Sonsie - Boston
Pizzas served daily to 1230am
Walked 1/2 mile in drizzle and rain to get there, i was sure it would be worth it due to great reviews.
Arrived to find establishment closed with a note about problems in the kitchen.
why did you let me make a reservation if you knew you were closed. Very disappointed, wet and hungry.
I gave this restaurant 4 stars because they were great all around, we were about 45mins early and they brought us right to our table, I broke a glass n candle sitting down, our waitress alycia n the hostess, were right on top of cleaning it up, alycia was on quick to get our drinks, taking our order and bringing us everything. The food was the best part everything was perfect. So glad we picked this place .
great gluten free options, really nice server!
Had Saturday morning brunch here. Food and service were fantastic. Prices not bad for Newbury Street. Will definitely be back!
We usually have fantastic experiences here at Sonsie, but for some reason the food took a lot longer than usual that night. It took an hour and a half to get our entrees and it didn’t look that busy. We got very hangry.
The service was just bad. I over heard multiple tables complaining and I had to eat my dinner while sharing my girlfriends fork because they took ours when clearing the table and would not come back again. But they had time to cut jokes and laugh at the service station. The food and drinks were great so maybe we caught them on an off afternoon with 12 people total in the restaurant at 6pm.
Usually we receive both stellar service and food. This time we only received stellar food. We were sat, never got a greeting from wait staff after waiting ten minutes. The host took our order and we interacted with different people at every stage of the lunch. It was very strange. I’ll still go back though, as I feel that this was a fluke.
I have been to the restaurant a number of times before. Most of the food was pretty tasteless and the service was... well... I was served soup without a spoon; my daughter a steak without a knife. The salad dressing drenched the asparagus/arugula salad and had little taste other than oil. The lentil soup was surprisingly bland. The greens on the steak were good but saturated in liquid. The red lentil hummus had little taste. Just really surprising. And it was not an inexpensive meal.
The food was delicious and the setting was charming. I highly recommend!
Sonsie has gone downhill over the past year or so, especially for weekend brunch. The ladies on the front desk are bordering on incompetant... the service is always slow... and theyve gone from doing the best cup of (espresso) coffee in Boston to practically the worst. I think i'd rather go to Dunkin'
My main meal came out before my partner's appetizer. Then, as he was eating his appetizer (not even halfway done), his main meal came out. The whole was rushed unnecessarily.
Great brunch meal with my friends here. LOVE THE SKIP THE STRAW initiative. Very impressed with the commitment to the environment. Wish more restaurants were participating in this. Thank you for your commitment to the environment.
We ordered the salmon and the cod fish entrees. The portion size was very small.
Unfortunately our server had difficulty tending to our table. We would ask questions and she would leave to get an answer and never come back. There was confusion with drink orders. Sonsie was recommended to us for a relaxing/elegant dinner for a friends bachelorette party and it was not the experience we had hoped for.
Great food, great ambiance, great location (parking on Newbury Street was fine)
Good experience, pleasant staff, and good food once we were seated. However, that happened 30 minutes past our reservation time.
We were in Boston on vacation and wanted to go to the Prudential Center at sunset, so were looking for a place to have dinner in that area. We settled on Sonsie because they had dishes that were kid-friendly. We made our reservation kind of late in the day, but it wasn't until 8:30. They seated us in a corner at a 2-top when there were 3 of us. We found this type of thing to be prevalent in Boston. They really try to pack them in, but it doesn't make for a comfortable dining experience. We were very cramped, barely had room on the table for the food and drinks...well, we didn't. We had to put some on a serving table behind us. The food was good. The child was able to get a Buffalo chicken pizza, which suited her. My husband had a ramen bowl, which was good a flavorful, but not brothy enough. It seems to be a popular Newberry Street Restaurant, though. Our major complaint is about where we were seated.
My husband and I remember dining here about 20 years ago and loved it. Not sure if our standards have just increased substantially or if Sonsie decreased their own standards over the years. Service was super slow. Food was just ok. Sirloin was pretty good but nothing special. Pizza was terrible. Came out cold, made with no care. Tagliatelle was just ok. No memorable. Monkfish was way too salty. Fries too salty. Clam chowder just ok. Mussels were pretty good but could have done with a notch up in flavor. Disappointed.
My son is moving to Boston for a new job and we went to look around and visit the apartment complex he's moving into. A friend recommended going to Newberry street for dinner and we chose Sonsie and it really hit the mark.. Everyone had a terrific meal, I had the Cod, my wife had the monk fish and our son had the buffalo pizza. The service was attentive without being a bother and quick.
I remember the food being much better than it was. Maybe it was just the brunch menu but wasn’t impressed. Too bad, used to love this place!
New job celebration
Food was mediocre at best for the price and service was horrible. Server was disinterested in being attentive let alone timely service and pace of the meal. Wine was ordered before the meal and arrived mid meal, long after the entrees were served. We waited 20 minutes after our meal was finished before the server came by to see if we wanted dessert. And then the dessert wasn’t even worth the wait-again mediocre at best. Won’t be back.
The server was drunk, did not know what he was doing or serving. The food was stale.
Awesome food, exceptional service
Starter (Calmari) tasteless. Main courses good. Beer cold! Service lacking and in attentive.
Our waiter, a young man from Maine, was very attentive and gave great service, and was most helpful with food allergies.
Kindly sat us in corner under a/c vent when asked by habitual over heater :-) food and service were outstanding.
Today I had a great first experience at Sonsie thanks to Dawn my server very attentive and hard working and very sweet and kind , she went above and beyond for me and my friends , the best experience I ever had in a while in a local restaurant. I will be back again due to the service dawn provided.
Great Bruch. Foodie Friends even gave their stamp of approval!
Overall decent experience but definitely wish the service had been more attentive considering they were clearly over staffed
Food was amazing and was reasonably priced. Service efficient and was arguably too quick (liberally last mouth full, plate gone!) and the lighting too dim as a number were reading the menu with phone lights!
We enjoyed sonsei so much we had breakfast then dinner the following day. Great food! Dinner was pretty noisy, making it difficult to converse. But food and service were great.
Cute little cafe with nice patio for people watching. Pizzas are good but clam chowder a little watery than our taste. Ordered the “avocado toast” but it was more like an open face tuna salad sandwich with a little bit of avocado. A bit disappointing. Service was great - loved our server - very personable and attentive.
Definitely a disappointment. The banana nutella french toast was more like a stale sandwich- bread was hard (reheated). I've had better at a greasy spoon.
Delicious meal overall! Great ambiance and delicious pizza!
I had the signature breakfast sandwich. Unfortunately would not want to put my signature on this one. Dry, sausage uneventful, not nearly enough cheese but the worst of it is that the biscuit had absolutely no flavor whatsoever. A jalapeño cheese biscuit should scream flavor. This was nothing I could do to bring flavor to this sandwich and believe me I tried. Don’t order this one!
Great place to have Brunch or an excellent meal. The food is delicious and it is fun to sit by the open front of the restaurant and watch the world go by. Definite Boston place to go when you are in the city. Reservations recommended, it was packed there this morning.
Great brunch - clutch drink specials
We took my daughter and 6 friends to dinner to celebrate her 16th birthday. The hostesses were engaging and prepared for us. They were happy to help me select a surprise dessert including avoiding a nut allergy. The waitress was lovely. The kids loved the restaurant and felt they were somewhere “cool.” It relatively early on a week night so that was perfect. My husband and I sat and bar and observed from a distance. And paid the bill, of course! But it was very reasonable. Highly recommend!
Wonderful service! Our waitress was terrific, very pleasant and attentive. Food was great!!
