Loved our experience at Sorrel! We sat at the bar and enjoyed the friendly staff. The oysters were delicious! We also liked the crab cake (special) and the bouillabaisse was delicious! Highly recommend!!
We have dined at Sorrel many times since it opened but our most recent dinner there was the last.
After our previous dinner there, we felt that the quality was deteriorating and were not eager to return, but our fiends wanted to try it so we caved. First off, our table was on one side of the passage leading the the room on the north side of the restaurant and it is too narrow for the servers to pass through easily, so those seated on either side are bumped and disturbed regularly so things were on a downward spiral from the start.
My crab cake appetizer was a lukewarm greasy patty composed of mostly bread crumbs with a trace of crab. I had the whole fish for my main. It was dry and had a very mushy texture, and the accompanying rapini was lukewarm. The $10 side of fries was greasy and also not hot enough. My meal went back half eaten and nobody even noticed .
The server was sloppy when he ground pepper, and for all four of us more pepper landed on the table than on the food. He pour the wine with such a heavy hand that we thought that he either wanted to be done with pouring quickly, or to ensure that we were finished with it before our mains arrived and we would order another bottle.
As always, the noise level was such that conversation was challenging.
Always a pleasure!
Great food, great place
Great food and service
Watch for the wine list. There are prices for half bottles as well as bottles
We are from Montreal. We discovered Sorrell a few years ago when it was downtown Toronto. Since then, dining at Sorrell is a must for us every time we visit Toronto (about 2-3 times per year). the food is great, the service friendly and professional, and the decor and ambiance inviting. Keep it up and see you soon!
The Bouillabaisse is outstanding and wait staff are wonderful. Our waitress was exceptional
I loved the restaurant, the food was delicious and the service very attentive.
service was perfect. food choices great.
quality of food was excellent.
cost was as expected. you want good, you pay good.
the ambiance is pleasant.
the noise level exciting. we didn't mind it.
nice to see people having a good time.
Immaculate from the welcome to the food and the wine. Thanks to the team for making our dining experience always such a pleasure.
The restaurant is decorated beautifully and feels warm and inviting. There are fresh flowers on every table, the chairs are comfortable, and the service is low-key but attentive. Everyone in our party enjoyed the delicious food, beautifully presented. When you go, try the bouillabaisse and be sure to have the French bread to go with it. Another excellent choice would be the veal scallopini.
The food and service were amazing! We had the chicken liver salad, duck confit and seafood bouillabaisse and they were all very good!
All in all an excellent experience. Definitely to be repeated on our side.
Excellent as always.
All-around fantastic experience and we have been back several times.
So we go here frequently. Generally we really enjoy it. The dinner the other night was only so so. The pasta dishes were the real disappointment but the fish and scallops were very good.
We will be back but hope for a better outing next time.
Nice spot and $1.00 oysters a good thing to see considering Toronto restos charge $4.00 regularly per piece. Portions are good and quality too.
Only thing is there was very little in terms of atmosphere. I kind of felt I was eating in the suburbs and the clientele was older than I expected on a weekend (probably 60 plus).
I would go again.
I have not given a resto a 5 star rating in Toronto.
My husband and I dined at Sorrel this evening (9/21). The food and service both were amazing!
We began with the grilled calamari followed by a mixed greens salad for me and the mozzarella/tomato salad for my husband. Everything was delicious! Portion sizes were just right. For our mains, my husband had the prawns and I had the bouillabaisse. The bouillabaisse had a generous amount of scallops, shrimp, clams & mussels. The prawns were huge and delicious. Because we’re gluttons, we also split the flourless chocolate cake for dessert. Decadent and chocolatey, just the way it should be.
Not only was the meal wonderful, so was the service. Shout out to Barry, who was so patient as I took some time to decide what I wanted to drink and eat! His service (and that of the other wait staff) was flawless.
We WILL be back!
Perfect spot in every way to dine. We will be back!
Great atmosphere with attentive staff and delicious food great oysters
Wonderful restaurant. Great food and service
Sorrel is always consistent with the food and service. The staff is friendly and professional and the food is delicious. The atmosphere is warm and inviting. The perfect neighbourhood spot! A bonus that night...we managed to have the famous lemon tart for dessert.
Our 11 year anniversary. A very special time. Everything was delicious. Only opportunity area was a small gesture recognizing our anniversary. Other than that, one of the best places I have been too!
We were a party of 6 celebrating a 40th birthday and the evening was spectacular. The food was outstanding and the service impeccable and unobtrusive. Sorrel was a recommendation from dear friends and they were right on the money. The duck confit is delicious and the wine list impressive. Would go back in a heartbeat......if only I lived in Toronto!
I assume this mediocre experience was a one off. Its usually better.
Excellent food and service. Thank you! I already recommended Sorrel to my office friends.
It was the first time for our friends dining at Sorrel and it did not disappoint. Our server was great and attentive and the food was delicious from appetizers to main course. We passed on dessert. Highly recommend
Sorrel is our favourite place to dine, the staff are so welcoming, the food is excellent and the prices are reasonable .
Awesome meal Barry delivered as always!!
We have dined at Sorrel many times since it opened. It has always been extremely noisy, so we expect that when we make a reservation.
The menu changes very little, and having been there a number of times is seems quite repetitive, and boring.
They have not maintained the quality of the food; last time we were there i thought that things were slipping and this time i found the confit de canard that i ordered for my main was dry and tasteless. The sauce had no discernible flavor. I ordered frites with it and they were lukewarm and soggy. I sent them back and the replacements were hot and soggy. Why is it that McDonalds is able to serve fries that are so much better than most higher end places.
To be fair, the seared scalllops are generally excellent and considering the price of dry pack scallops in the fish market, they are priced quite reasonably. It would be nice to see another presentation other than with creamed cauliflower which is not something i want to eat very often.
another place added to my "do not rush back to" list.
The menu is wonderfully varied and food quality is excellent.......great room, great location......a wonderful night out........will be back!
table service excellent, kitchen a bit slow, but was a busy night
Great food, great service! Wonderful dining experience.
Outstanding food and service. Only issue is the acoustic level is poor so very challenging to have a conversation.
A birthday dinner on a holiday Monday evening, so very quiet in the restaurant - excellent as always
Always love the service and food at Sorrel. The staff are very knowledgeable about pairing wines, and food is cooked to perfection
Consistently great food, perfect service and lovely atmosphere!
Our waiter at Sorrel was extremely helpful and professional. The restaurant got a little noisy, but the atmosphere was cheery and the staff friendly. I think my friends enjoyed their meal, but mine was mediocre. The chilled peas soup was very watery and fairly bland. The tuna tartare tasted strongly of sesame seed oil, but there was very little acid to cut the oil. I asked for lemon to squeeze on the tartare. That helped, as well as salt and pepper.
The whole experience was great. Service was attentive but not overbearing - just there when needed. Food was delicious. Only small complaint would be the oysters are not detached from the shell and there were some chips of shell in most of the oysters. But they were still fresh and tasty.
We always love dining at Sorrel. The food is superb and the service is just perfect for us - conscientious and very friendly. We are always given our favourite table and the staff are flexible with menu adaptations. Sincere thanks to all!!
