, if you haven't been here before, this place definitely worth your try.
I didn’t get into Soto with my reservation b/c the sotoaustin website directs Open Table to the Cedar Park location. When we arrived at the Austin location the restaurant had maybe 8 people there. The hostess figured out why our name wasn’t on her list and still wouldn’t seat us. Will not try dining there again. Fix your website, Soto.
Always enjoy coming to Soto/ the food is so good and service is excellent. We have started introducing our friends to this place as well.
Can’t beleive we waitex so long to try it. Love!
We love us some SOTO. Everything on the menu is mind-blowing - you really can't make a bad choice. Chef Andy is the best! Get the chili hamachi!
Soto has the freshest sushi in town. The food was great. Unfortunately, they were understaffed on Sunday evening, but the manager did bring in help and compensated us for the slow service. I would definitely go back.
Wonderful food served, kind wait staff, but the noise level was too high since I could hear everyone's conversations and the clunking of dishes in the kitchen. Overall 8/10
Simply amazing. Chef Andy is simply excellent. His food and the choices for dishware and creative presentation is astounding. Don't miss this place. Even their sake choices are awesome
Anniversary celebration made special, once again, by Chef Andy and Team. Having moved 30 miles away, 3+ years ago, we ration our trips to Soto mostly for special celebrations.
I was lucky to have a business lunch at Soto earlier in the week that was also superb. Work colleague was a vegetarian and they had menu options, as well as special substitute options, to easily accommodate his requirements.
The food was pretty good. Some exciting dishes. HOWEVER we ordered a special dish made with "white salmon" . They should have honestly called it what it was -- Escolar, the exlax fish. Gave one diner cramping the rest of the evening and the next day.
Another problem, service was SO slow, dinner took 3 hours. Food came out one dish at a time so table of 4 did not eat together but just took turns eating with the others watching. With 10 - 15 mins between each dish. This wonderful dining experience was topped off by a toddler SCREAMING at the next table for 2 hours.
On a positive note, one diner ordered the omakase and enjoyed every bite. HOWEVER his food came out last, one dish at a time if course and the rest of us watched him eat.
Service was excellent. Food was 4/5 Stars. We were told it would be a 5 by a friend that is a foodie. It was tasty but we both agreed, it wasn’t as good (tonight) as two of our other favorites for sushi. The setting and service was 5/5. The toro sushi was also a 5. The cocktails were a 5. The rolls were authentic and excellent. It may have been us as we are accustomed to specialty rolls that are more Americanized with more spicy mayo, eel sauce, etc. We will go back as there was nothing at all to complain about. Good experience and the wait staff is really educated on the menu and cut of fish options.
From stat to finish an unforgettable experience...if I could rate it in stars, it would be 8 out of 5 stars! We love Soto, and u owe it to yourselves to try the Omakasi !
