very low lighting but a nice experience in a new city
Excellent server - we loved Kaitlin!!
My friends were very upset as they ordered the $8 house rose and saw on the bill they were charged $14 a glass and when approaching the server they were told they ran out of the house and were given something else. The server should’ve told them they were out and for $14 they should’ve had the option of choosing something else to drink instead. The food was great and the server was kind to me as it was my birthday and she gave me a dessert sampler. The wine incident was the only “mishap”.
A perennial favorite. Consistently good food and atmosphere and great service. A Back Bay gem!
Great food, great atmosphere; went for business lunch and Sonsie's was a great choice.
I went here for Sunday Brunch with a date. It was my first time at Sonsie. To start, I'll say the service was excellent. All of the servers and staff we encountered were the best. The food was good, but as a French Toast lover I found the stuffed French Toast with Nutella and Banana far too sweet. My date seemed to enjoy his traditional breakfast. The prices were reasonable and everything was exactly to order. Also I will say our table, reserved through Open Table, was ready and available as soon as we got to the restaurant (right on time). The down side to this restaurant was the busy and noisy atmosphere. Hard to get to the table, hard to hear each other talk. This definitely is not a great spot for a date, or if so, maybe not for a first date or maybe simply not for brunch. Even if I was just dining with friends, I think I would have preferred a place that was a little less popular, and a little more relaxed. So would I recommend Sonsie? Definitely for the service, but I'm not sure it would be top on my list otherwise.
Good brunch, not the best tho, but it's worth a visit.
Cons: The service was a bit annoying when we wanted to pay. I had to go look for them. The names of the dishes are more appealing than the final product.
Pros: great ambience and location. Prices are convenient.
Good food... nice atmosphere.... but waiter was too distracted to care!
Came here with friends, food was great, quiet enough to catch up but lively enough to a fun vibe. The half roast chicken was awesome. Ramen was a bit salty for my taste. The bread was great too. Service is top notch. Great place for a date or to meet with friends!
Our waiter was very nice but the service was so slow. We waited so long for our food to come out it almost seemed like they forgot to place the order. Once the food came, it was good, but not worth such a long wait.
Brunch food was ok. Eggs Benedict was nothing special . Fruit bowl was only fair, seemed a bit old. Should be very fresh and luscious. Not do. Bellini cocktails were very good. Restaurant on a Sunday at 1:30pm was very noisy.
Ladies room is so dark It was difficult to find the exit door . Very dark. Too dark over the staircase down to the rest rooms- hard to see clearly. It’s not easy to see clearly
The food is very good and the service is excellent. However, the tables along the wall are way too close. If the wait staff is waiting on a table next to you, she or he is just about leaning on your table. Also, the wine list is way too expensive. We went with the house red because of it.
We had an early dinner before a show at the Berkelee. Very convenient. The menu was interesting and we had no problem making a choice. Our waiter was incredibly gracious and attentive. He gets many many stars!!!
It's a restaurant that can even do well in spinach
Nice lunch. Menu seems like it has never changed in many years. They were out of a couple of key menu items too.
Great food and service
It was a Valentine's Day date - it was good. They made it special - petals on the table. Live music. Service was excellent. We were seated immediately even though we came a bit early. Definitely will go again. THANK YOU!!!
Excellent steak ❤️
We always wanted to try Sonsie and had the opportunity to go when it wasn't crowded. Interesting menu, but we went basic and had a pizza and a burger. Both were very good, though a little pricey. Nice atmosphere, would try again.
Bar was good and bar maids were attentive. Calamari was flavorless and mostly just a thick batter. Wouldn't go back
Best pizza ever
Food was terrible. Really disappointed.
Very quick and prompt service from the wait staff. Hummus was excellent but the classic breakfast sandwich was partly burnt. Should not have come out of the kitchen. I should have asked the waitress to take back, but the restaurant was "rammed" and did not want the wait.
Didn't have kids menu/smaller portions & pricey for what you got
We have reservations for the time they open for brunch on Sunday and they didn’t open the doors till that exact time (no sitting at the bar for a cocktail while we waited. Once they opened, they were very unorganized. Two of the three menus given to our table we’re wrong/missing pages. We were excited to try their homemade donuts, but were very disappointed as they were cold and a bit hard. The French toast was served without syrup, and my orange juice never made it to the table!! The food was OK, but there are so many other fantastic places in Boston, so I won’t come again...
I should mention the bread given to us at our table while we waited for our meals was the highlight!! Amazingly delicious and warm!
It would be helpful to know when brunch ends/ menu switches when booking online.
The hostesses were helpful and friendly but the servers were clearly upset. As a result we left and went elsewhere which was a shame because we talked about how great our last experience was the week before.
Amazing weekend brunch options!!! Affordable for the quality, ambiance, and overall experience. The service was exceptional, wait staff was kind and upbeat. Overall had a wonderful brunch experience
The food was excellent and our server was very helpful. The table next to us were a bit rowdy and drunk and one of their chairs kept falling over. Otherwise, it was fantastic.
Pretty good food, mostly (though calling tuna fish salad "tuna confit" is a bit of a stretch, really). Service was not so good, really slow on a mostly empty weekday lunch.
I reserved for Sunday brunch at 1 pm but they were not ready until 1:30 pm because the people who were at our tables did not get up(?). It looked like other people were having same problem. It was way too crowded with all those tables filled up.. It didn't take long for us to order because we knew what we wanted but we waited almost an hour for our food. Our waitress did not even notify us that it will take that long. Eventually we were able to eat at 2:30pm, starving. It was worst service I ever received. The food was okay, but I will not be revisiting if it's for brunch.
Great food and nice ambience. A perfect brunch!
We weren’t super impressed with the food or service, but it wasn’t awful.
Kaitlin was a very friendly & accommodating waitress! The food & atmosphere were great. It was a bit noisy.
Sonsie is a Boston classic. Good for when you want to get out to a spot with both a good ambience and vibe and good food. The menu has something for everyone at a reasonable price point for Newbury street.
Our food was delayed due to overcooking and the manager was incredibly nice to idea is a dessert or similar as apology. Was very considerate and apologetic which is rare. Thanks for the extra consideration!
There is a new chef and the food is not nearly as good as it was. The steak was charred black, the fish was cold, the dessert tasted like it had gone sour... they also removed the best item from the previous menu- Mee Krob. After being a loyal Sonsie fan for over 15 years, I won’t be going back.
The atmosphere is nice, tables far enough apart to have intimate conversations. Service is appropriately attentive. There is funky art on the walls that add to the upscale but still casual ambiance. Food is relatively traditional but prepared in interesting and tasty ways.
Best brunch in Boston
Fantastic time! Went for brunch with my friends to celebrate a friends birthday! The service was great, and the food was creative and delicious! Overall 10/10!
The service was superb, the food delicious and the atmosphere elegant and artsy. We always frequent Sonsie when we are in Boston. The staff is wonderful.......so extremely accommodating! It's in a great location as well. I highly recommend this restaurant.
