Sonsie - Boston
Early X-Mas dinner before leaving each other till end of January
The burger pizza is my favorite!
Had such a nice time here! Great service, food, and lighting was perfect for basic food pic taking!!
I have always loved going to Sonsie and often recommend it to friends from out of town. However the service I received on my most recent visit was enough to make me not want to return. I had to ask several wait staff to find our waitress since she never checked in with us. Our appetizer took way too long to come out. I also had to ask for bread in the meantime since it was not offered or provided. And as expected, no more than 5 minutes after our appetizer came out, our entrees were also brought over. I explained my frustration but it was not addressed by any management staff. Our waitress did not even come over after our food was dropped off to ask how the meals were. Needless to say, I am not sure if I will be returning or recommending to anyone in the future.
Excellent food and service and a fun atmosphere. The pot roast - made with braised short ribs - was delicious.
I made a reservation but when I got there they did not have a table. This was disappointing as I had to sit by the door and it was a cold night. The wine we ordered wasn't very good (single glass). The food was ok.
The Kelly Reemsten paintings on the wall of the dining room alone are worth the visit.
Love everything about this place. Have eaten there multiple times over the last few years and it is always excellent.
GreAt for intimate meals
Fantastic Thanksgiving Eve dinner.
Amazing food and we loved our waitress! I got the pumpkin spice french toast which was amazing! My friends got the sweet potato corn beef has with poached eggs and the quiche which were also both amazing! Our server was really nice and funny too. Definitely recommend for brunch!
The service was AMAZING. Ordered the black squid pasta and the calamari wasn’t cooked correctly and it was pretty fishy. But our waitress was extremely helpful and ordered me something else right away. Definitely would go back to try their salads or burger!
This place should be called SALTie. It was as if they just dumped the whole container of salt onto every dish. Wait staff was inattentive. Food was incredibly mediocre.
I know it's supposed to be THE place to go, but as my first time there, it will probably be my last. Service was great, attentive, personable, but my food was lackluster to say the least. The spicy chicken sandwich, while it did have a little heat to it, was over breaded, and overcooked, and a little dry. The fries were bits and pieces and were difficult to pick up with my fingers, or even a fork.
Sorry, not sorry, but Sonsie is a bit over rated. I'm sure some people love it, and I hope they continue to! Just not me or my guests...
It was great, we showed up and the host seated us right away. The food was delicious, we both loved our meals. Only downside - we ordered a $45 aperol spritz pitcher and it only poured about 3.5 drinks, but the price of an individual glass is $10
Delightful all around. Food and adult beverages were fantastic. Our server, Chris, was the best ever. All around excellence and he personally stuffed my olives w/ blue cheese which really made my night.
Oysters were okay. Select Oyster Bar was much better. The Asian dish I had (can’t remember the name) was inedible. I like spicy but this was over the top! The restaurant itself is nice as was our waitress. If you go, play it safe and order one of their pizzas.
Very small lunch menu. The food was very simple (no match for Sonsie) and of very poor quality. The service was extremely inattentive (errors with plates delivered, cold coffee, lack of attention). Would not recommend to anyone (used to be one of my favorites for dinner)
Sonsie was a great place to eat with friends. It is a little expensive but normal for Boston prices. Good food, but nothing that you could not find at other places. The service was really good, and I loved the place. Unlike most places in Boston it was wide and spacious!
We do brunch here a few times a year and it never disappoints. We all have our favorites but it's still hard to choose because everything is good. I had the breakfast sandwich which was delicious -- don't be frightened off by the jalapeno biscuit, it's great. My husband had eggs with sausage, two in our party had the huevos rancheros and our last diner had the avocado toast. All were plentiful and tasty! The service is good, the location is great for a post-brunch stroll, and it's easy to make a reservation. My only negatives would be that it's a little pricey -- they used to have $5 mimosas but those were gone this time -- and it is a little loud. But really a great spot for my husband and I to meet up with our adult children every few months!
Came on for Sunday brunch at 1130.
Front half if restaurant was freezing and smelled of bleach.
Lost my appetite.
I am a repeat customer from out of town. Sonsie is a great place to dine with family and friends, and I wouldn't hesitate to take a customer there on business.
Great vibe . Great service and food
It was exceptional! Staff and atmosphere were excellent and food and drinks were superb.
Bartender changed the amount on tip! 😡😡
My review is for the weekend brunch at Sonsie. The food is comparable to that being served at a "diner"; but not the typical diner with a large selection of menu items. The selected menu items: spinach frittata and eggs benedict were just "ok". There are several better options along Newberry Street. Like Stephanie's on Newberry, this restaurant is overdue for an upgrade on their food and service.
Great spot on Newbury. Have been here for breakfast, lunch and dinner, and have never been disappointed. Awesome atmosphere and food.
Great dinner to have with an old friend I hadn’t seen in a while. Had to wait a few minutes after my imposed reservation time for the table I’d requested but it was fine, a server brought us glasses of water while we waiting which was a nice gesture.
The place needs to be renovated!!!! It’s been way too long. dumpy kind of!
Second visit in a couple of days. Still nice restaurant, not crowded on a Sunday evening, service was poor, food mediocre.
Sonsie was the recommendation of a friend for brunch in Boston. It's a great space with literally a window onto Newbury which opens onto the street and is genuinely a treat especially on a sunny, bright and clear day in the city. The restuarant is a busy space with a friendly bright greeting staff, a relaxing and attentive bar and staff which never leaves you wanting for a cocktail. With reservations you're seated pretty quickly although the tables can be somewhat tight especially in the restaurant's rear area. The menu selection is impressive and the food a matching delight. The table wait staff was a little off the rest of the experience where we waited a good 20-30 minutes before seeing the waitress a second time offering drinks. Although the initial wait was long once we ordered the speed of the food delivery was exceptional including, the food arrived at the table hot and overall the dining experience was borderline good to exceptional. I'd definitely try it a second time just for my own clarity but, it's not at the top of the list.
My friend and I live in Backbay and this has been my go to spot for years. We went for a late dinner yesterday and had a rocky start with the hostess who for some reason didn’t want to seat us. After talking to the manager, we ended up having a lovely time. Our server, Aleena, was just amazing and her food recommendations were perfect. The food, as always, hit the spot. What started out as a bad experience was remedied quickly and I must say that I was impressed and relieved because I love this place and always recommend it to my friends. Great food and great servers!!!
Jessica was very attentive and pleasant. Our food was delicious and we thoroughly enjoyed our visit.
Nice restaurant, crowded on a friday night, service was good with well balanced timing and nice waitress.
If one doesn't mind eating in a very noisy place with the distraction of televisions over the bar, this is a fine choice with good food and drinks.
Went here for dinner. Our server was great. Probably the best thing about our experience here. The ambience was nice, more a date place for dinner. Although, it was pretty noisy and hard to hear the person across from me The food was not great and our food took some time to come out. We split the white bean dip, which was good. Then I had the french onion, oxtail soup, which was not that great. Very, very salty for my taste. I also had the grilled pork tenderloins. The pork meat was ok, but it was not much for what you pay for, and the sides were not great. The other person had the sausage pizza which too a long time to come out and was nothing great. Overall, for what you pay for, none of the food was worth it in my perspective. This place is probably better for brunch.
Great service, food and atmosphere! We were visiting and we were all so glad we found this gem!
Our dinner experience here was hampered by the ineptness or lack of caring of our waiter. We had ordered drinks initially and they came without delay. However upon ordering out food it wasn't the same experience. We had ordered oysters as an appetizer, then an onion soup and salads followed by an entrees. Keep in mind that we sat down at 5:30 on a Sunday evening so the restaurant was 1/3-full. It took 20 mins. before the oysters arrived along with the soup and salads. When he served the food he began to rush off and I quickly asked, "can I have a new drink from the bar". He asked what I wanted and I asked what the seasonal Sam Adams was. To that he replied, "I believe it is Fall" to which I was internally questioning what that was. I discounted his answer and assumed it would be an ale or Oktoberfest which I would like so I ordered one. Within a minute later our entrees arrived (two minutes after our soup and salads) along with my beer which he then announced it was actually Oktoberfest. Again he was about to rush off when my wife had to interrupt his departure to request another wine. Without asking my daughter if she would like anything, which she did, he rushed off again. It wasn't until he returned with the wine was my daughter able to get her drink order in. While I know this isn't a 5-star restaurant they should invest in some basic training of staff.
The food here was okay but expected better for the price. Steak was cooked well but side dishes were too salty and that’s always bad. The restaurant was very noisy and made having a conversation with more than one person very difficult. Even though we had a reservation we were placed in a cramped and uncomfortable table. The service was pretty good so that’s a bright spot.
I have eaten at Sonsie before but this time it disappointed in every arena. The service was erratic and sloppy. The four person dinner was served at completely different times. And the food was mediocre to poor with one large salad (served as a main) dressed and cheesed so heavily it was ineatable. I cannot imagine choosing to eat there again.
