Love this restaurant excellent food. Excellent staff.
Great brunch options, attentive staff and great people watching sitting at an outdoor table on the sidewalk.
Excellent Brunch! Highly recommend!
Sonsie is a go-to place for my wife and me when we visit our daughter. The only part of our food that was a little disappointing was the kale salad: it was half kale, and it didn’t have much taste. The rest we had on this visit was really good: the hummus, a burger, a pizza and the cioppino. The place was packed and the volume levels were pretty high.
The food was good. The servers were nice but overwhelmed. It is a loud, happening kind of restaurant which some might enjoy but was too much for our group.
Corn Fritters lacked flavor….ditto for Halibut. Disappointed for that price point . Pizza was good.
Sonsie is a perfect place for a fall brunch in Back Bay. Though the midday was still crisp, sitting in the threshold of the opening onto the sidewalk of Newbury Street was pleasant, thanks to just the right amount of warmth from the sun and heaters placed at the front of the dining room. The meal consisted of Salmon Benedict served with breakfast potatoes, and Lingucia Hash topped by two poached eggs and served with dipping toast. Both were delicious! Rafael, our server, was very attentive to our needs, keeping the Nitro Cold Brews coming!
Very sub-par dining experience. First I ordered the halibut, and was disappointed to hear they were out of it. Instead I ordered the bucatini. Upon my first bite I tasted salt overpowering the dish- way too salty and spicy from the red pepper to even bother taking more bites. I sent it back. The waiter was nice enough to accommodate me ordering a replacement dish. I decided to keep it simple and order a shrimp Ceasar. Surprise - they were out of something else, the shrimp! After all this, i ended up ordering the simplest thing on the menu, a chicken ceasar salad. As someone who saves dining out for a special treat - Sonsie did not deliver. They really need to reassess their inventory from the seafood market - no halibut or shrimp? I wont be returning.
Very slow service.
The drink menu was a little lacking but the food was great.
Good food and great drinks. Perfect sunday brunch that's not too expensive
Service was pretty brutal, food mediocre and overpriced
Great location for having brunch outside. Easy to walk to.
We were in town for Marathon Weekend and to catch a Red Sox playoff game. Sonsie’s has been on my “want to visit” list since watching the movie Fever Pitch (which I re-watch before every baseball season starts). This year we were finally made it work to have brunch here and it was worth the wait. The bright orange umbrellas promoting Aperol did their job because I started off ordering a refreshing Aperol Spritz. My dining partner had an Irish Coffee. For me brunch means Benedict and I had the Tomato Avocado one while my husband chose the Smoked Salmon one. When our dishes came we switched them out so we ended up with one of each! The dish was also served with roasted baby potatoes with onions. The eggs were poached perfectly (which to me makes or breaks an Eggs Benedict). The hollandaise sauce was not too thin nor not thick - it was Goldilock’s perfect! Our waiter Eduardo was amazing from start to finish as he was very attentive making sure we had what we needed and checked on us frequently. Sonsie’s is a do-over for sure and plan to try it again for lunch or dinner on the next trip to the city.
Had a great waitress who did very well with accommodating us! I work in a pizza shop so I’m picky on pizza and the pizza was actually incredibly good. Great experience.
Great food, service, cocktails, and people watching
It was a great experience with wonderful food and people watching ambiance.
Nice ambience. Decent service but food less than desirable. Not worth it.
Colin was fantastic!
blond Waitress brought wrong cocktail and never returned with the correct one until the meal was over. No lighting outside by our table; poor ambience and dark. motorcycles on street very loud!
Best aperol spritz! Our waiter was attentive.
Waiter took forever but food was great
Our waitress was so lovely and kind! She took great care of us. The mimosas, bloody Mary’s, and brunch were all delectable.
Loved brunch. Wish they had a few more umbrellas.
Waiter Colin was so good! Drinks and food were delicious.
The reason I didn't love the service is because the hostess was so so so unfriendly. It was very off putting. Even asking where the ladies room was she rolled her eyes and pointed, didn't even speak. Sadly it kinda over shadows the positive.
The food was delicious! We had steak, which was cooked perfectly and very tender, as well as octopus. The octopus appetizer was wonderful, and I'd recommend it. Also, order the 'Dana' martini - it's a twist on a lemon drop that you just have to try!
It was delicious!!! But a little dark and noise! The service it was very good
Dirty and cracked glassware, no plates or utensils provided
Cute spot for brunch meeting. I’ve been here 3 times and the food is always good, but nothing novel. The servers appeared to be stressed out and our glasses had red pepper flakes stuck to the inside. Parties of 3 seem to only get put at high tops which feels crowded - if you’re against the wall you have to ask someone at your party or the party next to you to move to get out because their chairs are practically touching. My party was just looking for a place to eat and chat so we were perfectly happy waiting for our drinks and food, but I wouldn’t come here expecting a fine dining experience.
I found the seating to be a bit strange in the front of the restaurant with the chairs for a table for two facing diagonally toward one another. Just a little…different.
Food is incredibly rich. Noise level doesn’t allow for easy conversation but overall great ambience
Sonsie was a disappointment from start to finish. Started off with no clean martini classes, bar tender forgot olives. You think all glassware would be clean when the restaurant was not full at 8pm on a Saturday night. Once we were seated at our table, we had to ask for a server to come by, we had to ask our server to place our order, to bring refills of martinis, never brought water, then we had to flag someone down to take away our appetizer plates, and then had to ask for the bill. I spent the whole night asking and reminding our server when to do their job. Besides actually cook the food and carry it out, I was responsible for the whole meal. Disappointing to say the least at the price point.
Sonsie is a restaurant on Newberry Street that has an amazing outdoor patio. Unfortunately, the food was average. While the wait staff was slow to service us and ask how our meal was, the general manager sensed the lackluster service and tried to make the rounds with people dining at the restaurant. While we appreciate this, the food can definitely be improved upon. Unfortunately, there are many other better choices to dine at in the Back Bay.
Been here many times will never go again. Slow service. They only brought out 3 of 4 dinners and we waited 20 minutes for 4th. Then I had to go inside and ask and waitress ame out and apologized and said she would get the 4th meal. Then came back 20 minutes later to say sorry we won't be getting the 4th meal but we will comp it for you. I had to explain you aren't comping using you didn't bring it. Then we waited 30 minutes for bill and they had no adjustments so we asked for manager and she blamed it all on the new waitress and the pizza chef who can't keep up. Took no responsibility and said she would comp the pizza. I again had to explain that you aren't comping us for something we ordered and you didn't serve. She finally took $30 in drinks off the tab 2.5 hours for dinner on a Friday night when the restaurant was half empty
Food was very tasty… pizza and burrata with peaches. But service was less than satisfactory. While I understand there are staffing concerns everywhere, our waiter brought out all food at once, rather than 1st and 2nd courses, so we had too many dishes on table, did not return for additional service such as refilling water glasses or providing condiments, and never asked us if we wanted dessert, coffee, etc. We ended up going elsewhere for dessert. Disappointing indeed.
Despite the nice location, we had a lot of issues at Sonsie. Service took a long time (which is understandable since they were very understaffed), and the food was subpar, especially for the price. We ordered a pizza that had clearly been reheated, and it tasted like they had poured olive oil over it, which was strange. Overall it wasn't a pleasant experience.
While our order was lost, the service team did a great job keeping us informed of the mix-up. Their attitude made a bad situation a whole lot better!
Had a great experience at Sonsie catching up with a friend. Victoria, our server, was absolutely wonderful and very attentive. Will definitely be coming back soon!
It was like a club vibe and the brunch menu was very limited! Felt like the restaurant was dirty. Most likely won’t be going back.
Some of the worst service I’ve ever experienced. Then I asked for the manager who couldn’t have been less sympathetic or helpful. Do yourself a favor and avoid this place.
The table was very unsteady and they tried to stabilize it.
They should have seated us at another table.
When I called to say we were running late the maitre’d acted like it was a big deal, when we got there the restaurant was empty. We had an early reservation pre Red Sox game, if she had said take your time I would not have raced down Newbury Street in 90 degree weather!
