Environment wise, good, WiFi is a great plus. Food wise, ordered a special lamb chop for Mother's, very bad. I'm glad that's not a regular.
Great food, a bit slow on the service (but in fairness, was Mothers Day)
The hostess seemed to forget that customer service should be kept in mind regardless that there were limitations around reserving outdoor seating in advance. To basically been told in no uncertain terms to "take the table we were given or to leave it" - left a sour taste in our mouths making it hard to enjoy the food or my mother's day celebration. We ate our food which was actually pretty tasty and decided to leave as soon as possible given our bad seating arrangement. So - I guess they accomplished getting us in and out as soon as possible - but I won't be heading back or recommending to restaurant to any friends in the future.
Food was great and we enjoyed our time at the restaurant. It was loud due to most of the tables being full and at capacity however manageable.
I had to wait almost 30minutes for the waitress to attend me - and they only did it after I called the hostess. Then, they brought my order but no cutlery and I had to ask the manager to do it.
Really poor service for a place that was supposed to be one of the finest places in Boston - also they tend to be extremely rude when someone walks in without a reservation.
Amazing food and our waitress was wonderful! Cute patio area too. We sat outside and it was obviously noisy because we were on the street but definitely not too bad.
The food was average at best, at least for their brunch menu. Service was lacking and their ambience was not very exciting.
Went for a birthday. Amazing food&service
We had a fantastic brunch here over the weekend. It was a beautiful day and the restaurant had the large dining area open to the outdoors. We both had the smoked salmon eggs Benedict and it was literally the best I’ve ever had! The Hollandaise sauce was sublime and they were very generous with it. The espresso I had with it was delicious, as was the Bellini I had. Absolutely outstanding brunch!
Our first nice dinner out since last year when COVID began. We were so excited! Feesh shrimp rolls were good, the lobster dumpings were fine. Salmon was just delicious so was the burger. Short ribs weren't great and the Mee Krob was reported to me to be "terrible and overpriced. Both were packed to finish at home and both people decided to leave them behind. The wait staff was great. It was a bit dark but social distancing was good and there were partitions between tables. It was quiet when we were there but it was early for dinner (6-7:30)and COVID just opening up a bit. The Newbury St location is always fun. I'd recommend it but check in with waitstaff about best menu options.
Our server was attentive, food and drinks were great.
Safety precautions were good. I asked to change tables and the new table was sanitized before I moved. Service was good. Our waitress was friendly and helpful. The food was good and we had an enjoyable time.
We're glad you enjoyed your time here and even happier to hear that you felt safe and protected while you dined with us! We look forward to having you back again!
Menu is limited. Would like to see more options. Otherwise everything is great!!
Went for brunch - they definitely had good coffee but it I felt the brunch was very standard and not very well done. Food was extremely average, which surprised me because people seem to rave about the brunch. However, service was decent and the ambience was nice (french syled cafe dining).
SO GOOD! Super cute, great atmosphere, and great bananas foster french toast. A little pricey but great for a nice brunch.
Our server was incredible. So accommodating and attentive to our needs and special requests. Fun upbeat atmosphere and great food and the cocktails are sublime!
The food was fine (I ordered the steak rare and it was definitely closer to Medium but it wasn’t terrible). The biggest issue though was the service. We got seated right next to the front door so the wind coming in each time somebody came in or out was very annoying and made us cold and uncomfortable. I tried to get our server to see if we could move but his trips to our table were so few and far between that after he ignored my request the first time, the next time I could ask him our food had already arrived. We were frequently looking around trying to get someone to get us another drink and it was impossible. I understand being understaffed I’ve been there before and would never hold it against the servers but in this case I was frequently seeing them all congregating talking behind the bar while the restaurant was packed at prime hours on a Friday night. It was very frustrating and when we were finally able to get our servers attention he was rude to us as if we were bothering him by wanting a drink. Like I said, I’ve worked in the industry and understand that things happen but it was a really unpleasant experience for a Friday date night and afterwords we both wished we stayed home.
On behalf of our team, I'd like to apologize for the experience you had dining with us. We know how important the escape of dining out can be to everyone these days and to hear that we dropped the ball on your visit is unacceptable, especially for things like another round of cocktails or any of your needs in the moment. Inattentiveness is never excusable and I'd like to personally invite you back again to show you just how valuable you are to the Sonsie family should you accept it.
This used to be a wonderful place. Now the food is ok but not as good as it used to be
Good food excellent service beautiful place good drinks
One of my favorite Boston restaurants, and it never disappoints. The salmon with sweet pea puree was delicious, the wine was yummy, and the service no-nonsense and covid-safe. Thank you, I will be back again soon.
Always good and now with more outdoor seating, summer will be amazing.
Our first time back to Sonsie since March 2020. The food was excellent, clear safety precautions were in place, and the service was outstanding! Can’t wait to go back.
We went to Sonsie for Easter dinner and the food was absolutely fantastic. We have a bunch of picky eaters and they loved the salad, pizza (ended up ordering a 2nd because it was so good), and the pastas. We can’t wait to come back to try the brunch menu as well.
My eggs were over cooked. Lights in bathroom area were way to dark.
Food was very good and portions large! The waitress was very accommodating as we asked to move tables. Would recommend!
They’ve done a great job with open windows and covid seating but it was a bit chilly.
i would say the noise level was a bit too loud. hard to hear each other and felt like we needed to shout. could've reduced the music volume a bit in the main dining area.
Slow service. Food just ok.
The food was decent, but was a bit cold. We had to wait over an hour for our food even though we were one of the first peoples to arrive. Our waiter was not friendly and had a terrible attitude.
Inattentive wait staff, below standard service, had to request bread after 30min, delivered with attitude from staff other than waiter. Waiter chuckled and chatted with other staff while purposefully avoiding eye contact instead of attending to my table. Many careless mistakes. Order half dozen oysters recieved 4 instead. I actually did not get a chance to order my dinner just ordered 2 appetizers waited 45 minutes. I would say Sonsie has hit rock bottom... But the Mgr called to make amends. I just may return...my hope is a much better ending next time around. Though I am unsure as to if I will return. Time will tell.
The food was disappointing.
A kale salad had mostly romaine lettuce.
The noodle dish was so spicy and lacking in any chicken or pork that it wasn't worth the $28.
By the way I am a spice kind of guy.
The Jack Abbey blood Orange was a beer worse trying and having a second.
Overall sad experience
food was fantastic. Can wax rhapsodic about the wild boar ragout and the pizzas. so yummy. the service was terrific. everyone was very friendly. great wine suggestions. capped it all off with the chocolate bread pudding.... mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
Go on a day when the doors are wide open. Otherwise it felt crowded to me. I wasn't sure about the air circulation inside.
Great end to a wonderful birthday weekend!
Very good food! I usually get the Eggs Benedict, and I am always pleased! Plus, Sonsie has an inviting atmosphere, especially when there is good weather.
It was amazing and the service was great
This place was recommended by a local as we were not from the area. The taste of the food was really good but perhaps there was an issue with Staffing because it was cold. The manager sought us out and went above and beyond to correct this. The server was also excellent. Hopefully just an isolated incident. Otherwise was pleased with the food and atmosphere of the establishment. Would definitely give it another try and plan on going back to the area later this year.
Overall, a very good experience! The only negative would be that the music was too loud.
Even my 30ish daughter complained as well.
Such a fun spot. The eggs Benedict was great!
Food was alright. Beer list is small. Pitchers really watered down.
Took 5ever for food to come. Waitress seemed to completely ignore us.
