Good food. Terrible service,
I went to Sonsie’s to have brunch with a friend. This place was highly recommended by another friend of mine. At reception they offered us the option to be sat at either the cafe or the dinning room and we went for the latter. The food and the service were really good, and the atmosphere was calming because of the dim lighting. The artwork on the walls caught our attention and it was a fun few minutes to observe them (I’m not gonna spoil it for u, go see them yourself😁). Just be careful, they don’t accept DISCOVER credit cards.
Overall, Sonsie’s is a cool place to have a good old brunch.
This might be the best place we ate at all week! Five star everything.
Service and food were pretty bad
Everything was perfect. As always.
This was the loudest restaurant I have ever been to. It was jammed, clearly popular with lots of folks, but you couldn't pay me to go back because of the noise. The wait staff was lovely and the food good, but it's just unpleasant not to be able to hear the people you are with at a table of four.
Great music, nice atmosphere! I would definitely go back!
Everything was great except for the waitress who brought our food, was really rude.
But the waiter whi was serving us really good.
The food was very good. Service was extremely disappointing. After being seated it took several minutes for the waiter to come over to the table. After finally taking our drink order it was about 20-25 minutes until the drinks arrived at our table. It was then at least another 15 minutes of waiting to give our food order. The waiter then did not come and ask if we wanted another round of drinks until we were finished eating and it again took about another half hour until the drinks made it to our table. While waiting for our food and drinks we witnessed the waiter socializing with another table near by.
The hostess was very pleasant and inviting and attended to our party instantly. Again the food was delicious and atmosphere was great, but we were very upset with the service from the waiter. I don’t think I would return again because of the lack of care and attention the waiter provided.
The food was very good but it's hard to figure out what the menu and the restaurant concept is really about. With a view to the multi-big screen-TV bar from the entire restaurant, I wouldn't put it in the special occasion dining category. Our server was super, just the right amount of attentiveness and positive attitude.
Delicious brunch! We enjoyed unusual options such as French toast stuffed with Nutella and banana and the crepes with ricotta and blood orange marmalade. Service was a little off - coffees ordered before meal order arrived several minutes after meals - but waitstaff was apologetic and courteous.
Was disappointed in how greasy the calamari. My steak was delicious, would have loved to have a little more. My niece who ordered a hamburger said she couldn't eat it because it was salty.
I do love the ambiance at sonsie. The drinks were delicious. I'd give the restaurant another try.
Grab a cafe table while you can for indoor/outdoor atmosphere and better lighting! The chocolate bread pudding is DEFINITELY worth it.
We always enjoy brunch at Sonsi, food it great and service is great!
Food was great. Waiter was great. We were put down in the wine room which was dark. We went for brunch and would have preferred to be in the daylight!
We had a great Easter breakfast. Service was wonderful, food was above average (my Dad loved his eggs, the French toast was average though). The restaurant was noisy but the atmosphere was nice.
Steamed mussels were delicious!
what we got: eggs benedict with ham (1.5/5), eggs benedict with salmon (2/5), quiche (2/5), and a cup of coffee (whatever nothing special), and two glasses of orange juice which came in glasses that were so sticky that they could be used as a mouse trap
another perk: so they mess with your point system - double check to see if your points have been deposited - they change it around so that it shows up on opentable's end as a reservation made "outside of opentable's system"
in short: STAY AWAY!
Went to Sonsie for brunch with an old friend from out of town. The service (our server was Skylar) was superb. The meal was ok - but the dessert was AWESOME. Had dinner at Sonsie a few weeks ago and it was "meh" but brunch was much better. Had a great time talking for a few hours at our table without feeling rushed.
Both ordered medium rare steak. After 50 minutes the waitress came by for first time to fill water, said food would be out soon. One came out rare other well done...very disappointing.
Food and service were good... but noise level is out of control... could not have a conversation due to very crowded room and very very loud plus they play loud music which doesn’t help! The table next to mine got disgusted and left!
Sonsie hasn’t changed much since opening 25 years ago. Very good food, great lively atmosphere, excellent service. A true Boston mainstay.
Sonsie was well-decorated and in a great location. But the food was just so-so and the dishes more expensive than they needed to be. Better food is available at lower prices at better restaurants not too far from here.
Went to Sonsie for dinner with my son (college student) and daughter (looking at college) based on reviews and menu.
My daughter had the duck, my son a pizza and I had the prefix. Our server was very attentive and the food was good.
However, we found it to be way too dark, could barley see the menu, and too noisy to hear our own conversation. The two tables on either side of us had to speak above the tables next to them, and so on.
I think next time, I would be pickier about my table location and time of day.
I always go to Boston in March and try to hit as many good restaurants as possible. We picked Sonsie for Sunday Brunch and it was AMAZING! Had the perfect sunny window seat to people watch and stay warm ( it was 30 degrees out) the food was great and they brought over their delicious chocolate bread pudding because it was my bday with a a little candle and everything... so nice.. great way to end our trip!!
Sonsie was fine. We were in Boston for the weekend, it was cold and windy and wanted someplace close. It was a full house when we arrived for our reservation, and were seated promptly. Our server was pleasant. I was surprised that we were not offered any specials, but then again, we weren't sure if there were any. Nevertheless, we never felt rushed or pressured and we were allowed to linger and finish our bottle of wine . I would return, maybe to try brunch.
The best thing about Sonsie is the ambiance. Cozy and warm setting. Food was very average. The wait staff was very pleasant, but the service was slow. If I was in a rush, I would have been bothered, but we weren't, so it was fine. Probably would not visit again, expect to sit and linger over a glass of wine.
Our reservation changed from 2 to 7, yet they were able to accommodate us. Kaitlan and the entire staff never left us wanting for anything. We had a wide variety of foods from pizza to shell fish and everything was delicious. The staff was great at explaining the difference in varieties of oysters and made good suggestions as to what would be most enjoyable. Definitely a place for a return visit next time in Boston. Thanks for a great evening. BG
very low lighting but a nice experience in a new city
The food was good but not outstanding. Sonsie has a great reputation. Their servers were 100% dedicated and attentive as well as friendly. But the food was not what I expected after hearing such great reviews. The breakfast menu is very small and there were no low carb options. The smoked salmon plate was as close as they came to a healthy option with smoked salmon and a salad but even that had a bagel on the side. I didn't eat the bagel but without the bagel it really was too small for a full breakfast. Great ambiance and decor just don't go if you are starving. For the quality of food I would expect to pay a little less than I did. I'm not cheap, I just don't like to pay premium prices unless there is a premium product and I could have gotten this breakfast at any hotel breakfast bar.
Excellent server - we loved Kaitlin!!
Absolutely go here for brunch!!!! Wonderful food!! Wonderful ambiance!! This is a very "cool" place!!!
My friends were very upset as they ordered the $8 house rose and saw on the bill they were charged $14 a glass and when approaching the server they were told they ran out of the house and were given something else. The server should’ve told them they were out and for $14 they should’ve had the option of choosing something else to drink instead. The food was great and the server was kind to me as it was my birthday and she gave me a dessert sampler. The wine incident was the only “mishap”.
A perennial favorite. Consistently good food and atmosphere and great service. A Back Bay gem!
Great food, great atmosphere; went for business lunch and Sonsie's was a great choice.
I went here for Sunday Brunch with a date. It was my first time at Sonsie. To start, I'll say the service was excellent. All of the servers and staff we encountered were the best. The food was good, but as a French Toast lover I found the stuffed French Toast with Nutella and Banana far too sweet. My date seemed to enjoy his traditional breakfast. The prices were reasonable and everything was exactly to order. Also I will say our table, reserved through Open Table, was ready and available as soon as we got to the restaurant (right on time). The down side to this restaurant was the busy and noisy atmosphere. Hard to get to the table, hard to hear each other talk. This definitely is not a great spot for a date, or if so, maybe not for a first date or maybe simply not for brunch. Even if I was just dining with friends, I think I would have preferred a place that was a little less popular, and a little more relaxed. So would I recommend Sonsie? Definitely for the service, but I'm not sure it would be top on my list otherwise.
Good brunch, not the best tho, but it's worth a visit.
Cons: The service was a bit annoying when we wanted to pay. I had to go look for them. The names of the dishes are more appealing than the final product.
Pros: great ambience and location. Prices are convenient.
Good food... nice atmosphere.... but waiter was too distracted to care!
Came here with friends, food was great, quiet enough to catch up but lively enough to a fun vibe. The half roast chicken was awesome. Ramen was a bit salty for my taste. The bread was great too. Service is top notch. Great place for a date or to meet with friends!
