Waiter took forever but food was great
Our waitress was so lovely and kind! She took great care of us. The mimosas, bloody Mary’s, and brunch were all delectable.
Loved brunch. Wish they had a few more umbrellas.
Waiter Colin was so good! Drinks and food were delicious.
The reason I didn't love the service is because the hostess was so so so unfriendly. It was very off putting. Even asking where the ladies room was she rolled her eyes and pointed, didn't even speak. Sadly it kinda over shadows the positive.
The food was delicious! We had steak, which was cooked perfectly and very tender, as well as octopus. The octopus appetizer was wonderful, and I'd recommend it. Also, order the 'Dana' martini - it's a twist on a lemon drop that you just have to try!
It was delicious!!! But a little dark and noise! The service it was very good
Dirty and cracked glassware, no plates or utensils provided
Cute spot for brunch meeting. I’ve been here 3 times and the food is always good, but nothing novel. The servers appeared to be stressed out and our glasses had red pepper flakes stuck to the inside. Parties of 3 seem to only get put at high tops which feels crowded - if you’re against the wall you have to ask someone at your party or the party next to you to move to get out because their chairs are practically touching. My party was just looking for a place to eat and chat so we were perfectly happy waiting for our drinks and food, but I wouldn’t come here expecting a fine dining experience.
Food is incredibly rich. Noise level doesn’t allow for easy conversation but overall great ambience
Sonsie was a disappointment from start to finish. Started off with no clean martini classes, bar tender forgot olives. You think all glassware would be clean when the restaurant was not full at 8pm on a Saturday night. Once we were seated at our table, we had to ask for a server to come by, we had to ask our server to place our order, to bring refills of martinis, never brought water, then we had to flag someone down to take away our appetizer plates, and then had to ask for the bill. I spent the whole night asking and reminding our server when to do their job. Besides actually cook the food and carry it out, I was responsible for the whole meal. Disappointing to say the least at the price point.
Sonsie is a restaurant on Newberry Street that has an amazing outdoor patio. Unfortunately, the food was average. While the wait staff was slow to service us and ask how our meal was, the general manager sensed the lackluster service and tried to make the rounds with people dining at the restaurant. While we appreciate this, the food can definitely be improved upon. Unfortunately, there are many other better choices to dine at in the Back Bay.
Been here many times will never go again. Slow service. They only brought out 3 of 4 dinners and we waited 20 minutes for 4th. Then I had to go inside and ask and waitress ame out and apologized and said she would get the 4th meal. Then came back 20 minutes later to say sorry we won't be getting the 4th meal but we will comp it for you. I had to explain you aren't comping using you didn't bring it. Then we waited 30 minutes for bill and they had no adjustments so we asked for manager and she blamed it all on the new waitress and the pizza chef who can't keep up. Took no responsibility and said she would comp the pizza. I again had to explain that you aren't comping us for something we ordered and you didn't serve. She finally took $30 in drinks off the tab 2.5 hours for dinner on a Friday night when the restaurant was half empty
Food was very tasty… pizza and burrata with peaches. But service was less than satisfactory. While I understand there are staffing concerns everywhere, our waiter brought out all food at once, rather than 1st and 2nd courses, so we had too many dishes on table, did not return for additional service such as refilling water glasses or providing condiments, and never asked us if we wanted dessert, coffee, etc. We ended up going elsewhere for dessert. Disappointing indeed.
Despite the nice location, we had a lot of issues at Sonsie. Service took a long time (which is understandable since they were very understaffed), and the food was subpar, especially for the price. We ordered a pizza that had clearly been reheated, and it tasted like they had poured olive oil over it, which was strange. Overall it wasn't a pleasant experience.
While our order was lost, the service team did a great job keeping us informed of the mix-up. Their attitude made a bad situation a whole lot better!
Had a great experience at Sonsie catching up with a friend. Victoria, our server, was absolutely wonderful and very attentive. Will definitely be coming back soon!
It was like a club vibe and the brunch menu was very limited! Felt like the restaurant was dirty. Most likely won’t be going back.
Some of the worst service I’ve ever experienced. Then I asked for the manager who couldn’t have been less sympathetic or helpful. Do yourself a favor and avoid this place.
The table was very unsteady and they tried to stabilize it.
They should have seated us at another table.
When I called to say we were running late the maitre’d acted like it was a big deal, when we got there the restaurant was empty. We had an early reservation pre Red Sox game, if she had said take your time I would not have raced down Newbury Street in 90 degree weather!
It wasn’t a “great” experience. I was notified 15 min early that my table was ready (which made me feel rushed), we ordered pizza which wasn’t hot (just lukewarm), the salad was dripping in dressing, and the music was way too loud. I think it’s an OK place, but I definitely won’t come back for my next anniversary. I was hoping it would be a very special spot, but it really just didn’t hit the right notes for us. Oh and, our server was gone for a bit, when we needed a check, so we sat around for an extra 10 or so min.
we were very disappointed in what used to be one of our favorite brunch restaurants.
1. The tuna appetizer was inedible. We could not eat one bite.
2. We ordered a drink that tasted like watered down lemonade, not a cosmo. I had to pay for a shot of vodka to add to it.
3. The entrees came before the appetizers and salad and we were told that is always how it happens which is not true.
4. The restaurant appeared dirty and the ladies bathroom was filthy.
5. A waiter was cleaning the table next to ours and the ammonia spray came right on to us while eating.
6. The waitress was very nice and we tipped her well despite having a horrible meal.
We will not be returning to this restaurant.
Looking forward to going to Sonsie for a number of years and finally got there last night. What a huge disappointment!!! Had an early reservation, as we were going to a concert. Entered the restaurant and the bar was packed, but the rest of the dinning area and many tables outside were vacant. The seating hostess brought us to a tiny table directedly in front of the main door; so I asked for a different table. She acted as if I was bothering her, but took us to a table on the sidewalk. We were seated for at least 15 minutes before any waiter would even make eye contact with us. When we finally ordered, we were told our drinks would be delayed because the bar was busy!! We waited almost 1/2 hour before drinks came and then our food was delivered. Both our hamburger and steak were undercooked. I actually like my steak medium rare, but this was lightly seared and totally raw and cold on the inside!!
I guess I should have paid more attention to the 1 star ratings - and I certainly will the next time we go out. Sonsie, your reputation has gone way downhill.
We loved the food. The server seemed in a hurry. We had to ask separately for anything we wanted because she only seemed to give us fly by attention. The noise level was too loud. We couldn’t really talk. We would go back though because the food was excellent. The Bananas Foster French toast was delicious. The smoked salmon bagels I loved.
Shared 4 small plates, the hamburger pizza, and two entrees. Everything was delicious including the cocktails. Will return.
Brunch was great! Delicious food and cocktail.
Food was decent but they brought our appetizer at the same time as our meal, didn't bring utensils, didn't listen to my friend's request to omit an item from his burger, had to be asked twice to bring us bread, and then gave us the check before we were ready to leave.
We arrived 20 minutes early for our reservation and were seated right away. It was only 4:45 and not busy. We didn’t get waited on for almost 20 minutes. An hour and 15 minutes later we didn’t receive the food we ordered, which happened to be just appetizers. My husband went and asked the waiter to kindly just bring our bill for what we had received. We had to make it to a show and couldn’t wait any longer. The manager then brought the bill and let us know that she had taken off the food we never got. Obviously, I would hope we wouldn’t pay for what was never delivered. No apologies, no comped drinks. Very poor customer service. The table next to us had a very similar issue and were not happy. Shame on the manager. I am very understanding of being short staffed, especially at this time, but to not even try to make it right? She knew what happened and didn’t even try to correct it. We will not return again. I can’t imagine what it is like during their busy time.
The service was terrible. By the time we had been there for over an hour we had received only one round of drinks and no food.
In fairness to the restaurant, we dined there prior to attending one of the first Fenway concerts post pandemic. Felt like the staffing level was way off for the number of guests dining. We arrived early in the evening, drink orders arrived fairly quickly, small plate apps took a while and were tasty. Ordered two pizzas when we placed our app order and after 90 mins were still waiting on the pizzas but now up against the start of the show. It was obvious other guests were experiencing the same delays. Requested the bill (had the pizzas removed) and got to the show in time. We'll give them another try as the ambiance and location are nice and hopefully next time the service will be improved.
Unfortunately, our server was terrible at communicating. He didn’t greet us. All of the party had been served dinner before my order was even placed. The manager was also very slow when we brought these errors to her attention. My delicious burger pizza ALMOST made up for the poor hospitality. I’m so disappointed, as Sonsie used to be my favorite Newbury Street place to meet friends for cocktails.
Pre-dinner drinks were solid and the food was equally enjoyable. Loved the open front wall onto Newbury St. allowing for fresh air.
The kitchen was a little behind for what ever reason which stretched out our wait time but in the grand scheme of things great night out.
Wonderful venue on Newbury St.. The pizza was one of the best that I have ever tasted. A very fun and vibrant restaurant.
Amazing food. Came out quickly and with no issues. Loved the atmosphere and enjoyed the experience overall.
Good service. Nice atmosphere although music too loud. Menu ok but slightly limited
It was an amazing place. I arrived to my reservation late and was promptly seated.
The food was incredible and the place is both solicitous and meticulous.
Server & waitstaff we’re excellent. Food was delicious.
The host who walked us to our table a little lackluster. I’m not sure if asking for a different table annoyed him.
Great food and drinks! The atmosphere is great for any occasion
It was absolutely amazing
The portions are not that big, my medium rare steak was not even close to medium rare and wasn’t hot when it arrived. A bit disappointed, it was a special occasion / my idea to come here and I apologized to my family 2-3x. I was here 10-15 years ago and it was my favorite Boston restaurant then….
Fun place but loud
Prefer to sit outside or near windows
It was wonderful! Very good brunch
