Sonsie - Boston
Need to book at 10:15 AM?Other great restaurants with availability.
The food was overpriced for the quality. Very rich, almost congealed with butter.
The server was somewhat confused and inattentive. Would not go back for dinner. Brunch perhaps?
Was a shame to come back - we’d moved away over a dozen years ago and were back in town for a quick treat with our son - sharing some favorite old spots. While the place was as charming as ever and our server was lovely, there were some long unexplained waits (while folks all around us who arrived quite a bit later were served), and when our food arrived it was cold and not up to the standard we’d expect for the price. A disappointment.
Everything was great, and have been coming here for years. We were seated in the dinning room and food was great as per usual along with timeliness being on point. I’ve never failed to recommend Sonsie, but our waitress was prioritizing tables with a possible higher tip and forgot about us rather quickly despite us having a typical bill between the two of us. It was quite disappointing because it was the first time we’ve experienced this low of service here.
Very dark in the restaurant and hard to read menu but overall great
Too loud. It was impossible to have a conversation with your table.
I will preface this by saying this is a Valentine’s Day review so that’s a whole other ballgame compared to a usual evening at Sonsie. Overall the food was great, our server was nice, but the service itself was a mess. We were sat without napkins or utensils. When food came, we asked for share plates, napkins and utensils. Someone brought us plates but no napkins or utensils so we had to ask again. Our server was nice but Valentine’s is not the day to go out. Someone else started clearing candles from tables while we were eating. Ok clear them from empty tables but not where guests are still sitting! It felt like we were being kicked out. The food was good, but the overall feeling was chaotic. By the time we were paying an hour after we sat down, they were clearing tablecloths from tables next to us and it all felt very rushed. I would come here for drinks and apps but probably not for a special occasion again.
Sonsie is consistent and has a great location. They sort of "pack them in" on Valentine' s day but it was still a nice dinner. Pricing is reasonable for Boston mid-range, and while the menu seemed to be a little less adventurous than previous visits, the food was well-prepared and presented. Less memorable than previous visits, but no hesitation in recommending Sonsie to friends looking for a nice dinner in the city.
I went on Valentine's Day and I loved the atmosphere and the seating. The distance between customers was perfect and the lighting was outstanding and I loved what the place looked like. However, I had a wobbly table (and apparently other people did too), that was slow to be fixed. The waiter said it was taken care of but nobody came to fix it until I asked again. There were also a number of other issues like forgetting to bring out silverware and bringing me the wrong receipt. That being said, the food was outstanding (drinks and dinner was some of the best I've ever had). The portions are slightly small but still decent size and much to enjoy. I had the apple crisp for dessert (which really wasn't an apple crisp) and it was really dry and powdery and unenjoyable. Overall, it's a pretty nice place with decent food for the price but not the best.
The food was amazing. We all ordered different things and were all extremely happy with our choices. Quick service but not rushed.
Waitress was great. Braised meatballs were good and the French onion and oxtail soup was great. Ceasar salad was so so. Nothing special about it. Prosciutto and fig pizza was way too salty. Almost impossible to eat. White chocolate cheesecake was great.
Restaurant itself was very dark. Tables very close to each other.
The environment and service at Sonsie were excellent; our waitress was kind and responsive and made us feel very comfortable.
The food, however, was just so-so. Our dishes were over-sauced and the meat (I had the pot roast) was extremely fatty. It was definitely overpriced for the quality.
Wonderful place right in the heart of it
Fantastic food and very enjoyable atmosphere with lively yet appropriate music for a memorable dining experience.
Our family had a terrific experience at Sonsie over the weekend celebrating our daughter's 16th birthday. The food and drinks were delicious, but even more remarkable than that, we had the most wonderful waitress. She was so attentive and friendly and provided excellent service. We were very pleased that we chose Sonsie to celebrate our special event.
Fantastic place to eat for a date or family without spending too much money!
Met a college friend for dinner and wanted to catch up on the last 10 years - need a quiet table and not to be rushed. We were seated in a corner of the main dining room and it wasn’t busy at all (Tuesday night). Our server was attentive and recognized our intent. We started with oyster shooters, highly recommended and moved straight into the entrees. The food was excellent, ambience perfect and I hope to return in the near future!
Fantastic experience here. Highly recommend.
We’ve been to Sonsie before and this was the first revisit with baby! The greeter was able to seat us at a comfortable both nearer to back since we had our baby car seat 👍🏽 Our server was very chill and informed on the menu. We enjoyed the meal though it did take a while to come out 🙃 All in all a nice spot on Sunday afternoon. Thank you
Really cute place for brunch! Sat in the cafe area which was a little more casual and got eggs benedict and the cold brew irish coffee which was delicious!
A quick escape away from the hub bub of an annual meeting and trade show at the Hynes Convention Center was a perfect lunch at Sonsie. I had the frisee salad with crispy, flavorful bacon, and a poached egg on top. We were seated at the back, which didn't have the street activity view but was peaceful and appropriate for conversation. I still love Sonsie, after all these years.
The food was excellent. The staff was terrific. I would go back in a minute. At night the the bar can be a little noisy but not too bad.
Had a great time getting together with family from across the city. Our waitress was very pleasant and didn’t rush us when one member was late to arrive. However, we did feel pressured to leave once we paid the bill (which is understandable) but there were empty tables near us which made it a bit off-putting.
The hosts were very warm and welcoming! I really enjoyed sitting in the cafe area, it was lovely and pretty quiet. The atmosphere to this restaurant is overall very warm, nice but not too formal.
My server, Maya, was incredibly nice and wonderful, very attentive and I never had to wait long for anything.
I had the salmon, which was incredibly delicious, with very crispy skin, and the lemon sauce was great.
For dessert I had the raspberry sorbet, which was a bit grainy, but tart and fruity. I also had some hot chocolate which was rich and dark.
Overall, a really nice meal! Definitely recommend coming here, and I will definitely be back.
Experience was a bit disappointing. I made reservations to celebrate my brothers birthday and left a note with the reservations to make sure we did something to celebrate. This did not happen. Some of the food that was ordered was delicious, others were mediocre. All in all, I regretted selecting this restaurant
The two other people in my party got to the restaurant before me and were sat at the table. When I went in and gave my name, the host told me to go look around for my group. I asked if he could direct me to where the table was, as it was a busy, dark restaurant and he said no, he couldn’t and told me again to go look around to find them. Very poor customer service.
It was really dark inside, so hard to read the menu. I would have preferred a seat at the front where there was more sunlight.
Great food, drink and service, but head-splittingly LOUD!!!
It was on the pricey side. Service was good and the food was average
Lovely place for a late-night, post work meal with friends. The place was relatively empty, allowing us seating near the beautiful windows at the front of the restaurant. Our waitress quickly got our drink and then food order. I highly recommend the fig and prosciutto pizza!
In from out of town and was happy my wife and I found our way in for lunch. The white clam pizza is everything. Raw bar was outstanding. High fives to your team!
New England Pot Roast was out of this world! Service was very good.
I loved the location of this restaurant because it was not around a lot of commotion. I loved the small vibe of this place. The food was delicious and the ouster’s were to die for. I got the white cranberry sangria and it was so good. Absolutely recommend this place. Only thing was it got very loud but it was NYE.
Service was good, food was good but if you plan on having a conversation over the meal -prepare to lose your voice from yelling for an hour.
Seating was great. Quaint table right in the large windows street-side. Service was great and food was fantastic. Great ambiance and atmosphere. Noise level was fine. Highly recommend!
My husband had to send back his pork it was undercooked. My son didn’t like his margarita pizza. My other son didn’t even eat the Thai spice noodles they weren’t good. My salmon was delicious. There Were things floating in my sons cocktail. We sent it back. Service was fine
Our server acted like she was doing us a huge favour by waiting on us. She was angry that we said the wine wasn’t chilled enough, so she brought us an ice bucket and we had to pour our own wine after that.
The food was good, but we asked for bread and she brought us a basket of stale rolls.
I definitely wouldn’t recommend this restaurant to anyone. There are so many excellent places to eat in Boston. This isn’t one of them!
I have really enjoyed Sonsie in the past. I met friends there for brunch and our server was friendly and helpful. Everything started well until the food arrived and one friend's quiche was burned and had to be sent back. Okay, it happens . . . and the quiche was returned to the kitchen quickly. But then it came back, and we realized the most burned crust was simply cut off the same piece of quiche and returned to my friend. But the real problem was with my other friend's eggs benedict. The English muffin was so hard that it could not be cut with a knife and fork. It was also returned and basically never replaced until we inquired what was going on. Finally about 25 minutes later, she got a new meal with a new english muffin that wasn't tough as a brick. But everyone else was already finished eating. Not a great experience overall.
Good food and service. Diverse menu. It was loud hard to hear conversation at our table
Brunch with the family and everyone was happy from my vegan to the carnivore to the espresso martini girls....nothing like the legacy of family and Sonsie...never disappoints. service with a smile is the best
