We have come to truly enjoy the Sopra Bistro experience!
Our server was wonderful and the food was fabulous! The grilled octopus was the best ever!
Normally this is a good dining experience. However, the last couple times have been progressively worsening. This time it was generally not good and will be the last time we will eat there. I ordered a pork chop that was extremely dry and overcooked and the "potatoes and grilled cabbage" amounted to a half cup total. There was no flavor to my wife's pasta at all; we brought most home and ended up adding some brie to it for flavor. The chunks of bacon in it were almost entirely fat and connective tissue instead of meat. It took an hour and ten minutes to get our food. I used to recommend the place but I cant anymore...not after our last couple visits.
The food here was very good. We had the scallops and grilled octopus, both delicious.
However, the service was very poor. We had reservations at 8pm and were seated immediately. Drinks came pretty quickly, but the food took forever to come to the table. Even the appetizer (grilled olives) took 20 minutes to come out. They were not that busy, only a few tables inside were occupied. We probably waited an hour at least for the main courses to come out. And not once did the waitress ask us if we needed or anything or give us update on our food. If their service was better I would be giving a better review.
Octopus appetizer was very good. Catfish dinner served on fingerling potatoes in a potato salad like dressing was good but the fish was undercooked. Not sure why as the place wasn’t busy by the time we ordered.
Service was good, nothing exceptional.
This is our second visit and exceptional food service and atmosphere
Fabulous flavors for all entrées and appetizers ( and special cocktails) Best duck I’ve had since leaving New England. Rave Reviews for the salmon and grilled octopus. Chef does not disappoint. First in-restaurant dining for us since COVID-19. I was surprised the hostess and servers weren’t wearing masks but they did a good job of separating tables so it felt safe. Warm, welcoming and helpful service overall. Sorry Medusa, Sopra has my number one vote.
Lovely staff - very friendly! The food was amazing!
The restaurant was nice but we had to send the octopus back twice. The first time it was charred burnt crispy. The second time it was raw. The third time it was just right. My scallop entree was tasty good. The waitress was indifferent about our food. She projected that she didn't want to be there. I'll go back and give them another try because I think my daughter would love their pasta dishes.
We had come here before and chose it for a birthday dinner because of such a great experience the first time we were there. This time was different. The main course was average and didn’t have a lot of flavor. We got the duck and the pork. We got olives for an appetizer and although the taste was good, many of the olives were very tiny and difficult to eat. The lobster wontons were very good and the sauce was delicious. We also got a chop salad which was flavorful.
The main issue was that when we ordered our appetizers we were told that we had to also order the rest of our meal at that time. When we dine out we like to take our time and enjoy ourselves and relax and after we eat our appetizers and salad than we like to decide what to have for our entrée based on how full we are and what sounds good for our next course. We were told that the chef doesn’t do it that way. We were told that he requires that the entire order replaced at the beginning. We weren’t thrilled about this but went ahead and ordered our entire meal. We told the server that we were concerned that we might be rushed if we placed our order all at once. She assured us that she would pave the meal for us.
We received both of our appetizers and our salad all at the same time. We weren’t happy that the appetizers and salad were not brought separately but we went ahead and started eating. When we were not even halfway through with those items or meals were delivered by someone other than our server. When our server came by we told her that we weren’t anywhere near ready for our entrees and reminded her that she said she would pace the meal for us to have a relaxing night.
We always tip extremely well and this night we tipped just 20% because we were rushed. Dining isn’t just about food it’s about the experience for us. We don’t think we will return
Our go-to dining when in Lake Geneva. Doing a great job during COVID-19 with making everything safe & still enjoyable.
It was good. Expensive . Atmosphere was bland and our server wasn’t terribly friendly. The bus girl was very attentive
My girlfriend and I had a great dinner at Sopra Bistro. The food and drinks are well worth the higher prices. Service was great, and everything was cooked to perfection.
This was our first time dining out in 3 months and Sopra made us feel immediately comfortable dining before we even walked in the door! Staff was friendly and helpful, and the food was amazing as always! The octopus appetizer is always a favorite. I appreciate all the things Sopra did to make their customers feel safe and would absolutely recommend it to all! Its our favorite date night spot and we cannot wait to go back.
We were outdoors so it was a little loud on the street. Nothing unexpected. Service was exemplary and the food, though not inexpensive was as great as ever.
Can’t wait to go back-best pork chop I ever had!
It was good but with social distancing, the ambiance really was different. Not the restaurant fault.
Most importantly,
The maitre d' was exceptionally helpful - though we got caught in two different sets of boat traffic and were 45 minutes late - when I explained the distance we traveled and the events - he was kind enough to find us a seat!!!
Everything was very good - but my younger daughter had noodles with butter - they charged $24.00.
They were kind enough to reconsider to $15.00 - still surprising...but I was thankful for the consideration and sincerely grateful for being able to get in!
Sat outside which was nice, but tables in a heavily trafficked area flanked by pedestrians on one side and cars on the other. Service was ok, the girl was in and out a lot, so made me wonder if she also had tables inside. Table was barely wiped down with only 1 disinfecting wipe (and being a nurse, I know that was not enough to properly clean the surface in any environment). The food, however, was outstanding. I would definitely return again just for the gnocchi, and I usually don’t like the texture of gnocchi. The goat cheese was delicious, as was the chopped salad.
This was our first night out for dinner in a couple months and wow did they not disappoint! Everything from our appetizers, entree’s to the wine was fantastic. We will definitely be coming back.
It was our first time out after a lot quarantine in IL, and our experience couldn’t have been better. The service was excellent, and the food was tasty. Will definitely return!
Great even duringCovid!!
Great experience considering the first weekend they were open post COVID.
Great effort to make sure we had a great dinner outside.
It was my birthday. I’m happy my husband picked this restaurant! It was delish😋
This self proclaimed foodie was very excited to go as I had heard good things and read up on the restaurant and chef before going.
We were seated in the upstairs at a table for two. It was quaint up there but as the night went on, it was extremely loud for the amount of tables in the small area.
We ordered drinks and an appetizer. I highly recommend the grilled Caesar salad. It was fantastic. A great blend of charred Romaine with creamy dressing and topped with capers and shaved Parmesan. Possibly the best salad I’ve had in a while.
The main course was a New York strip steak. Presentation was sloppier than expected. The steak was served partially sliced which looked more like someone was testing for doneness vs aesthetic purposes. It was accompanied by grilled asparagus that was hidden beneath the steak and a very large portion of fries with a heavy hand of truffle oil.
Plated better this may have been more appealing, but it certainly would not have me returning to order it again.
Overall my first experience was not as I had hoped.
Drinks were great but when it came to the food the orders were never right, including diners surrounding us had the same issue. Steak that was asked to be rare came out well done not only for myself but the people next to us. The waiters also rarely check in. Would not recommend for food.
Great meal and I highly recommend it for a nice dinner!
Food was outstanding! The Lobster Won Tons, the parsnip soup, the whitefish. Oh and the margarita was divine!!!
Excellent food every time! Love Sopra! Every thing is made to order and is wonderful. I especially like the spinach salad with the homemade ranch dressing.
Best restaurant in Lake Geneva for farm to table organic experience Cannot edit your try more items on menu. We had a wonderful Valentines Day there!
The food was delicious but you have to order your entire meal all at once...appetizers, mains, etc which made it a little awkward and rushed. Our server didn’t come back to check on us very often, but the atmosphere was really intimate and pretty. Great for a date night or special occasion.
Wonderful meal with interesting preparation. Busy when we arrived, the room has a lot of hard surfaces so somewhat noisy. Very creative food combinations, deliciously prepared
Great food and atmosphere. Great specials love the roasted olives
The experience is comparable to the better restaurants in Milwaukee's Third Ward or Walker Point. I'd expected some issues dining during prime evening hours of the very busy Lake Geneva Winterfest. Pleasantly surprised, seating was prompt, service was very good, and food/wine was excellent, tho the place was packed. Have visited several times over the years, and they've made strides in dampening the noise level, but I wish they'd still knock it down another notch somehow.
A wonderful experience! You can tell they care about the food that leaves the kitchen.
The food was delicious, but it seemed a bit overpriced. For an appetizer of fried goat cheese, you got two fried goat cheese rounds. The pastas were delicious, but once again pricey for a pasta dish. Our waitress automatically charged us for doubles when a tequila on the rocks and bourbon on the rocks were ordered. The dessert menu wasn't appealing so we skipped it. Overall, the food was delicious, but it was expensive.
The ambiance is great. The food and presentation has great taste and presentation.
Lovely experience overall! Great food and service.
We've been there many times. This meal happened to be the first time we were disappointed. The service was lacking. The wait was excessive. But, the food was very good. We will be back again but they better get their act together.
Sat at the bar and really had an enjoyable time. The food was amazing and there is a nice wine selection.
