Son'z Steakhouse Ratings and Reviews
The meal started out well. The service was good and then we ordered our food and it all went downhill from there. About an hour later, we were still waiting for our food, while people who sat down 30 minutes after we did already ate and left. I ordered a chopped salad which was missing the avocado and shrimp, but was LOADED with onion. When we told one of the servers that came by our table, he asked if i wanted him to bring me some avocado . I told him i was already finished with my salad and he said in a very passive aggressive way, “I’ll just comp the salad for you,” and he walked away. My husband and I looked at each other like, “what just happened?” I mean, for $14, I literally received an extremely small salad with 3 kalamata olives, a ton of white onion, watercress and hearts of palm. It was worth maybe $5 or $6 at the most. I’ve had dinner salads bigger and better than that. My daughter’s noodles were over-cooked and my husband’s $10 baked potato wasn’t cooked all the way through. The only thing he liked was the steak he ordered, which definitely wasn’t worth $47. It was just a sad meal with terrible service. We couldn’t wait to get the check and leave. This place has a lot of nerve charging Mastro’s prices in a coffee shop environment. We absolutely would never eat here again.
I’m sorry to say that our experience was disappointing since we love other restaurants run by this company. The food is uninventive, standard steak house fare. Medium quality. Great wine list but we tried a Paso Robles Zinfandel that was not good at all and should be removed from their selection.
Overall, a very good experience. The mahi was perfectly prepared and delicious. The spaghetti and filet mignon meatballs was disappointing - ho-hum spaghetti with very good much way too much meatballs. Service was adequate, but not terribly attentive. We asked for extra bread, were told "of course" and never heard anything else about bread. Drinks were not refilled, no offer made. These are not terrible problems except at fine dining prices they are not acceptable.
The food was absolutely delicious, however, it was unbelievably expensive. An 8-ounce steak was $47 with no sides or vegetables or anything. Our bill was $107 for two glasses of wine, a crab cake, and an 8-ounce filet. Service was great and the ambience was wonderful, it was just so expensive for very little food.
It was our very first trip to Maui and our 30th anniversary. We wanted a really nice dinner to celebrate. We thought this would be nice since we did not need to leave our hotel. I was highly disappointed as they were out of lobster??? Our drinks were slow to come and it was very expensive. We shared a steak and they charged us to split it and they knew it was our 30th anniversary and we did not even get a dessert offered to us. Alk they said when i said...you are really out of lobster??? The rude waitress said..sorry I know it's your special day? Not even a bite of cake for free...very disappointed and even in the Hyatt where we are staying. Find another place to eat for sure for dinner!!!
We saw our waiter when he took the order and never again. Another person brought dinner and drinks. Asked another waiter for drinks later and he never showed BUT charged for us for the drinks we never received. 1st time ever I gave such a low tip. Told manager about bill and circumstances and they took all drinks off for compensation. Credit card sat on table until we had to flag down someone to get it. They hadn't come because they thought we were going to put the bill on our room. We were NOT EVEN staying there and will not go back. It could have been worse, it could have been our anniversary...
Oh ya, it WAS! I used Open Table and they knew it was our anniversary.
Went for girlfriends birthday, service was extremely slow. Asked to be seated by window as multiple tables were open, nope.
After waiting almost 30 mins to order, was told steak no longer available as of two minutes before and upsold. Asked if they could give me price of steak I wanted since we should have ordered sooner, but nope not their problem. Told me he would check if there’s anything they could do, didn’t see waiter again until long we nearly finished eating.
Finally told them we were there for birthday and said no problem we have lava cake. Did not say they’d be adding that to the bill as well.
Waiter seemed to avoid us until time for check.
Overall poor service and bad communication.
I would never eat hear again. After 15 minutes had to ask if we had a waiter. Then steaks were rare and order med well. A steak house should know how to cook a steak. The service was awful and after sending back steak. We finically just had them take off bill. But wouldn't even comp us a round of drinks which was 4. They comp 2. No manager came over. Very poorly run.
The food was delicious, but I couldn't get a second drink. Lots of servers, but no one asked about my cocktail or if I wanted a glass of wine. Lost $$$ for restaurant and gratuity for server. I actually asked for the wine menu twice, once I had it - no one followed up to take an order. Because the restaurant is "open air" it was very warm.
Super convenient as we are also staying at the Hyatt, beautiful location. I had the fish special, local mahi mahi, and it was amazing. Full bar, so we both had delicious cocktails. My husband had the shrimp scampi, and they were enormous! Delicious, but pricy, pretty normal for Maui resort restaurants. We will go again! Small side note, if you’re afraid of birds, don’t go in there! It’s open on one side, with netting, but the little buggers still get in!
Service and food was not good. We ordered escargot and Calamri for appetizers, t was awful. You should just order Calamari at the pool bar at the Hyatt residence and it was delish. For our main entre's we had rib eye, filet and lobster. Lobster was over cooked and steak was OK. Save your money and go else where. The food is not worth the cost. On a positive note, they did have a nice wine selection. That was the only thing that was good!
My partner and I were staying at the hotel (which we absolutely loved by the way!)
Sonz steakhouse was perfect for us as the ambience was very romantic as it was candlelit. Your view was of swans and other feathered animals on a well kept pond (I believe it was a pond!)
The grounds surrounding the hotel are nothing but short of amazing.
This is perfect for non paying guests if you want a romantic meal and also if your a paying guest and if you want a romantic meal but are too tired to go outside of the resort. Both me and my partner were getting up early each day to participate in different excursions so by the time it hit 6/7pm we were shattered. Having a nice restaurant in the resort enabled us to get dressed up and have a date night without having to get in the car and drive to a plush restaurant every evening.
Restaurant wasnt busy upon arrival. Servers were quick to bring water and Bread. It was all down hill after we ordered. Salads didn't arrive for 40 mins. Hot food came out cold. I believe they realized they forgot the salads after the chef plated the main course and put under heat lamp.
Kids had ice cream included with the order. The server mentioned bringing the ice cream but never Did. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone at this point in time.
For an upscale steakhouse it wasn't as high quality meat offering that I expected. NY strip had a lot of fat and the taste was pretty bland.
The service was great and the staff did a nice job. Good spot for a date, but important to manage expectations before you go.
