Sonsie - Boston
Canadian bacon, hollandaise, brunch potatoes
Roasted Peking Duck Breast
vegetable fried rice, scallion pancake, plum sauce
Went for brunch - they definitely had good coffee but it I felt the brunch was very standard and not very well done. Food was extremely average, which surprised me because people seem to rave about the brunch. However, service was decent and the ambience was nice (french syled cafe dining).
SO GOOD! Super cute, great atmosphere, and great bananas foster french toast. A little pricey but great for a nice brunch.
The food was fine (I ordered the steak rare and it was definitely closer to Medium but it wasn’t terrible). The biggest issue though was the service. We got seated right next to the front door so the wind coming in each time somebody came in or out was very annoying and made us cold and uncomfortable. I tried to get our server to see if we could move but his trips to our table were so few and far between that after he ignored my request the first time, the next time I could ask him our food had already arrived. We were frequently looking around trying to get someone to get us another drink and it was impossible. I understand being understaffed I’ve been there before and would never hold it against the servers but in this case I was frequently seeing them all congregating talking behind the bar while the restaurant was packed at prime hours on a Friday night. It was very frustrating and when we were finally able to get our servers attention he was rude to us as if we were bothering him by wanting a drink. Like I said, I’ve worked in the industry and understand that things happen but it was a really unpleasant experience for a Friday date night and afterwords we both wished we stayed home.
This used to be a wonderful place. Now the food is ok but not as good as it used to be
Good food excellent service beautiful place good drinks
One of my favorite Boston restaurants, and it never disappoints. The salmon with sweet pea puree was delicious, the wine was yummy, and the service no-nonsense and covid-safe. Thank you, I will be back again soon.
Our first time back to Sonsie since March 2020. The food was excellent, clear safety precautions were in place, and the service was outstanding! Can’t wait to go back.
We went to Sonsie for Easter dinner and the food was absolutely fantastic. We have a bunch of picky eaters and they loved the salad, pizza (ended up ordering a 2nd because it was so good), and the pastas. We can’t wait to come back to try the brunch menu as well.
My eggs were over cooked. Lights in bathroom area were way to dark.
Food was very good and portions large! The waitress was very accommodating as we asked to move tables. Would recommend!
They’ve done a great job with open windows and covid seating but it was a bit chilly.
i would say the noise level was a bit too loud. hard to hear each other and felt like we needed to shout. could've reduced the music volume a bit in the main dining area.
Slow service. Food just ok.
The food was decent, but was a bit cold. We had to wait over an hour for our food even though we were one of the first peoples to arrive. Our waiter was not friendly and had a terrible attitude.
The food was disappointing.
A kale salad had mostly romaine lettuce.
The noodle dish was so spicy and lacking in any chicken or pork that it wasn't worth the $28.
By the way I am a spice kind of guy.
The Jack Abbey blood Orange was a beer worse trying and having a second.
Overall sad experience
food was fantastic. Can wax rhapsodic about the wild boar ragout and the pizzas. so yummy. the service was terrific. everyone was very friendly. great wine suggestions. capped it all off with the chocolate bread pudding.... mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
Go on a day when the doors are wide open. Otherwise it felt crowded to me. I wasn't sure about the air circulation inside.
Great end to a wonderful birthday weekend!
Very good food! I usually get the Eggs Benedict, and I am always pleased! Plus, Sonsie has an inviting atmosphere, especially when there is good weather.
It was amazing and the service was great
This place was recommended by a local as we were not from the area. The taste of the food was really good but perhaps there was an issue with Staffing because it was cold. The manager sought us out and went above and beyond to correct this. The server was also excellent. Hopefully just an isolated incident. Otherwise was pleased with the food and atmosphere of the establishment. Would definitely give it another try and plan on going back to the area later this year.
Overall, a very good experience! The only negative would be that the music was too loud.
Even my 30ish daughter complained as well.
Such a fun spot. The eggs Benedict was great!
Food was alright. Beer list is small. Pitchers really watered down.
Took 5ever for food to come. Waitress seemed to completely ignore us.
Waiter kept taking off his mask. The hostess wasn’t pleasant at all. There was a drunk person screaming the entire time. We waited 20 mins before we were addresse
The service was good as well as the food. The latte was excellent. A Good spot for brunch.
Service was very slow and the restaurant was absolutely freezing, but a good meal.
This is the only time that i have been to Sonsie throughout the years that I had a legitimate mediocre service! Absolutely horrible! The Waiter ignored us fo the first 10 minutes there. After we put it our initial order we did not see him for the next one and a half hours. He never bothered to check if we needed a drink, desert etc. When my wife spotted him and asked for the check. He later on came and tossed it on the table.
I’ve had similar service elsewhere but it was either due to low staffing and the waiter being overwhelmed, or even the waiter not having a good day. In those instances i completely understood and even left a generous tip to cheer their day on.
This not one of those instances.
But i will not let this one instance define Sonsie as a restaurant for me. I’ve been going there for over 15 years regularly, and have always had great time there.
We were very disappointed in the service. The hostess was unfriendly and far from helpful. Using the restroom was a hassle due to Covid rules. There was a single bathroom available and it was in a location near someone’s table. It was awkward to wait and the hostess did nothing to facilitate use. We had a difficult time getting staff attention and had to go to the front to get our check. The food and drinks were delicious but the service ruined the experience.
Too much oil on pizza but yummy
Bday celebration for my gf! They were accommodating to our request for a table with as much separation to other parties as possible and the food, wine and service was great. We love going to Sonsie every so often
Love this place it was a slow Tuesday night enjoyed our time
crisply noodle dish had dry tasting fish n meets. Overcooked or re-cooked. Romaine Salad was standard fare. Service was good, quiet due to Covid and time.
Exceptional brunch experience! Great care has been taken with distancing their tables. I'd go back-for sure...and I am from Buffalo, NY so it is quite a drive!
very good food and good atmosphere and good service
My wife loved the ambience and food. This place is frequented by sports celb.
Went to Sonsie to celebrate 1 year anniversary and what made our experience was our server Lucas. He was so friendly and kind. He offered lemons with the water and the way he opened the wine bottle we ordered was fantastic. Everything we ordered was delicious and tasty.
We will come back for sure. Thanks Lucas again for the outstanding service!
Awesome!! Had 3 different dishes to share, all were A+
Sonsie is one of our personal favorites. Reliably delicious, great service, and a good atmosphere. We asked to move to a more cozy booth and I even asked if I could order from the lunch menu and they were happy to accommodate. If you haven't tried the hamburger pizza -- you need to. ASAP.
Its a nice place, love the drinks! The oysters and brunch was delicious. Customer service was excellent. The waitress checked on us frequently but didn't over due it. Positive attitude. Will recommend to friends :)
