Sonsie - Boston
Pizzas served daily to 1230am
Overcrowded and noisy. Food was just okay. Could hardly have a conversation without yelling. Food was nothing special.
Took my aunt for brunch on her first trip to Boston and we had a delightful time! Very energetic Saturday brunch atmosphere, delicious food. We went in November, but it looks like they can open up the floor to ceiling windows at the front of the restaurant in the summer so you can get a warm breeze and view of the street. I'll be back in the warm season to check it out!
Great service and the food was very good.
Music too loud for a comfortable business conversation
Food was good. They allowed us to linger after our meal to finish our meeting.
I had a great experience my first visit in September but last night the server was not on par. He seemed distracted and not on top of things, despite it being a slow Monday night.
I came on a Sunday afternoon a little after noon time, and we were seated relatively quickly. I ordered huevos rancheros and requested the salsa on the side. I said it pretty slowly because the waiter seemed newish, but when the food came the salsa was on the meal and they also brought over guac and sour cream, which I didn't order because I saw on the menu that it's a $3 upcharge. The person who brought the food out said that if you don't say anything, it's assumed that guac is included.... yeah you need to fix that asap since it's clearly stated on the menu that it's a $3 upcharge and technically someone could also be surprised if something is brought out that they didn't request and they have an allergy to it.
Anyways, I like Sonsie overall because the ambiance is nice, the menu has more unique options than other places on Newbury and it's reasonably priced. The huevos rancheros looked small in Yelp photos but when it was served it was actually quite large, arranged in layers in a skillet. I would order it again but please don't do that move with bringing out guac when it's not requested.
Also the cold brew is pretty flavorful and smooth so it was a nice pairing with my meal. The only thing I would suggest is make sure waiters take better notes and don't bring out items that aren't requested.
Delicious food, in a fun comfortable upscale environment. The staff is always very friendly and attentive. Love this place!
We had a 8:00 reservation and was delayed about 15 minutes. In that time the Maitre d bought us a round of drinks. Tats unheard of but that is a true professional. Thank you. This is a fun and loud places and the food is really good. Enjoy.
Very enjoyable experience. The food and service were excellent. A bit loud for dinner conversation, so would suggest going early.
It was a Monday night so I’m cutting them some slack. Service was weak. Not attentive or polished. Gaps without seeing server. Had to send others to find him. Wasn’t that busy.
Entrees were liked by all. Pizza from their wood burning oven was a hit as were the pasta entries. Filet was well executed with good accompaniments.
The restaurant was pretty empty since it was Monday. You’d be shouting across the table if it was full.
Had been there for breakfast and loved it. Based on other reviews, underwhelmed.
We meet our two grown children for brunch at Sonsie a few times a year. It’s in a great location on Newbury so lots to see and great to walk around after eating. Food is terrific, we’ve never had a complaint. It’s a busy place for brunch so service can be slow but it’s fine if you’re not in a rush. Seats are a little close together so it does get loud which would be my only complaint. The people are super nice and reservations are easy.
Hadn't been in years but it was a happening place for Sunday brunch. Service could be better.
Uncomfortable, crowded cafe chairs and tables crammed together so diners have no space and staff have difficulty maneuvering which could be ignored if food and service were good. My burger was ordered medium rare and was delivered well done. The server didn't return until after my dining companion had finished their meal, mine was uneaten but, too late to send back and she actually never asked if I wanted something else.
Birthday dinner. Nothing wrong with anything. Food and service was good just not great.
The food was great as well as the service. Great atmosphere!
Great date spot. Only critique . . . My date ordered a beer and i ordered a club soda. I never got the club soda.
Never disappoints. Great food, great service great buzz. The best!!!
They served me raw chicken, literally. And that was only one of the many issues of the night. Good for drinks, avoid eating there. They barely apologized.
After spending quite a bit of time searching for a non-traditional brunch spot that also offered cocktails, we found Sonsie. We visit our son in school often (short trip from RI). Even better, on a busy Sunday was the ability to make a reservation online. We got there and the atmosphere was wonderful - tables a little crowded to each other, but you did not feel like you were on top of anyone else's conversation. We showed up about 40 minutes early for our reservation, with full anticipation to wait. The hostess was polite and friendly, checking us in immediately. Food selection was great, and not your standard eggs and bacon. Drink menu was full bar and creative. The waiter was nice enough, but not the best service I have had. But, it was busy and could have just been an off day. He was nice, he just didn't wow me. I have already recommended to coworkers who visit Boston often to try Sonsie. We will without a doubt be back again! One suggestion if not already considered - may already be an option, but if not, would love to try the stuffed French toast with gluten free bread if not already an option next time I come in!
I had brunch with a friend here today. Overall it's ok. Just the avocado toast is not what I thought. So much tuna, so less avocado. Not a Instagram-picture dish, at all.
Smoked salmon was outstanding. Waitress was busy but attentive.
Great wine selection and tasty cocktails
Meals not as pictured. Cold and dark environment.
Food and ambiance are great. Wait staff was clearly new to the job. A little more training would have been helpful.
Kitchen and waitstaff overwhelmed. Food marginal
I am giving them a 3.5/5 for this review. I like the restaurant overall but there were a few shortcomings. The waitress was nice but it often took a long time for her to get back. They seems to run out of brunch items quickly as two things I asked for they didn't have. The waitress ended up giving us our drinks for free because she could see how annoying it was. My mother ordered a dish and they didn't give her the hash that was included with it. She didn't want to bother asking for it because it understandingly took a while for things to come out. I listed on here that I was scheduling this for my mother's birthday. I called beforehand to ask if they did anything for birthdays and was told they do. The host or whoever has this information didn't seem to rely the message because they didn't do anything regarding her birthday even though I listed it in two places for the reservation. The food we did have was delicious though. I don't expect a perfect experience ever but these issues I feel were things that shouldn't have been messed up. I'd give this place another try and hope for a better visit.
Service was poor. Not attentive. Food ok. Summer ramen was spaghetti. Tasteless
Met a friend for lunch - booked a table, but still had to wait! Service was a bit tired, but ambience quite nice. Food OK - but not sophisticated in any way.
The hostess forgot about us and our reservation, seating walk-ins ahead of us. She then offered us a table that had been empty for more than 15 minutes in the first-come, first-serve section. When asked if she had any other tables available, she put us at table so slanted that the salt shaker rolled off. Further, the waitress told me mother to speak up instead of moving around the table to hear her better.
The food was on the bland side. It is brought up from the kitchen and left to get cold on a small stand by the stairs.
The drinks are small and expensive.
Clearly some people like it, but I’d rather not spend money there again.
Food was cold coffee was cold and took for ever, noise was horrible service was less than good.
Used to be one of the staples for when I have friends come in from out of town. Sight seeing, Newbury Street and burnch/lunch at Sonsie. It was quite underwhelming this go round. It was just another mediocre place now and was definitely not the good old Sonsie. :-/
We had a wonderfully attentive & responsive server. We were not hurried to leave (or eat). Thank you!
Beautiful restaurant experience. Sonsie is both relaxing and exhilarating. The food is creatively composed and artfully plated. The service is great, the food is amazing. Sonsie delivers a meal you will remember for a very long time.
I like Sonsie but ordered the wrong thing tonight, I guess. I chose a dish called “Summer Ramen” which was poorly conceived- no Asian flavor, noodles that were not ramen, no broth and not even hot. My husband enjoyed his lamb chops and our service was good. Noise level was high.
we were disappointed with our total experience. it is a very noisy place to have dinner.
My husband and I had salmon which was beautifully prepared. The service was excellent and the noise level was reasonable.
I went for brunch with my sister and it was delicious! We sat at a table that faced the street and it felt like a Parisian cafe. Really enjoyable. I recommend the heuvos rancheros nachos for brunch.
awesome. great waiter....
Amazing table booked very easily online- confirmed reservation over the phone only hours before and it was no problem! We had an amazing and attentive waiter, and the food was fantastic. There was nothing to complain about and we will definitely return.
