Sonsie - Boston
A 9PM reservation on Valentine's Day was a bit of a risky move but I figured I'd give Sonsie a shot. We were seated almost shoulder to shoulder with couples on each side of us. The service was actually not bad given the amount of people in there and the drinks were strong. Both pluses.
However the food was a disappointment. My girlfriend ordered the tagliatelle, which was under portioned and way over seasoned with garlic. She couldn't even finish it and she loves Italian food. My steak frites, which I think was a $28 entree, was under cooked and too rare and sat among a bed of barely warm shoestring fries. The "herb cultured butter" was cold and sat like a hockey puck on the steak.
Unfortunately, I believe the chef/cooks were stretched thin cranking out plates all night that they missed the boat on our orders and our experience suffered because of it. Probably won't return for dinner but might give brunch a shot.
Amazing Food, had the lobster spring roll and roasted duck , service was pretty good . I will definitely be going back great value, spent $100 for 2 people
We came for brunch. It was a fun trendy thing to do. I wouldn’t consider e on the regular. It is loud, busy and felt rushed. But it was what I expected
The smoked salmon rangoons were a truly delicious appetizer, the pork short ribs were pleasantly tender (they desperately could have used some mashed potatoes or polenta) and juicy, but the most decadent surprise of all was the white pizza with butternut squash and béchamel — I could literally eat this every day. Service was good. Great date night vibe.
The service was excellent and our group of 5 had a variety of dishes that everyone said were excellent. I had the clam chowder that was some of the best chowder I’ve ever had, highly recommend. Great ambiance, we sat near the back of the restaurant where the sound level was better for conversation than up near the bar area. I recommend Sonsie and will come back the next time I’m in Boston.
Great food and ambience.
They gave us champagne for our anniversary which was really kind. The food is unbelievable, lunch and brunch foods, and the Bloody Mary was SO good! Lots of spices :) definitely will be back!
Horrible service. We were seated for 20 minutes and no one came to our table, not even to fill our waters. We asked for help twice from various servers and still no one helped us.
Sonsie was our second choice due to scheduling and it turned out to be the best choice. Excellent food, great service, nice atmosphere. Food delivered in a timely manner. Pretty good menu selection with a lot of varied foods. My selection (Salmon and bagels) was excellent.
Amazing food, but our service was so horrible it made the experience blah. Our server introduced herself and said sorry I will be back. (In my opinion she could have at least quickly taken our 4 drink orders). She returned and took the drink order, app and meal order all at once (THIS IS THE TYPE OF SERVICE I EXPECT AT CHILI'S NOT SONSIE!)
Then our drinks came out with the appetizer about 20 min later! (1 mimosa, 2 iced coffee, 1 bloody mary and red lentil Hummus). Sitting there for that amount of time without drinks was ridiculous. Our food came, she popped by to see how it was and left before any of us could ask for another cocktail. So yes we finished our meal without seeing her again and with empty glasses... At least the person filling our waters was attentive!
The visit started off weird. I had a 12:15 reservation and the place was packed. The host was about to seat me (there were seats available) when the manager came up, whispered in his ear, and then said it would be a 10-15 min wait. What? 🤔 The manager didn’t explain why, but the host was super nice about it.
Cut to actually being seated. The food was excellent, value for money especially for Boston brunch, and the seating we had was prime. We faced out onto Newbury St and even though we were in front of the windows, it was pretty warm. Host was nice, food came out quickly, bill came out fast too.
Can’t complain besides the first weird interaction. Nothing in particular to write home about, but would be back again!
Wow, we had not been to Sonsie in years, but they still have it. Fun (but loud) atmosphere, food was good, service on point. Very crowded, be sure to have a reservation!
We ended up ordering 2 rounds of apps since everything on the menu looked amazing. It was.
We have to go back to get to the entree portion of the menu.
We enjoyed our evening at Sonsie, food was good, our server was fun and helpful, and we appreciated the wine option of 6 oz or 9 oz pour - also the tables were nicely spaced and not too close together. Would go back!
For the price you pay service and food should not be this lackluster. It wasn’t a terrible experience but I wouldn’t recommend it.
We had a great brunch at Sonsie. Highly recommend going there for the food and ambience. A little loud but not so much that we couldn't talk. Eggs benedict, quiche lorraine, white pizza, mashed potato pizza, all were delicious!
Nice ambience and good waiter but wine was way over priced and my Hake dinner was greasy and not very flavorful...disappointing. My friends had salmon which they loved and a burger which was over done. Guess it’s hit or miss but too expensive for what you get.
Energetic, friendly service, quality brunch with Cuban sandwich and Eggs Benedict. Recommend sitting at the bar or high tops across from bar as noise level more manageable.
Perfect experience from start to finish!
Awfully noisy on the weekend, don't expect a good conversation with your dinner companions or reliable communication with your server. Better on a quiet weeknight, if you go sit at the bar. Food is reliably good.
I ordered the duck. Best I’ve ever had. The mussels appetizer was outstanding as well.
Our meal at Sonsie's was outstanding in every respect. The decor is sophisticated and eclectic, the staff is efficient and attentive and the food is delicious. Our appetizers of Salmon Rangoon with sweet chili sauce and lamb meatballs had just the right amount of kick to the sauces. We chose the short rib and the duck breast and both were tender and cooked to perfection. For dessert we shared a chocolate pot de creme which melted in our mouths. The craft cocktails were interesting and delicious as were the wines. It was a very special meal.
It’s too bad the pancakes came off the Brunch Menu—please consider adding them back!!!
Great spot for a birthday brunch!
Experience was OK. I would neither recommend nor completely discourage someone else from giving it a try. Limited menu. 3 people liked their food, but my pork shank was 50%+ fat. Atmosphere very dark and a bit noisy. Again, OK.
Wasn't good for us.
Expensive, not enough food on each dishes. Not good service
Sonsie has a wonderful atmosphere and ambiance but the food was very subpar. I will say though, the caesar salad was awesome. But, the other food just did not fit the expectations from such an elegant restaurant vibe.
Great place! We go on occasion for brunch. Fun place and good food and drinks. Mimosas are great there!
Great dinner and service. Atmosphere was great and warm especially on a cold rainy night.
Stylish ambience, excellent food, prompt service. Perfect for anything from a business lunch to a special date. Highly recommended.
Sonsie has a nice atmosphere with good energy in a good location on Newbury Street. The food was not as good on the last visit as I remember. The waiter was friendly, but not very knowledgeable about the menu or wine list.
When I arrived at 4.45 pm I was not seated. No one in the restaurant. Then a couple gets seated before me.
I go up to host and ask him when I will be seated????? It is 5:10 pm.....He looks at me strange.....They give me a table right in front snd we were freezing. There was cold air. We kept out coats on the entire meal.
The food was delicious. Large portions and a good price. The holiday decorations were perfect! The only thing was that the waiter messed up a drink order. But he was very kind and good otherwise! Definitely recommend
Was in town for a New Year’s Eve wedding & had dinner here the night before. Good location that was walking distance from our hotel. Food was very good & liked the menu variety. Some seasonal cocktails were available. Waitress was attentive. Prices were reasonable. Overall a great experience & would recommend.
Been back several times over many years. Pizza’s are great, feel is great and always busy.
Was really disappointed with the recent Sunday brunch. All the egg dishes were scorched. Even the over easy was brown.
Very nice place :)
Not at all impressed. They had no cream for coffee at brunch??? Then we ordered and my meal arrived and the rest of the meals took over 30 mins to be delivered. I felt bad for the waitress who did a fine job considering all the strikes she was up against. The salad was underwhelming, but my daughter liked the BLT sandwich. The egg dish was average and the pizza looked small, but he ate it. The prices were expensive for the items we received.
I definitely will not return, nor would I recommend it for anyone expecting a nice brunch.
This place has changed a bit since I was ther the first year of opening. Still very good today.
