Sonsie - Boston
We were there, with friends from the Cape, for my wife’s birthday. The waitress, Denise, was very knowledgable about the menu and attentive.
The food was of a high quality and we particularly enjoyed the Oyster shooters; which brought tears to our eyes!
All in all a very enjoyable experience, and would thoroughly recommend to anyone visiting Boston. We will certainly try and visit again when we are next over there.
The food was pretty good, but, the whole time, it felt like our waitress was rushing my friend and I to finish our food when the restaurant was practically empty. When I finished my food and my friend was taking her time with hers, our waitress came by the table every two minutes asking “May I take the plate away?”, consistently interrupting our conversation just to take away the plate my friend WAS NOT finished with.
Had dinner here with a friend on a nice evening. Food was good and server was helpful when she was around. It felt like multiple requests had to be made multiple times because we were just waiting and waiting. That was the only downside to an otherwise pleasant meal.
Very disappointed in the food. I use to come here all the time but the frittata was the worst frittata I ever had and so bland. Nothing like the way they use to make it. And the sweet potato hash was burned
This was our second visit to Sonsie. The first time, we just happened on it, and got a table. The second time we wanted to go, we realized we should have made a reservation. This time, I used OpenTable and we had a fabulous brunch. I especially appreciate a bountiful selection of gluten free items. I had a delicious frittata with a side of bacon cooked to perfection. That is a big deal to me, because so many places serve flimsy bacon! Love, love Sonsie and will most definitely return!
It’s much too loud to go for dinner. I went with a group of 6 at 7pm on a Friday and could not hear half of what my friends were saying. However, I have heard only great things about brunch. Maybe it’s less loud at brunch. The food was okay. Service was great!
Had the meatballs and the asparagus salad - delish! Not too heavy but full of flavor. Great spot to hang and just enjoy an afternoon or evening
Went for brunch. The chowder, avocado toast and lox bagel were great. The corned beef and sweet potato hash was not good. Great atmosphere. Servers rushed us a bit.
Really good food, but the restaurant was SO noisy we had trouble hearing each other, even though we were at a corner table. It was also a beautiful day but the restaurant is extremely dark, even though the restaurant was open to the street. Service was outstanding, but if you want a dinner with conversation, I would find another restaurant
Great service at Sonsie! This was my first visit for brunch on a day other than Sunday. It was excellent as we included the meal with the Espresso Martinis! Amazing!
Food was good. We had the brick oven pizza which actually was very good, and a salad with goat cheese in it, very good. I had a glass of Pinot Grigio, very expensive, $11 for 6 ounces of wine. The setting was nice, but it was very loud. Overall was good, would’ve been better if it was quieter .
I have been to Sonsie in the past and had a positive opinion of this restaurant so I didn't hesitate to go there again last evening. I was, however, very disappointed. It wasn't busy yet it took the wait staff over 10 minutes to bring us water, never mind a menu, etc. We decided to each order a pizza (personal size) and mine was mediocre at best. I elected to go with the fig, prosciutto and arugula selection and was advised they were out of figs..... I went with it anyway which was a mistake. There was very little tomato sauce on it, it was overcooked and dry. My guest said his pizza was "fine" but I think he was being kind. Won't be going back there again any time soon.
To say I was disappointed is an understatement! This was a recommended stop in Boston that we should have SKIPPED!! Service was abysmal and the food was marginal!! Caesar Salad was SOAKED in dressing...Lobster Roll was watery....the bread was good! Would suggest they fix their service and hire a decent chief!
The pork tenderloin was cooked just right, and the mushrooms and fava beans on the side were so delicious! My friend also enjoyed her burger a lot. I'll definitely come back some time soon to try their brunch menu.
Ok not great.
It was great!
Wonderful experience both at the bar and at our table once seated.
We ordered the chicken. It was all legs and a lot of bones. Very hard to eat and not much meat. We usually like Sonsi's, I just think we made the wrong choice for entree.
Will try again....wont' get the chicken!!
This was a great place to celebrate a special occasion with a few family members
First time dining at Sonsie. Server was excellent and the was food was very good, though I had to send mine back, they topped my stuffed French toasts with crushed peanuts that wasn’t in the meal description and that I didn’t want. Second plate looked fresher and more appetizing than the first. The four of us all enjoyed our meals. Ambiance is dark red walls and they could use a fresh coat of paint. Artwork is a bit strange, women in fancy dresses pictured from the neck down holding large tools. AC was on and they opened the front which let more cool air in, had to put my raincoat on to stay comfortable. Carpet leading to basement rest rooms is in need of replacing. Rest room needs better lighting. We were celebrating a birthday and the server brought us four complimentary espresso shots which were amazing! Overall we enjoyed the brunch and will likely return, with a sweater.
Perfect place to celebrate! Wonderful dinner, great service by Cindy, fantastic dessert. Highly recommend!
Graduation! Every time, we come back to Boston we have to go to Sonsie!! Great food! Our waitress was amazing! Love it!! Thanks!!
Nice to sit by the street with the doors open...but loud (it was a Friday night)
Had the steak frites. Over cooked. Tough meat. Service was fine!
First time coming for brunch- 3 of 4 meals came out super fast, toast was too hard to eat, felt like we got another table’s food. They did bring a donut to the 4th in our party as their food wasn’t ready. May have been an off day I will go back because I’ve been before for dinner and that was great
Great! Open to street, good food, good fun
Wonderful brunch with my daughter! We celebrated mom day and birthday! Server was fabulous!
Always love to go to sonsies! Always consistent with food etc!👱♀️
If you like noisy and busy, then you will enjoy brunch at Sonsie because it is a very lively place. It is not the place for an in-depth catch-up chat. The frittata was good but looked quite forlorn on the plate with no leafy pile, fruit huddle, or potato to keep it company. I'm average height and slim, but I was quite hungry after. And so was my friend who normally eats half what I do.
They had a long delay to bring out the food but the service was really good and they seemed to be having a problem in the kitchen. The manager came out and introduced himself and said the whole meal was covered! Food was great, service was amazing, timing was bad but they made up for it!
We had an awesome lunch there! Will definitely return on our next trip to Boston!
Nice spot. Big menu and good service made this a great way to say goodbye to Boston after a break there. Lobster roll not as good as the carpaccio. Mushroom soup good. Bread good and house blend wine good.
The brunch menu at sonsie is not bad, but it is nothing to write home about. Out of everything we ordered the Salad we got was the most delicious, very fresh and all the flavors complimented each other very well; However, as someone who doesn't mind noise, I found this place EXTREMELY loud. There was no space between the tables and I don't know why the place was filled considering the rest of the food we ordered was very good, but not so exceptional that you'd be willing to pack yourself in like a sardine.
Our server was great, love the was everyone works together as a team. Brunch is always great here. This was my second time here and won’t be my last.😊
Wonderful location and great ambiance, but extremely loud at 1:15pm on a Sunday. They were also out of two of their brunch dishes by that time, although the server was kind in explaining this and did her best to accommodate us given that the kitchen was out of both dishes. Maybe it was just an especially busy day for them, but disappointing nonetheless. The cocktails we ordered, especially the Persian Punch, were extremely weak and not worth the price.
The food runner brought an incorrect dish to our table and the presentation of all dishes was rather sloppy. Food was just okay, nothing to write home about. I might come back to try some different drinks or take a look at their wine selection, but the food nor the cocktails were worth what we paid for them. I’m not really interested in finding out if their dinner menu is any better.
Seemed like the staff had us with a waitress that was in the back - we were in the front. hard for her to keep coming to us.
Good overall experience. Pretty noisy when full. The Lobster spring rolls were great. Also very good cocktails.
Good food and delicious cocktails! It was a bit cramped for Saturday at brunch but that seems normal. Good service and nice place.
This was certainly not our first time at Sonsie but it was one of our best. We typically snack and sip in the bar area, but this time we decided to dine at a table. The hostess was kind and accommodating (we arrived early and opted for a drink at the bar before sitting) and our waitress was just as sweet. The food was good although my boyfriend's meal looked a little small and I learned that my favorite menu item was no longer offered. Still, we look forward to going back.
Great atmosphere, lovely server and good food. I had a gluten free pizza base, so good to have a homemade one instead of a processed one.
Just a bit over priced but we had a great experience.
