We had been to Sonoma when it was in Princeton. This was our first time in Worcester. We were disappointed. One entre was very good, the other fair. The service level was just not up to what one would expect from an upscale restaurant.

Not up to the old Sonoma in Princeton. Ambiance a little less intimate. Deleted a couple of menu items (escargot and Korean short ribs) that were worth going out of the way for. Service okay but a little less attentive. One positive is the guitar music on certain nights.

Pure class. This was my first time at the Worcester location and the renovations were upscale. The food and service was impeccable, so no change there. Foodie heaven. This is an elegant dining experience not for small children or boisterously sports bar types, there are plenty of other venues that suit those diners. Seems almost everywhere has been “casualed down”. Thank Sonoma for a superb dining experience. Quality standards.

I can't recommend the restaurant for things I did not experience (e.g., happy hour, afternoon tea, etc.) but I can recommend it for two excellent dinners, and an ambience conducive to quiet (private) conversation. We both ordered the sweet potato soup which was not a menu item but a "special." It was very tasty. We also both ordered the garden salad. It was artistically presented and all its ingredients were delightfully fresh. For entrees I ordered the duck and my companion ordered the evening's special, tuna. Our accompaniments complemented the entrees. I didn't order dessert but my dining companion had the brulee. We agreed that the meals were extra-ordinary. The restaurant is a bit pricey for Worcester so I wouldn't eat there weekly, but it is the Worcester restaurant to go to for a special occasion. I should say that I had been several times to their Princeton location so I was not totally surprised by either the quality of the food or the slightly higher than Worcester cost.

Sonoma offered interesting selections that were excellent. The restaurant though was pricy, relative to the food and location.

No idea why this restaurant would have these good reviews. We found the lunch menu boring featuring totally average, standard fare. The staff was junior with a "I don't care, I only work here"-attitude. The food was surprisingly well done, with fresh veggies and salmon that was cooked perfectly. Unfortunately, even the good food could not make up for the uninspired food choices and the lack of ambience.

I read the good reviews about this place several times and never went because I knew it was in a hotel. I accidentally booked it Saturday night and was extremely pleased with the food, the service, the live classical guitar. Deffinitely will return.

This was our first visit to the new site at the Beechwood Hotel. We have dined at Sonoma/Princeton many times, and, based on our pleasure with that location's dining experience, also held a 60th birthday party for 12 people at the Princeton site in the past. I should also add that it took us several attempts to get a reservation here so we were looking forward to our date. Sadly, we were disappointed this time. While the Beechwood location is beautiful, posh and expansive, the jewel of the restaurant--the food, was a disappointment. We had the chef's signature dish, something we had never tried before, and found it a bit lackluster. The veal sausage stuffing was flavorful, but the veal encasing it was not. Since two of us tried the dish, this is not a singular review. Another of us had a steak dish that missed the mark on requested preparedness. The typical accoutrements with which we were familiar accompanying the dishes, were missed, and the pre-meal starters were unusually dried out, like they had been sitting for a while. The wait staff was pleasant enough, but not compared to the individual attention known from previous experiences. New customers would typically be in awe of the experience, but overall, it will be difficult to justify our spending for another meal here. This, in and of itself, is our greatest disappointment as we could always count on a specially prepared meal of the highest quality at Sonoma.

We were celebrating my mother-in-laws birthday. We were a party of 5. We arrived about 1/2 hour early and had a drink in the lounge. We were never rushed and were actually seated a little after 6. The server was extremely attentive and constantly checked in with us to make sure everything was satisfactory. The food was very good and the service was excellent. There was some live acoustic music that added a nice touch. My mother-in-law turned 84 years old that evening, and she said it was one of the best birthdays that she could remember!

Miss the Princeton location. We finally tried the Sonoma in Worcester. Very disappointed. The magic that was Princeton was gone now as it is just another fancy restaurant in a hotel. The food was not on par with its older location. The intimacy of the surroundings was gone. Even the Worcester water tasted horribly. At least for an upscale restaurant they could have filtered it. The food was cold and my steak was partially medium rare, the rest was medium well. We won't be going back unfortunately. It was my wife's favorite restaurant until your move.

Very expensive but you didn't mind paying for it when it had some value, it does not now.

We were really pleased to see our favorite waitress, Jessica, was serving us. The ambiance is different no doubt and the gentleman at the table next to us was quite loud. Not something you normally hear at Sonoma’s. But that said the dinner was over the top as usual, and the service was the best. Dinner was no rush and settings were provided in a non rush, nor wait, just perfect pace.
I like the roominess of the new Resturant and the seating was perfect. We will be back!

We were concerned that it wouldn’t be the same as the Princeton site, but the familiar faces immediately made us feel at ease. The food was excellent as always, and was matched by the service. While the ambiance is different, it is still Sonoma.

Birthday celebration. Not very crowded, but it was a Tuesday night. Service was excellent. Lovely pacing, not intrusive but there when necessary. Food was excellent. I had the duck breast which was properly cooked and quite tender. My husband had the special braised lamb shank which he was very pleased with. Nice wine list. Great addition to the Worcester food scene.

Food was excellent but the service did not measure up to the quality of the food.
We asked for butter three times before it came.
We had a round of drinks before ordering. The maitre d came by as the drinks were being served and removed the menus although we had yet to make our choices.
I finished my drink as the appetizer was being served. I was not asked if I wanted a refill until I was midway through my entree.
We had coffee and dessert. On our table there was still the bread, butter and olive tapenade from earlier in dinner. No one had cleared these dishes
As a result, this place has a LONG way to go before it can be considered an outstanding restaurant.... the food is there but the service isn’t

Here's a really mixed review, and based entirely on a comparison with past experiences. First off, the food is wonderful. Secondly, the service was fine. Thirdly, the environment matches what would be expected from a fine restaurant. That being said, when I made the reservations, I fully expected to travel to Princeton, and only learned that they had moved to Worcester on the morning of the reservation. No big deal, and actually the drive was almost quicker for us. Because of the smaller footprint in Princeton, the ambiance was MUCH nicer, and the service seemed more personal. A single guitar playing tasteful music in Princeton was replace by piped in piano music. (Not loud or inappropriate, just not the same.) The Worcester venue is a large open restaurant which, at least on our evening, welcomed people to speak louder, thus sharing their jokes, experiences, etc. with all in the room. Is that Sonoma's fault? Of course not, but my point is that by moving to a larger facility they have lost the intimacy that attracted us to Sonoma in the first place. We will still keep Sonoma high on our list of special places to go, but I'm not sure they will be our "go to" place anymore.

Had to make reservations through Open Table but only spots left were at 3:30 weekend after Valentines Day). I expected the restaurant must be busy given the lack of availability. We live an hour away and made the drive because we had heard many great things about the restaurant. We arrived to find only one other couple there and staff seemed thrown off that we were even there. We then found out we would only be able to order off the lunch menu and not the dinner menu. Although our food was good, it was disappointing to not get the dinners we had been so looking forward to. Our sever had to be reminded by other staff to return to our table at one point, where she seemed to have disappeared. With no others in the restaurant at that time, it didn’t feel like she should be too busy to give basic service. It would have been helpful to have known when trying to reserve a table that only the lunch menu would be available. It also would have been nice to have better service and not be forgotten. Probably won’t be back anytime soon.

The menu is mediocre. Not very creative; almost old fashioned. Lots of seafood. It took a while to get our food. Most of our food was prepared nicely, but my husband's steak had to be returned twice because first it was overcooked, then it was under cooked. My swordfish was fresh, portion and flavors were good. The waiter forgot our side dish of Brussels sprouts, and after we asked about them he brought them after a while. They were under cooked for my liking. The desserts were uninspiring. It was very nice of them to comp the entire meal. Sonoma has a nice location and very good reputation. I hope they can make some improvements and live up to their name.

Sonoma, one of our longtime favorites, has moved from the town of Princeton some distance away from the city to the Beechwood Hotel in Worcester. It has had a distinguished background for many years and it has managed to keep its fine reputation in its new venue. The dining room is quite attractive and, by summer, patio dining will add to its appeal. The menu has continued to be outstanding as well and we were pleased with our choice of meals.

But I have to say that the service was awful. Inappropriate silverware for the meal (actually nothing appropriate for one of us--I had no knife at all), inability to get the attention of the waiter, and to top it off, after an enormous delay to get a waiter, they had to return my wife's meal to the kitchen to crack open the lobster claws as the restaurant has no tools available! We arrived around six on a Friday evening and the restaurant was not so full. At seven, when it was filling up, we had been served and the wait staff was not overloaded, yet they seemed not interested in helping us.
